How do you become knowledgeable about tanks? As a warplane fan, I am "tank-blind", all tanks look the same to me, I cant tell a Panzer and a Sherman apart, while the differences between a P51 and a Me109 are pretty obvious.
through experience
>>65501307Tank vidya or extreme levels of autism to scroll through early 2000s tank blogs detailing the different variants.
>>65501307Play World of Tanks or War Thunder: Ground Forces for a bitor, there's an old series called "Tanks!" on youtubethere was much more diversity of design up through vietnam, then most designs kinda converged.just look up T-34, M4 Sherman, and Pz. IV...differences are fairly obvious
First time seeing someone call the Bf 109 "Me 109". I mean it's not wrong, but nobody's called it that before.
>>65501307I'm in the same boat as you but fortunately I work with a guy who's basically a tank-autist and has the same lunch schedule as me. I save up all my questions and then ask him during lunch break. And as he knows my area of interest for which he admits ignorance of, he'll often have questions for about things he's seen or read. Works out pretty good.
>>65501307Look for things, make notes, raise questions, repeat.
>>65501378actually some people and games do lol
>>65501378>>65501461In the book "German Aces Speak", a collection of interviews of German WW2 pilots, the interviewees refer to it as the Me-109.

>>65501307>all tanks look the same to meCalm the fuck down Saori
>>65501353Meh, most vidya tend to flub something for gameplay, national bias, or an inability to conduct full research. It's a fun way to engage with tanks, but by no means an objective collection of information.
>>65501307>How do you become knowledgeable about tanks?
>>65501307unironically watch girls und Panzer. It will entertain you and might spark serious interest and teach you something about tanks.
>>65501663seems like I was to late.
>>65501307You can tell if something is a Panzer by the way it is, same with a Sherman. It's actually really neat!
>>65501378Plenty of documents from WWII refer to it as with the "Me" designation, and how the Germans designated their aircraft changed a few times throughout the war
A P51 and BF109 have far more similarities than a Sherman and a panzer
>>65501830You might fall in love with tanks, you might fall in love with your friends little sister
>>65501307Legitimately playing video games and watching YT.That taught me more about tanks and planes than anyhow else.
