Do soldiers actualy take joy in acking other people?
>>
When I was a teen, a grown-up man had attacked me and I've stabbed him a few times. A few years after that I was terrified of the feeling when a knife pierces through tissues, but now I've grown into morbidly liking that, and the fear of death in his eyes is a cherry on top. I guess I've degraded as a human being.
So, if you're a degenerate you will probably like it, and soldiers tend to be degenerates.
>>
Apparently in the world wars the soldiers were so afraid of killing they were purposefully missing their shots, I think this went up all the way to Vietnam or something

"On Killing" is long-disproven bullshit.

>>65508864
Sometimes.
>>
I imagine it's one of those things where in the heat of the moment you're so hopped up on adrenaline that you feel totally exhilarated but then with the luxury of time you start thinking about shit and logically analyze your past actions to realizations of pain and horror.
Like sex with a femboy.
>>
>>65509383
The discussion around the merits of avoiding killing is one thing but no there is nothing disproving his theories
>>
>>65508864
Im sure some would at the moment or after that.
>>
Seems pretty obvious that it would depend on the person, no? Plenty of people are running low or even entirely lacking empathy. Some enjoy it, others don't care all too much and others still can't forgive themsleves until they blow their own brains out a decade later.
>>
>>65509392
Classic, nut in his ass, then start violently beating him out of shame when the post-nut clarity hits.
>>
>>65510282
This is why the second amendment should only apply to femboys.

i mean yeah, why you shouldn't? a killed enemy means you're doing your job as a soldier, which is to kill enemies. sure, the first time is always the most graphic and might scar you for life if you don't really believe in what you're doing, but once you get the hang of it it becomes as easy as breathing. and no, it's not unsettling or inhuman. rather the lack of violence is inhuman. i'm not advocating for throwing away social norms and bonk each others' heads and eat out brains out, but to pretend that we as humans don't just tolerate but seek to harm as part of our nature is ludicrous.
>>
>>65508864
I certainly did. Everyone I knew that had been in combat did too. We only got fucked up in the head when we came back and weren't allowed to deal with problems with violence anymore. PTSD isn't from war. It's from no longer being allowed to engage in war. My dentist is a Vietnam veteran, he spent 6 years hunting gooks in jungles and tunnels. He hunts dangerous game every year on vacation. I asked him straight up once if it compared to the real thing, and he gave me this look like I was the first person to ever understand why he loved hunting so much. He told me no, but it's as close as you can legally get. Then we talked about football since the hygienist came back and we didn't want to scare her.
>>
>>65509376
They weren't purposefully missing, they were just really scared and bad at war and not good at shooting. It can actually be hard to hit somebody.
>>
Some do, some don't. The problem is you can't really tell in advance.

The ones that do are useful to society, but should be kept away from it. Some old cultures were like that: permanently casting warriors as outsiders. Pet dogs stay inside. Attack dogs stay outside.

My father's a veteran of Panama and Somalia and he said he enjoyed the fighting and killing at the time, but came to regret it after becoming a dad. The fact he was killing someone else's son hit him a lot harder.

You werent able to cope with it because you probably didnt habe the Energy self reflection or Social circle to overcome it.
So your brain just turned it into something pleasurable the wound is still there though.
Just because you now like its predence doesnt mean others cant tell, you‘re just
obfuscating reality from yourself (subconciously)

>>65510706
Even if you believe in what ypure dping your still programmed to dislike gore cause that reminds you of your own Mortality and animals generally only kill their own kind if need be and than in small numbers.
If your contiously slaughtering people even if you hate them, your mind dissasociates.
So you become emotionally cold to yourself and the ones you love.
Modern combat is consant hypervigilance (peer on peer) and thus you basically degrade your humanity.
Your mind can cope in different ways but the most common form is just that you become apathetic, selfharm, emotional Regulation via sustbances.
Since those are general reactions (in civilian life as well) to these kinds of stimuli

Totally depends on circumstance as I see it. If I’ve just killed someone I might feel relief and be truly happy to be alive at that moment. Maybe I used my meager skills to overcome a threat to my life- and feel a rush of victory. Along with probably being terrified as well. I can only think of this in terms of self defense. I’m not an outwardly aggressive person and was never in the military.
I do believe that all men have an innate capacity for aggressive violence. Even so-called pacifists. So, of course some soldiers would truly enjoy killing- at least in that moment.

My father is a Vietnam vet. Marine corps. He was eventually moved into CAC, lived among the villagers and trained them. I asked him about this once a long time ago. He said it fucked with him at first, but he said that quickly changed as he saw many of his own dying in the field. He said after a time he became sort of desensitized to the violence, and in his head it became like a game: You get them before they get you. He didn't necessarily enjoy taking lives for its own sake but he definitely liked being good at it, and good at avoiding it. Good enough that he got to come home, when many others did not.

It might be more complicated than that, but that's just what he's told me. He's over 80 years old with fucking Parkinson's now among other things (they let us pin a lot of it on agent orange) and I doubt that killing people is even in the top 10 list of things he misses. But then again he can be a grumpy old bastard so I could be very very wrong about that.

