>Hanwha Ocean competed for the program against defense companies from Spain, Singapore, and Türkiye. The company was selected as the preferred bidder on the strength of its experience successfully delivering the first frigate, HTMS Bhumibol Adulyadej, to the Royal Thai Navy in 2018, along with its accumulated naval shipbuilding expertise.

>Based on the OCEAN-40F frigate scale model on display at Defense & Security 2025 and on the new images released this week by Hanwha Ocean, the future Royal Thai Navy frigate looks to be fitted with the following sensors:

>TRS-4D radar
>SeaEagle FCRO
>SeaEagle FCEO-D
>ES-3601 R-ESM

>The frigate’s air defence is provided by a 16-cell vertical launch system equipped with MBDA’s VL MICA NG surface-to-air missiles, and two SIMBAD RC launchers (forward and aft) add additional close-range air defense capability. The weapons suite is rounded out by a 76mm main gun and two DS-30 Mk2 30mm remote weapon stations that serve dual purposes in both conventional surface warfare and emerging asymmetric threats.

This is mostly to maintain maritime superiority over Cambodia in the Gulf of Thailand for anyone wondering.

seems like a waste of money, they already had good military equipment for the region.

I'd agree but isn't their economy in the shitter and they have one of the worst birth rates in the region?

They're importing Burmese, who are basically genetically identical and practice and even more strict form of Buddhism. They'll be fine.

The navy seems kinda lacking compared to other branches.

They only have to worry about their Gulf and part of the Andaman and have no territorial disputes with anyone other than Cambodia.

Makes sense Cambodia is getting two Chinese Type 056C frigates

so why bother on making such an abomination if it had french weapons and not getting outright the greek version of the fdi?

kickbacks i'm guessing,

>>65496322
There nothing for them to contest in the gulf with Cambodia, it seems more like a military kickback. They are already going UNCLOS arbitration with the Cambodians starting this month. If Cambodia gets a favorable/neutral ruling they are just gonna sell extraction rights of the suspected hydrocarbons to Japan/China/USA. Like they ripped up their own MoU for no reason, which was favored to Thailand, that MoU stalled out because of the Thaksin coup.

Thai navy ships are purely political like how Indonesia buys fighter jets, a contrast on how their Chairforce operates

>Korean ships
>Chinese ships
>Singaporean ships
>US ships
>ex-Spanish carrier
>a ton of licensed Bong/Frog/Pasta ships made in Thailand

Only Singapore and Vietnam aren't retarded, they're all in on Gucci gear (Singapore) and slavshit + Israeli (Vietnam)

Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia are peak flipfloppers and are unreliable

>Malaysia
We have to. Recently our NSM was cancelled by Norgayy despite we have almost finished paying for it. Now we have to redesign our frigates to fit some other missille. We're suing Norgayy to get a refund plus damages. Everytime we buy from the West, we get treated like this. So we buy from the Russians and Chinks, who to their credit, deliver on their promises. Thing is, commie block stuff are shit. Korea now seems like a good supplier; cheaper than westshit but better quality than commieshit. We bought FA-50s from them and previously APCs. Time will tell.
