I'd argue it fails the function of a weapon on a fundamental level that no other gun could. A gun manufactured significantly worse and is demonstrably less safe, could never surpass the Zip because the designer will inevitably make it somewhat conform to the shape of a hand whereas the Zip wholly rejects the notion a person is supposed to hold and fire it
