Short version of below:
>who sells 20" M16 style barrels with FSB at a reasonable price? (bonus if not completely pencil)
>would you do 1:7 or 1:12 for 55gr?
Seems I have a few choices and 1:12 is better for 55gr. Really a 500 and under rifle anyways.

Thanks anon >>65502206 for finding that upper; I haven't looked in a few days and accidentally let the thread die. I'll probably go with that upper and dig through my spares for the door and assist. I swear to god I had some dust covers I bought for next to nothing and I know of a way to refinish doors to match from AR15.com by phosphating them. I'll be looking for decent 20" barrels through the next few days. Not sure whether to go 1:7 or 1:12 but I think I'm leaning towards A2 profile for thickness/correctness. Should still be under 8lb all in or slightly over.

PS: Here, have some semi-rare 656 pics as I reply in this thread; unless you dig in forums, the results are always the same 5 B&W pics. They're not hard to find but it's taken me much longer than I care to admit to stumble across these.
>>
>>
Rare look at the rear sight of the 656. Luckiest man on arfcom owns this thing.

Ok I'm done for now. I'll post a pic of the FSB as well later. Forgot this is early enough for teardrop. And no deflector but there's no way I'm getting that short of shaving a charging handle (sub $100 vs like $400-600 with labor). I'll throw it on the "later" pile.

>>65515726
That looks better; hard to say. I think I might buy piece by piece, though. Trying my best to find a barrel with fitted FSB at a decent price; that seems to be about $200-250. Barrel on its own is cheap but then I need to install a FSB (~$20) and barrel nut (~$15) anyways. Looks like I might be able to get upper and populated barrel for about $300 plus shipping, then a bolt that redirects gas for a bit over $150, a charging handle for probably $15-25 plus ship, FA I may have or again it's cheap, and the door I should have. Brings it to about $500-600 all in? Just need to be aware of M4 vs not M4 feed when ordering. I'll probably need to go with an M4 feed barrel just because of my upper and reused lower.

Two lines up to the crossing, left side covering right and right side covering left. At the crossing, both lines move into the their hallways (left into left etc.) at the same time

Yeah, but you'll be putting more guns into the hallways than they will. If it doesn't work out, don't worry.,the mayor will put your name on the city's memorial plaque.

I deal with a lot of antique restoration of 'non-provenance' related stuff. Which is to say I am decent with abrasive cleaning to restore functionality or mirror polish an old rusted $30 belt buckle, etc. I have always wanted to learn how to polish up parts of a gun, pistol specifically, to make it feel nicer. Is it literally just going over the parts to like 3000 grit + autosol/etc or even 15k micro mesh until it is super smooth? Or are polish/trigger/etc jobs really more like subtle dimensional changes, like slightly sanding down a part so it is more flat, or deepening part of a curve?
>Are there any good sources for learning how to do any of this? Anything from feed ramps to triggers even something to make some mag releases smoother would be appreciated. Thanks!

Somewhat related to OP's question
Does anyone have an idea where to get a pencil profile barrel that DOES NOT have the M4 extension and has the rifle extension instead?
It's for an A1 parts kit build.
I am not picky about the twist rate.
I tried ordering from Green Mountain's website, but it was acting up for me, or else I would just go with that.
>>
>>65524469
Are you aware the M4 extension is functionally just fine in a pre-M4 upper? The only bad combination is M4 upper receiver with pre-M4 barrel extension.
At first I assumed you knew it didn't matter, and were just compelled by clone autism to get it right. But then when you said "not picky about the twist rate", it made me wonder.

(as far as where to get one, sorry, I have no useful answer)

The only people still shooting .458 SOCOM are unironically white trash that spend their food money on gun stuff and their food stamps on food. That goes for 50 Beowulf too. Big bullet makes the retard brain light up even if it's impractical and overpriced. That's why BCA is cheap. It's marketed towards trailer trash.
>>
How simple is it to swap what caliber a bolt action is chambered in for something like a Bergara B14? Could I just buy one and swap the barrels or some shit to swap between .308/6.5 cm?
>>
>>65524764
>Are you aware the M4 extension is functionally just fine in a pre-M4 upper?
I didn't know that. I thought that you couldn't mix M4 and standard together, period.
>But then when you said "not picky about the twist rate", it made me wonder.
I mostly shoot 55 grain, so 1:12 works for me.
It would be nice to have the option to use 62 grain, but it's not a big deal to me either way.
>clone autism
I want to get it right, but close enough is good enough for me.
Retro stuff is a niche, so I may have to make do with what's available.

