Haven’t heard of anyone coming down with a sudden case of sigleg recently so I guess they got it figured out.

There was nothing to figure out. The FBI, Military, Police Agencies, ambulance chasing lawyers and engineers were not able to figure out a single logical/mechanical way for the gun to simply go off. They did full blown studies into it. Even when they used the ACTUAL specific guns that supposedly went off by themselves, they couldnt replicate it.

The issue is quite simple. It's a fully tensioned striker fired gun without a trigger safety with a very small takeup and light trigger pull with a wide trigger. That is ASKING for the trigger to be pulled by accident by anything from an ill fitting holster to bubbas side of his finger.

The gun was the most popular in USPSA for three years in a row from 2020 onwards. A shit ton of competitors and winners setting records with it. People who shoot 200k round a year or more. No one's shot themselves with it. And all of a sudden, the media and low IQ sensationalist gun toobers went crazy saying that it can "go off on its own". And everyone ran with it because they were more interested in being the first guy to a funny comment than speaking truth.

The closest it ever came to being able to fire by itself were the earliest guns that were not drop safe when dropped in a specific/certain angle. SIG corrected that all the way back in 2017. Which is totally different than the current "Sigs can go off by themselves trust me bro" low IQ controversy.

Luckily, I can snag all the P320s and P320 mags and accesories for ultra cheap right now.

That's not true. (picrel). You'll be coping more after this. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cOUfurKIjnI

I can't wait to see you crying and hopping around on a Ben Stoeger video after you (thankfully) remove your retarded sperm factories from our gene pool.

You just described it though. That's how and why it can go off without a deliberate trigger pull.

They already had the fucking Beretta.
>>
>>65499888
To be fair, the vast majority of those were completely clapped out and overdue for replacement.
Doesn't change the fact that the army made the wrong choice by buying godawful SigSlop just because they underbid the competition.
The fact that the army didn't even complete the pistol trials and picked the Sig without even giving the Glock a fair chance is blatant evidence of this.

>wagie is clueless about how mil or even just simple company bids work
Handguns have close to zero relevance on the modern battlefield. The average grunt doesn't even get one. The average officer will never fire a shot with his outside of training and will never carry it outside of his office. The average SF guy will pick whatever the fuck he wants anyways.

No one in charge gave a single shit about the minute differences between two irrelevant products from two reputable brands. The choice was made based on a combination of
>who offered a better (cheaper) deal
>who bribed the right people better
That's really it.
>>
>>65499893
They're beat up but I don't get why repairing them and buying a handful of new ones wasn't considered. It'd surely be more cost effective and 99% of the time a military issued pistol is going to be carried and never used and the design of DA/SA makes it as safe as can be when it's inevitably in the hands of someone with a chilly day IQ. Aside from weight there just doesn't seem to be enough gained in a new pistol.

They made the right choice. Money can be spent on more important things and no one gives a shit about handguns anyways. Guys in charge rightfully looked at the bigger picture and avoided bikeshedding, unlike you, the bikeshed enthusiast.

It's just optics. It's not a good look for your military to still be using an old design, especially when you're a world power. Doesn't matter that the old design is fine, it's just not a good look, and looks are everything, believe it or not.

They could have just updated the design. Like in most matters in regards to firearms purchases you buy once and cry once. Now the optics are that the logistical acquisition team is entirely incompetent and/or corrupt as fuck. I agree pistols largely don’t matter. They’re mostly just going to be used in a few rare extreme emergencies and by MPs who use lethal force so rarely there aren’t even statistics out on it that I’ve seen. Every once in a while some retard tries to crash the gate and that’s about it. Updating the M9 was the simplest solution. And it looks better than the Sig.

>I don't get why repairing them and buying a handful of new ones wasn't considered
It would have been, and it would have been more expensive. Same deal with the UK High Powers, they'd spent decades eating the spiciest of 9mm and you'd think that would be a ringing endorsement but there's a point where everything is fucked and you don't want to pay guys to sit there tinkering, then you add in that pretty much the only things that really matter in a military pistol are reliability and durability. You could probably issue a revolver and nobody would notice the difference in reality aside from the extra weight.
Going for a kludged design with no pedigree was really fucking stupid.
>>
>>65499997
They were really hung up on that "modular design" with the swappable serialized FCG for (((some reason))). They picked an entirely new untested design against Glock and Beretta. Definitely some corruption involved.
>>
>>65500096
Anon, "modular design" literally just meant swappable back straps, not even a swappable FCU. People keep getting hung up on that but that's simply not the case and the Glock and M9A3 qualified under the "modular" definition the trial laid out. What is even more suspect is that the APX didn't win when it also had an FCU
>>
>>65500116
yeah the apx would have been a great choice.

>They're beat up but I don't get why repairing them and buying a handful of new ones wasn't considered.
1. There comes a point where a product is so worn down that it costs more to pay someone to fix them than it would to just replace them.
2. Because sometimes human beings are bad at their jobs, if you have a mishmash of new and old guns in your armory, some of the old ones have been fixed while others haven't, and some of the ones that were "fixed" are still giving problems. Keeping the old design would result in sometimes soldiers being issued crap that doesn't work, and when they try to return it having not used it once, the armorer will try to blame them for breaking what was already broken.
>>
>>65500123
>Cheap
>Obscene reliability
>Proven track record with no early QC issues to worry about
>Modular
>Striker fired
>Safe
The fuck was the problem?
>>
>>65501573
I forget, is there a version of the APX with a manual safety?
>>
>>65501985
No just 4 internals
>>
>>65501573
Sig was half the cost and they figured it wouldn't be a problem since it was already in service with a ton of police departments and shit without (known) issues (at the time) apart from the drop safety thing that they made Sig fix before buying them.
>>
>>65502010
The manual safety req wasn’t any less dumb and the M9 still mogs