The vast majority of soldiers are poor and uneducated so it’s not surprising that there would be individuals like this.
If anything the surprise is that many of them aren’t, and kill themselves when they get out.
>>
>>65510966
So some dudes would stay on permanent koryos status instead of "graduating"? They wouldn't just graduate like normal and eventually end up getting executed or murdered due to their behavior?
>>
Some get addicted to killing. Some people take trophies, like collecting ears, fingerbones, and whatnot (highly illegal in the modern day). Plenty of maladjusted types go into the military. They sometimes wind up in private security after getting the boot.
>>
>>65508864
I love this movie.

>Grow up in modern industrialized west
>Zero hardship
>Worldview tailored explicitly to ignore reality
>Enlist in the military
>See friends die and shoot other people
>Have zero basis for coping as fake ass worldview gets shattered
>"War is le bad" *PTSD's*

Humans are in-group out-group oriented. Killing the out-group has been the M.O. since the dawn of time. Modern man is not profound, modern man is simply unbelievably weak. I'm sure if things go to shit here in the US then the younger generation that lives through it will have a real different outlook on violence then what the previous generations have had. Classic hard times = hard men but unironically.

>your still programmed to dislike gore cause that reminds you of your own Mortality
Self projection is not a source.
>animals generally only kill their own kind if need be and than in small numbers
Social animals murder the fuck out of each other all the time. Monkeys will straight up patrol their territory to fuck up enemy troops. What the actual fuck are you talking about?

George Macdonald Fraser directly asked and answered the question in his memoir; he said, essentially, that everyone was pleased to kill a guy who was trying to kill you, and especially pleased when you know that guy had probably just killed one of your buddies
pretty much the same as >>65511582 said

>>65509394
Dave Grossman based everything on SLA Marshall's theories, and SLA Marshall's theories were literally based on "I talked to some soldiers and they told me this and I think it was like 80% or so, going off of my memory"
all the people who went round with him observed that he barely wrote anything down
his surviving notebooks and papers show not a single shred of proof about his theories

so if you want to take the tack that
> there is nothing disproving his theories
then likewise there's nothing disproving the theory that your mum is a discount three-hole whore and you are a mincing faggot who lends her out a couple of your holes when business is booming and her hands are full

Anti social personality is fascinating. The idea of being born without empathy is wild.
>You live in a world where almost every person you meet is born with a fold of skin on their forehead. Every now and then the fold will open and this dripping appendage will emerge from it and taste the air with it's scent glands, when it retracts the persons face is suddenly flooded with strong emotion.
>Every once in a while you flick it to see how the person reacts to the stimuli. Sometimes they cry out, some times they weep silently. Eventually you start to become disgusted by the sight if it, how rudely this tiny, pheromone tasting organism living in their head pops out and tastes the air whenever it wants.
>You become annoyed by how necessary they claim it is, how utterly less than human they appear to you because of it. After all, you function fine without it, why would anyone want this disgusting thing? Oh but they claim, it's you who's broken, you who are the inhuman monster who toys with this most sacred appendage.

Dunno about regular soldiers, but in the private sector, it's an unspoken guideline that the day you no longer feel anything after killing someone is the day you should quit. Of course, not everyone abides by this rule, but those guys are generally distrusted because of it.
Some people are just sick fucks.
>>

Happens all the time in spec ops. If you start to develop some disturbing habits they pretty much ignore it until someone is forced to schedule you an appt with a psych doc. Then command legally has to take you off a team/roster. As long as you don't make it an official problem they'll let you keep killing
>>
I remember meeting a guy in my cunts army who was genuinely obsessed with killing animals. He would tell me about how he would walk up and down roads after school to find any that were struck by cars so he could drag them into the woods and finish them off or mutilate the corpses. We lost contact after conscription ended but he would constantly talk about going to Ukraine and he’s probably over there right now.

>>65513662
Are you implying that thirdies living in shitholes are not traumatized? They're simply numb to violence, but they're fucked in the head, that's why you don't want to have anything to do with them
>>
>>65508864
Like everything else, it depends on the context. Some people need to feel personally wronged to get any motivation to waste another person, while others find it arousing.
>>
>>65514434
They mostly aren't traumatized.

>>

The armchair psychology is strong in this thread
>>
>>65516867
Those who can't do, teach
Those who can't teach, become psychologists to explain why they can't teach
Those who can't even do that, become philosophers and literally just make shit up
>>
>>65509383
>>65509394
Grossman takes some wild leaps to bolster his bullshit. For example he said he believes the Macedonians used extra long spears in their phalanx so their soldiers wouldn't have to be as close to the killing for psychological reasons. The logical reason is because it's better against cavalry. He's a poofter psychologist who sees everything through that lens.

>>65510907
Most PTSD is just extreme oxytocin withdrawal from not spending 24/7 with brothers. And most legitimate cases are seen in medical personnel allegedly. Which seems reasonable.