Should I be concerned about overgassing on a 16" AR that's usually suppressed? I haven't noticed any issues aside from excess gas near my face but some people make a big deal out the gas pressure and I also don't want to wear parts out prematurely. The gas block is fixed and the suppressor is lower backpressure but not flow-though. I'll take it out this weekend and actually pay attention to where the brass lands.
I don't want to cause problems running without the can by changing the gas tube, so should I get an adjustable BCG or do I even need to worry?
>>
>>65529337
No. To be fair replacing whatever wears out will be cheaper than the gasblock and time/ammo spent supposedly optimizing and timing it.

I'm hoping I already know the answer to this, but hence the thread I wanna ask anyway. So I was in the process of moving last month, I had about 2500 rounds of 9mm/5.56 in factory packaging, in their cardboard shipping boxes in my storage closet. I asked my dad to store the ammo at his place until I could get my new gun closet prepped. Him not really knowing much about ammo, stored all of it in his open-end garage for a month straight here in AL. So basically the ammo was inside its unsealed packaging, inside of cardboard shipping boxes, in 98% humidity for about 3-4 weeks.

Should I be concerned about corrosion or any issues? All ammo is brass and the boxes were never exposed to rain or anything, just the butthole of the south's heat and humidity for about a month.

Im looking to buy babys very first handgun. American. Primary usecases would be self defense in the outdoors and general practice with a handgun. My first thought was just to get a 9mm glock. Is this stupid? This would not be a bear gun (im too untrained to effectively defend against a bear with a pistol)
>>
>>65531406
Glock is Glock. You'll get more or less exactly what you expect. Nothing wrong with a Glock and they have plenty of upgrade options.
From me, if it's just going to stay stock, I currently lean more to CZ P-10s, as they feel in every way like a Glock 19 that's been just a little bit refined while not being more expensive (in my case cheaper than a Glock 19). Fewer aftermarket accessories and it has its own mags, but if you don't care about blinging out your gun it works good.
>>
>>65531406
I second the CZ P-10. I would get the C (Glock 19 size). It's cheaper than Glock and just as good if not marginally better.
>>
>>65529337
I would change out the buffer system for an A5 if running suppressed. Your gun will be fine without it but it really slows down parts wear and makes shooting suppressed even more pleasant. I use an A5H2 on my 14.5 and an A5H3 on my 10.5.
>>
>>65531406
>a 9mm glock. Is this stupid?
Certainly not stupid, and the 9mm part is really just correct.
I would encourage you to go handle and preferably shoot several different pistols before you decide. Different hands and different handguns are shaped different, so the only way to know what gun fits your hand best is to try them. But for all factors other than physical fit, Glock is a very reasonable pick.
>This would not be a bear gun (im too untrained to effectively defend against a bear with a pistol)
That's an odd thing to say, as opposed to something like "not a bear gun (I don't live in bear country)". If a bear attacks you, I would strongly suggest you shoot at it regardless of your training level.
Anyway, it doesn't matter. With the right ammo, 9mm is a great choice for black bears, and ok for browns. And even if you did want more gun, you still ought to have a cheap-to-shoot (i.e. .22 or 9mm) gun as well, so best advice is to get the 9mm first.

>1:12 is better for 55gr
There is nothing better about slow twists. Over-stabilization is a fudd meme propagated by dumb shits who don't understand stability in air is different than stability in flesh.
>>
how important is kinetic energy for handgun rounds with regard to stopping power?
>>
>>65531547
Idk why I wrote that or where I read that; I must've been tired as the next day I read that and went "what the fuck did I mean by that?" I might've seen a video where 1:12 had a mildly better group for 55gr or something. I ended up going 1:7, "muh clone correctness" be damned because while I want it to look the part, it's getting whatever makes it function and shoot the best. It'll probably wear A2 furniture for this year since I just picked up a real beater set of A2 handguards. I'll also need to get an A1 lower probably next summer and find an upper without deflector once I find someone to modify an upper for me. I don't intend to neglect it but it's going to actually get some use in the woods and not just sit there looking nice collecting dust.

