When I see this weapon, I think it was kinda useful because if it uses magazines and they are on the side of the weapon, you can use it without exposing yourself too much to aim. but when i see it more something says that this is garbage(including that it looks very disgusting).

Not sure if it has a quick change barrel though. Unless there are reliability issues, I can give you one big reason this wasn't adopted. The RPK-74 is basically an AK-74 with minimal changes which makes it much cheaper to produce on mass. If the PU-21 doesn't have a quick change barrel, I can agree with them not bothering to adopt an expensive squad level belt gun.

>>65505973There is a fundamental idea in squad tactics, in the west its called "firebase", which is that the machinegun in the squad does nearly all the shooting while rifles just run around scouting moving sometimes opportunistically shooting but otherwise withdrawing or holding. This pulls the squad together as a directable unit among other things. Spare and finally the last ammunition goes to the machine gunner, its part of the reason why ammunition is delivered in belts. RPK etc. the same idea.
