S&W Shield Plus has really impressed me, I think part of it might just be that the trigger is so good out of the box cause t it's such an accurate little pocket gun.

The most disappointing gun I've bought was a Springfield Garrison, especially since I invested in a few upgraded parts + XS sights right after I got it, only to find out that it was an unreliable piece of shit with FTF every magazine.
>>
>>65510822
I'm exaggerating a bit, it only started getting reliability issues after about 1000 rounds of whatever miscellaneous bullshit ammo I had at the time. I was hoping it could go longer without cleaning, but now I know its limits.

Why are you not cleaning your gun?
Also I’m pretty sure MRBS/MRBF testing specifically calls for lube at 500 and cleaning at 1000 rounds. Expecting a handgun to choke through a full case of dirty range ball ammunition without cleaning and without stoppage is kinda ridiculous
>>
>>65510858
It's reliable and rugged. More accurate than I can be with it, but I didn't think I'd dislike the black on black sights that much. Small thing that I plan to change though.
The trigger... for having the USP Match trigger, it still doesn't come close to what a M9 feels like imo. The double action pull is smooth all the way through at least, but heavy.
Single Action is definitely the best of any stock hammer fired HK I've tried, as expected of the Expert model

yeah i am like shocked how smooth the DA is on my USP 9, I've been using it to practice steadyness drills in my bedroom and it's great for that. I'm almost curious if I should try to reconfigure it for DA only, apparently that's something you can do with USPs right out of the box.

My first Handgun was a Hudson H9.

For the former, probably the CZP01 after CGW/CZC parts. I still dont like how little pressure there is after firing, feel like I have to manually remove my finger to let it reset and I'd prefer stronger spring tension to ride it more easily. But other than that & finding the mythical steel frame, its about the best damn owb compact carry gun you can ask for.

Finally got the LOK grips for the Performance Defensive. Yes I am a skinny faggot whatever just to get that out of the way. But holy shit the palm swell LOK grips make a literal world of difference between the Beretta feeling just off-alignment with my hand shape and fitting like a glove. This thing points almost perfectly as soon as I lift it without trying to bring it on target. I actually have a good enough grip angle I can swap the mag release and not have it feel awkward to try and use my thumb for once even. These were absurdly expensive around 150 ish, but what a difference they make. The 84 grips are a lot more rounded on the front corners so those feel fine but something about the very rectangular front angles of the 92x Performance Defensive Vertec grip just didn't want to work with me initially. If you have had issues with the Berettas and never felt like you were holding it as good as you'd want, check these out then.

Desert Eagle 1911G. My first and only 1911 which I bought after years of owning DA/SA and striker fired pistols. The trigger makes the gun very accurate (Series 70) and .45acp gives you a decent push in the hand but not as much muzzle rise as one would expect. The thinness of the entire gun compared to a double stack feels great in the hand and I can see why some people choose to carry it even in this day and age. Really only the weight of it being an all steel gun is the only drawback in my mind for carry use.

>let you down the most
A Beretta 92FS I received in trade a few years ago and sold on at a loss to a family member for home protection. It was the least accurate 92 series gun I ever owned (I've owned several flavors) and would shoot crazy low at 7-15 yards for some reason. Being it was a fixed front sight there was little I could do to fix it and since it was a range gun for me I didn't feel the need to keep it. I replaced it with a brand new 92FS that has much more improved accuracy at the same distances that its night and day.
>>
>>65510943
I've been recommending the LOK grips to everyone I know for years. Literally changes the gun for me.

Beretta 92fs. It was an inox that I traded a glock 30.3 for in a great deal. Similar to another anon this thing never felt accurate and fixed sights were a hurdle. It had been a dream gun of mine for years. Added nice wood grips, Wilson combat springs, tuned the trigger pull really low. Still sucked. Dude I sold it to says he'll take that gun to his grave he likes it so much lol, so I'm glad he's happy with it.
Dis-Honorable mention for runner up disappointment: H&K P30L. Goddamn awful fucking trigger that was gritty as if it were dragging along asphalt. Bought it bnib from the lgs and ended up trading it off in less than 6 months despite putting 2k rounds through it. Just couldn't get over how ass that trigger was. Might have been a lemon.

Kimber is what a deaf logger yells when he fells a tree

Overall impression:
Mehh

Firstly the good. Um. It looks cool I guess, not as nice as the Prodigy imo but good. Side by side with the Prodigy it's a tiny bit softer shooting with some ammo, a tiny bit harsher with others. Recoil impulse is a little different, the Kimber seems to come back down a little faster but without being more energetic. The trigger is nicer fur sure, after I get in and tune the sear spring it'll be better than the EGW kit in the Prodigy. The toolless guide rod is killer. The extended slide stop is great, Prodigy one is unusable without a complete grip shift. The Kimber's Marvel cut feels GREAT, I wish everyone would do that, it costs nothing.

