Why are there no good .30-06 semi autos? Ive found like 1 ar10, .30-06 isnt that much crazier than .308
>>65506930>Why are there no good .30-06 semi autos?Because the world is ruled and run by soulless freaks who hate fun.
>>65506930It's not any crazier than .308. that's why you don't see it in any semi autos really
The semi auto .30-06 market is pretty much covered by the garand and HCAR. Not many people are looking for one and not a garand or BAR alternative
>>65506932This
>>65506943>hcarNever heard of this looks cool tho shit
BCA has the BC-8 Huntmaster. People who want a "magnum AR" are generally skipping .30-06 however and going straight to .300 Winmag, because they're the kinda people worried about the boog and body armor in said boog. .300 winmag out of a 26" negotiates MOST Level IV very well if loaded with M2AP hot. 2,910ft/s versus ~3,250 is a big diff.
>>65506943What are the options for a select fire rifle chambered in .577/.450 Martini-Henry?
>>65506988Well, do you have a lathe?
>>65507061Let's assume that I do. How would I proceed from there?
>>65507078You can make your dreams come true with a barrel blank, a chamber reamer, and a lot of trial and error. Getting that stuff to feed reliably would probably be a nightmare
>>65507087>Getting that stuff to feed reliably would probably be a nightmareCould you not use an electrically driven mechanical action/loading mechanism to overcome the weakness of the older powder in those loads?
>>65507097Fouling. You could always develop a round that doesn't use black powder.
>>65507104>You could always develop a round that doesn't use black powder.I'm assuming that a .577 Martini-Henry filled with smokeless powder would make Bubba's pissin hot handloads look like squibs. It sounds fun, but I might need someone else to fire the first dozen or so shots from the new rifle, just to be safe.
>>65506930Browning BARBenelli R1
>>65506930>Browning BAR>M1 Garand (I can't believe you forgot about this one)>HCAR>Benelli R1>Colt Monitor (rare collectable)>Remington Woodmasters (the jam-o-matics)>Noreen BN36X3 (the .300 WinMag version is more famous as it's more powerful)>BCA Huntmaster (I do not trust Bear Creek Arsenal, but the people who do trust them have this option)
>>65506930Because .308 largely does the same thing for shorter and lighter actions and magazines. If you want a modern .30-06 rifle, you have Ohio Ordnance's goofy apparatus, and you have Noreen's AR10s.Those are good for hot and heavy loads of .30-06, but the utility of that next to .300WinMag is dubious.>>65506943The older .30-06 market was also largely living on the mountains of cheap milsurp ammo, which you don't have today.>>65506955Speaking of which, Noreen makes .300WinMag AR10s.
>>65506988Rebarreld 20ga saiga
>>65506943this
>>65507202>>65507112
>>65511225
>>65511228
>>65511225this one is actually 7×64mm, scarce very few 940s manufactured in that chambering
>>65507087>rear locking>banana mag>interrupter What’s the big deal? Sourcing ammo for trials would be a bigger bottleneck than the cartridge desu desu
>>65507202>HK SLB2000>HK 940>Valmet M88>JP Sauer Model 303>Merkel SR1>Voere 2185>Verney-Carron Impact NT>Pietta KronosNot sure if the Winchester 100 or if the H&R Ultra Automatic were ever offered in .30-06.
>>65506930long action vs short action, theres no reason for .30-06 when we have .308 and it's almost as good so why spend more money building a gun to fire more expensive ammo that does the same thing as this $1 round?
>>65507097i just imagined someone making an elaborate feeding action that consisted of a metal guy pelvic thrusting a .577 round into the action and having a fixed firing pin, and it would have counter balancing elbows, and this needs to happen.
>>65511270NTA, but 30-06's biggest advantage was its versatility. Weak 30-06 is 10% better than .308 and hot 30-06 is 80-85% of the way to .300 WinMag. So for many years, handloaders could have one gun do the job of those two guns.
>>65511432>versatilityIt has plenty of room in the case for different loadings, bulletsas said completely bridges any space between ~ .308 to .300 Winchester Mag
>>65511270I have a 30-06 vepr and I chose 30-06 over 308 because: -The magazine was metal and therefore more aesthetic. .308 had a plastic magazine.-it was all they had left. I am pretty sure I got the last vepr from k-var, excluding the supersSo that is to say there arent a lot of good reasons outside of my particular situation. I considered reloading but this thing mangles brass.
>>65506955>Bear Creek ArsenalLmao fuck oudda here with them rust magnets. Dem ol bois can't even make their AK sights straighter than the gypsies!
Whataya lookin at me gut fer?
>>65512263BC-8 is fine cuh except the first gen mags don't work.
>>65506930Benelli R1?
>>65511583>completely bridges any space between ~ .308 to .300 Winchester MagIt'll never match .300 WinMag in everything, but as my comment implied, its good enough for any large game.
