If society collapsed, you couldn’t buy or sell anything, going into any populated area was just a death wish, and you had to survive in the wilderness; what weapon would be the best option?
Musket? Bow and arrow? Spear?
>>
PSA SBR'd AR15 in 7.62x39 as a brush gun.
>>
>>65514171
SKS.
If you somehow ran out of ammo, affix the bayonet, it's still a spear.
>>
>>65514171
Any available rifle (semi auto preferably) with at least 200 rounds of ammunition. Plus a sidearm with at least two boxes of ammo.

My current larp concept setup is Springfield trapdoor in .45-70 and Colt Huntsman .22LR pistol...

A tale as old as time.
The best option would be the ARs and shotguns that every hasguns person already has, IDK why you think people would regress to muskets or bows or melee.
>>
>>65514171
>and you had to survive in the wilderness;
You will not.
The wilds will be emptied of prey animals in a couple months and after that your only shot of survival is joining up with whatever warlord controls agricultural land in your region.
>>
>>65514171
if it was just about surviving and not defense, break action shotgun
otherwise an AR15 will get you everything from varmints to whitetail deer while being the best defensive rifle
>>
>>65514171
Well a weapon is not much use unles sit has a purpose to be honest. You're fantasy is clearly limiting you to pre industrial revolution technology, I'd probably take a fowling piece in flintlock, good enough for roundball in deer at 50 yards and good enough for birdshot for fast moving animals and birds. Lots of birdshot and lead and a roundball mould, flints and patches and a patch wadcutter, touhcole pick If modern guns were an option I'd take a 22 and a shotgun, primer mix, lead moulds and dies and crimpers moulds for 22LR and slugs and 00 or a combination mould and again birdshot. Practically the kind of rifles that people think would be useful like these because of vidya game retardation and fantasies are pretty useless. There is a reason 22LRs are 12 gagues are the most popular and useful guns in the world. You won;t get any shots past 100 yards in any kind of real wood and you sure won't hit any moving bird or small game with a centrefire rifle insteas of a shotgun. Whether you get kit with a shotgun slug or a centrefire rifle round at the ranges you get in woods would make very little difference, you;d be dead or dying either way. Best way to stay alive would be to avoid people generally. Even if competent you'd probably die with in a few years either during winter due to phemonia or a mix of starvation, disease and exposure and injury

>>65514552
>an AR15 will get you everything from varmints
Yeah. A 5.56 will blow any small animal into inedible mush and youll never hit a bird in flight or a running rabbit with it.

The thing is about all the video game guns you;re into is there are best used in squad fire and manouvre infantry warfare, which is not suprising as that is what they are designed for. As practical outdoors, most hunting or farming guns they are complete shit. Even if you nail a deer, you've no way to preserve the meat and it will spoil fast and a deer or hog is just about all you can use to hunt with them and even then it's a shit choice compared to a scoped 270 with see though mounts.

Aren't there millions of wild hogs?
>>

AR is fine for anything groundhog and up, it's a very fast .22 caliber bullet

Lead mould are not very heavy and neither is priming powder and tools. A flintlock fowler is and was a very very practical gun which is why they were the king of practical guns in their era. That's the tools you need to keep them running. I reload 22LR and 12 gague anyway, so to me it works fine. 10lbs of lead is 70000 grains of ammo. If you think the rest weighs 100LB you don;t know you shit. Not alone that you would have to have a wintering and summer hunting area set up, for a start one is a backup for the other, second you will be caching in one in case shit happens. If you go off with an assult rifle and 300 rounds in mags you'll die in the first winter like a retard. That is for infantry operating in firetams supported both by logistics and more firepower. It's good for that because that is what it was designed for, it's pretty useless otherwise of course if all you have is urban 'prepper' fantasies and vidya fantasies then you think it's the correct choice, it's not, it's bottom of the list. By the time you pile up everything els eyou need from water treatment to a hunting and skinning knife, saltpetre, antibiotics etc you'll have a ridiculous amout of gear anyway. Fact is you will die, nearly certainly one way or the other, your odds of survival over 4 winters are near zero.

Yeah but they're not in the wilds, they're in people's yards at 40-50 per yard
>>
>>65514171
Honestly OP, you could have just said "You live in Gary, Indiana. What's your load out?"
>>
>>65514610
Ah there is no point in talking to people like you, you;ve not got a clue. Anything like a rabbit will be a pile of mush and you will never it it on the move. A 5.56 will bisect a small mammal like that into a couple of offal strewn chunks and lots of 'bits' and you ahve fuck all chance of hitting a small runing animal with it anyway.
>>
>>65514619

but lead is, are you mining that as needed?

seriously? what a waste of time
you've gotta be some euro or retired boomer with these takes

Same problem as with the deer, you have no way to preserve the meat

Oh so you're a kid who hate le evil grown ups are you? That's edgy. What you basically said there is (you) know fuck all and I know.

I already explained that 10lbs of lead is good for 70000 rgarins of ammo but I've just realised you don;t even know what a grain is. Tell me about your favorite survival crafting video game that you think is real and your vidya game fantasies. Actually don't.

I'm in my 40s, I can't imagine wasting hours of my life reloading .22 when I can work for 15 minutes and buy a brick of .22lr
>>
The great depression with a much lower population had less than 10% of people hunt for food and deer populations were so thoroughly wiped out they had about recovered in the 1970s 40 years later after extensive conservation efforts.
Today you have many times more people armed with better guns.
The woods won't be sustaining people very long.
Within 6 minths to a year seeing a wild animal will be rare.
>>
>>65514627
Why do noguns retards think 556 is a nuclear weapon? "It destroys the meat"
Lmao
>>
>>65514680
Shoot a groundhog or cat with 5.56 and report back. Little animals just don't have enough mass to absprb the energy and tend to explode. It's fine for medium game like deer or man, or for destroying varmints with no concern for preserving meat or hide (original purpose of the round it was developed from). Not good for filling the stew pot unless you're hand loading lower velocity rounds.

If your plan is "make powder yourself" then where exactly are you planning on getting sulfur? Are you lucky enough to live near any decent sulfur deposits?

>Little animals just don't have enough mass to absprb the energy and tend to explode.
Whether or not they absorb energy is dependent on the bullet, not the caliber of it. A stable FMJ round that icepicks through the animal is not going to detonate it, which is why for example .308 is used just fine for grouse hunting and can be used just fine for smaller prey. .223 is a varmint cartridge to begin with and will not destroy any excess meat so long as you just choose your cartridge correctly.

A group of people can be expected to march 30km a day carrying with them what they need to fight and live. How many days do you have?
>>
>>65514638
>hundreds of millions
No. There are roughly 350 million people in the US. In a true apocalyptic SHTF scenario over half are dead within 9 months. Most live in cities and/or are no guns.

How are no guns coasties going to make me not able to hunt?
>>
>>65517208
Those no-gun coasties are going to arm themselves and move inland in search of food en masse. Human locusts will descend on your land and eat all there is to eat.

As a weapon to equip assault troops, sure.
As a post-apoc survival rifle, it's not so bad.

Do you want prions? Because that's how you get prions.

They eat crops which will fail upon true shtf. Also you’ll get some horrific disease or parasite from them eating them eventually