I guess let's get into the negatives. It's mostly nitpicks, the grip module being the biggest one of those. The Prodigy grip is so superior it's nuts. It's better shaped, more comfortable, somehow softer AND more aggressive. The Kimber beavertail seems really cheap. The edges are all melted like the casting didn't fully fill or like somebody just buffed it to oblivion, and it's painted instead of nitrided which makes me question what it's made of. All the other steel parts are black nitrided, why not the beavertail? I think it's cast aluminum. I want to replace it but properly blending a new one is a serious PITA and requires the frame to be retouched.

I don't like how both guns put the optic right on the damn ejection port, why can't anybody figure this out? 150 rounds and your optic is almost unusable. Does anybody shoot before making engineering decisions? Just move the optic half an inch, God damn.

Slide fit is a little better than the Prodigy but that's not saying much so it's a negative to me. I was expecting a significantly tighter fit, but the front is just as loose side to side (although rear is tighter).

Accuracy is... okay. Better than Springfield with everything but 147gr, which both guns like a lot. But it's not stellar
>>
>>65511022
Unironically? What caliber? I’ve got a little 38 snub nose.
>>
File: mimber.jpg (615 KB, 1500x2000)

The real kick in the nuts is pic related. It happened about 5 times over ~250 rounds. Two of them tapped into battery, the rest no matter how hard I fisted would not comply, had to pull the slide slightly to unbind them. If this continues I will be upset but for now I'm merely annoyed

tl;dr I am so deeply impressed by the Prodigy that it kind of overshadows what joy I have for the 2K11. The Prodigy, despite the haters, I think is really a fantastic gun, especially at $600 less and with some better attributes

In other news, FUKBRNO finally got back to me after 3 years. I emailed the US distributor thrice over a year, got crickets twice and the third time they said they can't get parts and that the PSD Compact slide stop lever I asked for would not fit in my PSD. Not so cool.

Cut to a year ago and I emailed both FUKBRNO's international support webzones and 9 months later one of them finally got back to me, wanted a shipping address. Cool I thought. Crickets for 3 months, not so cool

Then pic related shows up at my door. Cool I thought. You need to pay the tarriff before I can give it to you sir. Not so cool. A $19 trumpriff later and I see they sent not one but TWO PSD Compact slide stops for "free"

And they do fit. And I gotta tell you, if you have PSD you have got to try to get one of these. The PSD's slide stop is all hard edges and hurts like hell with a thumbs high grip. The Compact lever completely fixes that! The finish doesn't match but who cares, it feels fantastic now

Colt Police Positives are in various old timey calibers such as .32 Long Colt but later production had them in .38 Special. Those were very fittingly named Colt Police Positive Special.

This was what I was worried about so I just installed the trigger with the overtravel stop. Definitely worth it and only cost $35 in whatever year that was. 2013 or something. The extended mag release was another good one, $20 and super easy to install but it made a big difference. Those two things and sights are all you need. And the light adapter. And a holster for that adapter because they aren't interchangeable. Love the gun though.

You're all over the place, (as opposed to consistently off in one direction) so my guess is your grip is inconsistent. I would try to queue yourself to get the web of your hand waaaaay up high on the beaver tail and press the grip together with both palms. Not white-knuckle tight but pretty firm, and keep just the pad of your pointer finger gently on the trigger as you squeeze straight back.

Dry fire a lot and watch where the front sight moves. Shooting good gets a lot easier when you have a strong, consistent grip and smooth, consistent trigger pull.

That is true. I have been trying to work on it. My hand is up as high as it will go, but weak hand positioning and the force I'm applying with it is probably wrong
Might sign up for some of the courses my range offers and see if it helps.

>>65511152
FWIW I treat mine only as a defensive carry gun. In that the trigger is super nice and has a great break but there are other issues with it. I have truglo tfx sights on it which aren't super accurate either. It is 100% made to work in a real situation when I'm not trying to go for hyper range accuracy. That's why my only real concern is having to let off the trigger more than I want. Otherwise, it is really nice.

Especially compared to the Hudson lmao. Turns out I really love flat CZ style trigger faces and HATE 1911 straight back triggers. My first Ian disappointment.

If Beretta made a PX4 compact in .45 AARP, it would have the same capacity as the HK45C
Which is to say, abysmal dog shit at only 8 (10 with extended base plates). Likely wouldn't be able to withstand usage of .45 Super either.

It was probably made to compete in the same SOCOM Joint Combat Pistol trial as the FNP 45 Tactical back in the 2000's but don't quote me on that. Beretta submitted pic related but of course the trials went nowhere. I still need to collect this one but I think Beretta only makes one batch per year just like HK does with the Mk23.