>>65513142.300 winmag has a major advantage in barrier and armor penetration when loaded appropriately. The ability to drive M2AP over 3,200ft/s is invaluable.
>>65507097Like a chain gun or something? That would somewhat get around the fouling issue, as long as your rpms are low enough
Imagine an ar10 in 220 swift4000 fps semi autoYou'd probably need a stellite barrel to get good life out of it though
There are, they're just fudd type guns that's all
>>65513290I think dudes who are adherents to those really fast cartridges know that shooting out barrels is just part of the game. My uncle used to make his own Pissin' Hot .22-250 loads, but I just don't really understand the speed demon thing
>>65513352pierces steel armor, very flat trajectory, don't need to lead varmints as much, fragmentation is savage, etc.
>>65512263BCA is shit!I've seen BCA barrels ship without rifleing, missing gas ports entirely, gas ports with wrong diameter or location, etc.
>>65513399jesus do you people not know how to use a warranty
>>65513375I think he just liked seeing bigger numbers on the chronograph.
>>65512250How unobtainium are those .30-06 mags and were the plastic ones magpul pmags?
>>65513251
>>65513407Warranties exist for those without confidence in their own workmanship
>>65513407Who cares whether a warranty exists? If one company produces way more lemons than another company, then people won't want to waste time with the company with bad QA/QC.
>>65506930Because there is no topping the greatest battle implement ever devised. (also .308 compares fine to .30-06 99% of the time). .30-06 is a weird intermediate between .308 and .300 win mag.
>>65506988Webley Fosbery Self-Cocking Automatic Revolverbut bigger and rifle shaped
>>65506988Just do a Gatling gun, hand cranked and all. Or with an electric motor if you're an SOT.
>>65513760It's only an intermediate from a modern perspective, it predates the other two.
>>65514747Yeah calling 30-06 an intermediate is weird to me. It seems like a zoomerism tbdesu. For me growing up, 30-06 was considered "The Rifle Cartridge"Anything bigger was weird holland and holland shit for shooting cape buffaloSmaller stuff like 30-30 or 243 was for shooting whitetails
>>65506930You are aware that the rem 7400 exists and is still available. And you can get 20 round mags for it. Zoomers I swear
>>65513461Csspecs still has 10 and 20 rounders and it came with two five rounders. The 5 round magazines are metal, idk where the plastic mags that come with the other calibers are sourced. I dont remember any markings on them I will check when I'm done waging.
>>65514823>For me growing up, 30-06 was considered "The Rifle Cartridge" Its probably a big reason that its stuck around as long as it has. These days with youtube its easy to see how well 308 compares to 30-06. The data has always been there but modern communications have dealt a major blow to fuddlore.
>>65513471lewd
>>6551376030-06 predates .300 Win Mag by nearly 60 years
>>65515116I don't think he was being literal
>>65513491>>65513753Well what I'm seeing is people getting crap from BCA and just taking it up the poop chute no lube.Use the warranty and stay on them. Get shit fixed. If you wanna help make them more reliable, bust their balls.
>>65515223>If you wanna help make them more reliable, bust their balls. They've been getting shit on since 2013 because they absolutely refuse to improve; their QA/QC has only gotten worse as time goes on and they get raided by ICE multiple times due to their insistence on hiring illegals. If you want to save the people from BCA, tell them not to buy from BCA, you ignorant fuck. Yes, those who've already had the misfortune of buying their garbage must use the warranty system, but that takes time, money, and effort that could have been spent on something else if you hadn't bought their dogshit to begin with.
>>65515260Case in point. People aren't calling in on the warranty. They just moan and move on.
>>65506930.30-06 is a meme round that serves almost no purpose except to develop wildcats. The Browning BAR (not the Browning Automatic Rifle but it also works) is pretty much your only real option, there's stinky AR10's but I wouldn't trust one of those to even finish a mag before exploding in some fantastical way.The Browning BAR is a fine rifle, the Mk2 at least I can not speak for the newer models. Personally if I was you I would get a .300WinMag anyways way more fun, way more capable, and they are basically the same price.
>>65515272>Case in point. People aren't calling in on the warranty.Your retarded ass has, in 3 comments, operated under the false assumption that I bought their dogshit and refuse to get it fixed, you imbecile. When they show up at our local trade shows, the samples they handpick to let users test their products out start giving problems. I have not bought their dogshit, you absolute troglodyte. Your worthless ass can shove your fake "case in point" up where the sun doesn't shine.
>>65506943HCAR isn't real. OOW is a money laundering operation.
>>65514747>>65514823>>65515116I understand that, I'm just saying for precision shooting .300 winmag and other more exotic calibers seem to have supplanted .30-06, and .308 match round are generally only marginally less effective compared to .30-06 match stuff, but is generally cheaper.
