What place do open bolt weapons have in the world?

arming citizens against tyranny

They run cooler than closed bolt.
Easy to manufacture.

How much more expensive would it be to put some kind of foregrip on the sten? Even like some bent wire? Everytime I see someone shooting the thing it looks so awkward cause there's basically nothing to hold onto
>>
If it wasn't for the ATF who decided that all open bolts were machine guns for some bizarro reason we would still have them and anyone could buy a cheap one.
>>
>>65512411
We'd all be speaking German if it ....

Less chance of cook off, but you would be running it like an MG42 to get there.

Millions

The British put significant effort into creating a functional Sten vertical foregrip. After several years of trying they gave up since everything they tried was too fragile for combat use; the closest they got was the Mark V but it broke off way too much to be useful.

It's easy to convert open bolt semi auto to full auto.
>>
Germany took the easy route.

Yeah that's true but that's not actually what the law reads, the atf's rule is unconstitutional and opens the door to banning ARS. They've been doing this for years trying to redefine things as machine guns against the NFA actual law. They have been foaming at the mouth for the last 50 years desperately trying to figure out a way to make all semi-automatics with detachable magazines into machine guns

1934 NFA is totally unconstitutional, the ATF / its 'gun regulations' are illegal, so is any 'gun law' pertaining to small arms in America
Murder is illegal. Kitchen knives and baseball bats are not

The NFA is always been a disaster, especially after world war II and they started selling m1 carbines on the open market. If you didn't know the original law said 18-in barrels on rifles anything below that was illegal unfortunately the US government sold m1 carbines to the general public which had a length of 16 in so they reclassified the law. The NFA also originally almost put pistols on the list of restricted firearms.

extremely cheap and easy to manufacture kinda meh guns.
in my hands, in otherwords

Also, they prevent cookoff in machineguns. If you're plugging away and stop shooting with a belt fed the last thing you want is the round in the chamber to fire at random.

For SMGs, inexpensive rapid fire weapons.
For LMGs and GPMGs, staying cooler and safer for high volumes of fire.

>>65512620
So? Just make it a $0 tax stamp.

M1 carbine barrels were NOT 16", otherwise they never would surplused them in the first place. The drawing calls for a barrel with a nominal length of exactly 18.000. Due to tolerance variations some would be a cunt hair below, say 17.950, and some would be longer.
They only figured this out AFTER the DCM (now called the CMP) sold a gazillion of them post ww2. Government decided that instead of tracking down the gazillions of 30 carbines, in a world where 4473s didnt exist and guns could be mailed to you doorstep, to just shorten the SBR barrel limit to the next whole even number. Lucky us.
>>
>>65512718
The whole reason we have all the retarded laws about barrel lengths is because the NFA originally included all pistols, so there were also laws put into place to preclude work-arounds to the pistol laws. The pistol section was scrapped, but the parts about pistol work-arounds were left, so we got the retarded cluster fuck we have now.