Rumor has it that Sneedfield will release an Echelon 45 next year.
>>
>>65511952
I think if you're a guy that shoots a lot, you probably shoot 9mm. .45 enjoyers are probably fudds that go through a box a year so most companies don't see the point in marketing to them..40 only exists because it's literally just a 9mm gun so there's no reason not to
>>
>>65512030
What's actually happening is that compfags are becoming more influential in the "tactical" side of the gun industry which happens every time there's a lull in major boots-on-the-ground overseas conflicts like in the 1990's before GWOT. Special forces fags love shooting 9mm when all they do is train.

Not really if you're just replacing the PPQ, they're basically the same gun other than the optic mount and substantially improved texture on the PDP

If you can employ them differently or have a particular lust for the PDP or Walther brand then yeah imo. Like anon said the F is quite different, maybe enough to otherwise justify having both

Don't reply to Glock shills. They will only ever recommend Glocks, the goalposts will always move, anything cheaper isn't good enough, and anything more expensive is unnecessary. Gen 3 clones from other manufacturers don't have special horse cum-infused plastic so they're inferior, and anything built with a greater degree of craftsmanship than a Glock and has an equal legacy of reliability gets scoffed at because "guns are tools, bro". They are not real, gun-owning people sharing their love for the pistol they bought, they're advertisers.

If someone has only shot Glocks, the obvious next step is a non-polymer hammer-fired handgun(or a .22LR with a suppressor). If I had to pick a hammer-fired non-polymer gun, I'm going with Berettas every single time. I don't want to have to try and find a West German Sig for a good price, third gen Smiths have expensive mags and Walther/HK don't really fit the mold.

Also he COULD go revolver but I wouldn't; not smart for new shooters to get into multiple calibers AND shooting 9mm through revolvers is gay. Yes, moon clips are gay as well.

I have done zero research and just carry whatever. I mean, if you really cared you’d have to test every batch/lot of ammo due to variations in production (certain batches fail penetration testing despite passing QC (Winchester)) or Federal at the behest of an agency’s demand for better barrier penetration randomly decides to make the bullet change for the entire line making it so their JHPs no longer expand out of short barrels (Federal HST 147 gr).

For a while I was literally carrying reject 147 gr M1153 (U.S. Army’s new JHP round) where they randomly have the M1153 projectile or a standard Ranger projectile as they fucked up the manufacturing. I stopped since I was seeing reports of clogging with the M1153 projectile

>>
>>65514307
Don't engage with dot fags. They think that because THEY need a crutch to shoot well that everyone does.
>>
>>65514436
Speaking of dots, you ever have the problem where it feels like you're not centering yourself on the dot so it causes you to look through it at a weird angle and you don't realize that until someone else shoots it?
>>
>>65514436
I tried a dot and for accurate target shooting it was 100% better.
My only gripe is just the increased complexity.
Now you gotta buy a dot and make sure it’s mounted right yada yada (more consumerism)
Then while it might be an upgrade, I’m not convinced that it gives a big enough advantage where if you had a shooter clone himself and battle himself, one with a dot and one without, it would still mostly be about 50/50 who wins the gun fight imo.
What I’m saying is I’m not really sure the better groups and split times on paper really translate into real world effectiveness. Like, other variables in the shooting overshadow it significantly.
Or maybe I’m just talking out of my ass.
>>
>>65514468
I always assumed irons would be good enough for closer distance real life situation shit, but I also don't know much so maybe a red dot would help with faster target acquisition

In most practical defense situations, you're going to legit just be point shooting and not even considering your sights. Basically every bodycam has proved this. In competition, dots are an advantage but they're just one advantage of many you can have and your training can definitely compensate for the lack of an optic if for some reason you can't or won't use one.

Perhaps people with dots simply have more money at their disposal (they do have optics ready guns with optics) meaning they have more money to spend on ammunition which as we all know, is necessary to shoot. Shooting practice requires shooting said ammo, which those with optics ready pistols + optics can probably afford to have and use more of

>I don't know why the assumption is that every "real world" encounter is a 3 yard magdump from retention
It's just because the idea that most defensive shootings are "three yards, three shots, three seconds" makes for good fuddlore. I think there was a study that concluded most defensive shootings actually happen at a distance of about 10 yards since that's the average length of two automobiles, and random muggings tend to happen in places like dark parking lots and gas stations.

Optics make shooting tighter groups easier. The affect is amplified by distance as it is really hard to hit a target at 50 yards when your front sight obscures the entire target. Dry fire training with a dot is also easier than with irons so the cost of training isn't even a huge factor.

Dots are good and constantly getting even better and cheaper every year.

Well the idea is that:
1) it’s not another 9mm gun (redundancy)
2) considering black bears, wild boar, and bobcats are the biggest animal threats where I live, shot-per-shot I’m betting on the 180 grain .40 load besting the 9mm loads.
3) it’ll be a gun I take care of, but won’t feel bad if I get sweat on it or throw it in a bag, it’s just an old .40 Glock.

180gr .40 has less muzzle energy than 147gr 9mm +P
>>
>>65515166
180 grains at 1,000 fps is 400 ft lbs
147 grains at 1,120 fps is 409 ft lbs
For one, that difference is negligible.
Two, 180 grain .40s typically get a little over that common 1,000 fps while I’d be surprised if the 9mm was commonly topping 1100 fps.
Lastly, while the energy difference is a wash, I favor the heavier round since energy disproportional favors speed.

>>
>>65515192
>>65515210
>difference is negligible
the difference isn't negligible because you're sacrificing three rounds for an equivalent amount of energy and paying more per round to do it
>I’d be surprised if the 9mm was commonly topping 1100 fps.
underwood 147gr +P is rated at 1125 ft/sec
NATO 124gr 9mm generally achieves 1100-1200fps
>energy disproportional favors speed
>it's going to have more energy at lower weight
common core and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race
the exact opposite is true, anon. the formula for energy is 1/2mv^2. kinetic energy scales fractionally with mass and exponentially with velocity
you're probably thinking of momentum, with is p = mv

180gr .40sw at 974 ft/sec has 512J muzzle energy and 25 lb-ft/s of momentum
147gr 9mm at 1125 ft/sec has 560J muzzle energy and 24 lb-ft/s of momentum

I mean, I totally get that the gun is cheap and essentially disposable, .40 is just extremely shitty 10mm and shouldn't be confused for an actually powerful caliber.

This post isn't logical. You don't need to buy another 9mm, if anything buying a .40 for this purpose is the actual redundant behavior, could've just used the 9mm you already had instead of buying a new gun that doesn't do anything new. As far as the second point goes, you're just going off your emotions there. 147gr HCs outperform 180gr .40 S&W hardcasts in objective testing. Likely due to the differences in meplat geometry but that's an educated guess.

You do you and all that but .40 just doesn't make sense to me for a woodsgun. I fell like it's a choice people make when they don't actually do research or are trying to find an excuse to make .40 seem relevant again.

>>
>>65515336
we're shooting through auto glass at black bears and bobcats now? what kind of backwoods looney tunes carnival town do you live in?
also, that's entirely dependent on a variety of things like bullet geometry and variable sectional density on expansion
the secional density of 147gr 9mm is 0.053 lb/in^2
the sectional density of 180gr .40s&w is 0.0514 lb/in^2
a hollowpoint 9mm and .40 are going to perform almost the same through barriers and tissue because the inertial mass is not significantly different between them and they have nearly the same sectional density
genuinely, if you're actually worried about bears, buy a 10mm, drag it through gravel and piss on it so it doesn't look nice and you're not worried about scratching it. .40 has no advantages ballistically on 9mm and the holistic advantage of .40 is that the guns are cheap because no one wants them and that's it. It's a cheap gun and the performance is essentially 9mm, and the reduced capacity is the pound of flesh you trade for carrying .40. It only really made sense for USPSA power factor shit and even then .40 has been dropped like a bastard child for 9mm major

>>65515333
there's a retroactive rationalization thing where I think if you don't shoot often and don't have a lot of money, a $250 purchase for a functional and reliable gun is an attractive proposition because you'll be spending maybe $100/year on ammo for it, if that.

I dunno friends. Shoot what you wanna shoot. Carry what you wanna carry. Both are great options for slightly different reasons. For people in a state with capacity restrictions, I think the terminal ballistic comparison is more relevant for the concealed carry market than elsewhere. That's just my two cents. I'm not father figure (and shitting on tripfags is 4chan culture so I'll allow it) but let's get some proper perspective here. If you like .40 S&W, that's perfectly fine. Ballistically and practically, any differences between the two (outside of price and capacity) are essentially insignificant.

I genuinely don't care if you buy a .40, my primary issue is with the idea that .40 has some kind of hidden advantage and you're getting some thrifty, deadly gun that's 'kinda like 10mm just less recoil' is utter fuddlore
the adoption of .40 was an abortion driven by the limpwristed and they succeeded in giving a 10mm cartridge the performance of 9x19 for a higher cpr. there's a reason that .40 police trade-in guns retail for $100 less than 9mm and that reason is that the performance of .40 does not justify the capacity that it sacrifices unless you're trying to make Major in USPSA, and people shooting USPSA are not buying trade in stock glock 23's, they're using guns like that one anon's infinity