>>65531368
It's fine.
>>
Well just how gay is the OP, on average?
>>
>>65531406

>>
>>65531368
Ironically keeping it loose is usually worse for corrosion in the short term than the boxes, even with the acids in the cardboard. Dissimilar metals touching in humid air around an electrolyte = galvanic fun time. The factory boxes will keep the jackets from touching the cases and primers, especially if they have spacers.
It most likely hasn't done any damage in this little time. Pull it from the shipping boxes, check for moisture or softened boxes. Throw it all in ammo boxes with some dehumidifier packets. Pull and swap the packet in a month, spot-check for corrosion. If any of the original boxes are degraded, put them in with other rounds from the same lot so you can track any issues with it and use the loose stuff first. Light discoloration on the surface isn't a problem, crusties might be.
>t. PNW-fag who's kept several thousand rounds in cardboard in a garage for almost a year without serious issues
>>
>>65531554
It matters, but less than most would think.

Old school advice is to carry at least 380 ACP, or try to shoot for the head/neck if using something weaker due to lower penetration/expansion. Magnum calibers like 357 or 44 are nice to have if you anticipate problems that walk on more than 2 legs, but you also need adequate barrel length to send them and you probably want adequate grip size to not injure yourself in the process too.

Realistically any gun is better than none, but 9mm is the standard and you are probably making sacrifices that aren't worth it if you go up. You should only go down if you want to carry a REALLY small gun.
>>65531406
Glock is fine if you primarily want to stick to well traveled paths. I recommend trying a variety of pistols to see how they actually feel in your hands, shooting the top 5 and buying the winner. If Glock is it then great. If you end up with a CZ, Beretta, H&K or Ruger then it isn't really any worse.

What matters is that the gun you buy fits your hands/budget/preferences and shoots well for you. Not someone else.
>>65531368
That's not an ideal storage method but open the boxes and see. If the brass turned all green or black (which is unlikely in 3 months) then that's bad. Shoot some and see if they aren't cycling like they did before, there are hangfires, duds or really inconsistent recoil. Pay close attention for squibs.

Also different brands and types of ammunition can have different degrees of protection from moisture than others due to primer/bullet sealant or packaging. Check the worst first. If that's fine the rest are probably OK. 22LR tends to go to shit way before anything else so start there.
>>65525849
It requires using a giant armorer's block and wrench to screw the receiver off the barrel. When the new one is installed it also needs to be headspaced. This is not something you are going to want to do more than once and even then it's universally better (often also cheaper) to just get a second rifle.

There are modern Casio fakes as well of almost all models. Press the right button that switches from 12 to 24hr and hold. Real should display "CASIo". That doesn't mean fakes can't fake that as well but it's one more step that earlier fakes didn't know about or bother to implement.

Does it have a front sight block or is it a more modern freefloat handguard rifle with no irons? IIRC that affects which irons you'd need due to height differences. Carry handle has its own FSB height and flat tops have the F height front sight block. Freefloat with no front sight obviously comes as a pair so no height worries other than preference or dot height concerns.

Also I'd say irons are nice but I rarely use them. If you're going to hunt or compete or something with it (or depend on this rifle), consider putting BUIS on it. They weigh practically nothing anyways. Just get ones that actually hold zero and more importantly: ACTUALLY ZERO YOUR BUIS.

Noguns here, Why do modern guns like the AR15 still not have a more true in line with the barrel stock without the "boot" of the stock? If it exists what are they called?
>>
>>65549751
its ERDL. the webbing is kinda weird. its a M-1956 harness with an M2 medic pouch on either hip, with some kind of SMG pouch under them. Im not going to call it fictional because low slung pouches weren't unheard of at the time (bong SAS were known for their custom low FAL pouches) and japs tend to be pretty meticulous about this kinda thing, but its def nothing standard. contemporary grease gun pouches were either in triple mag form, or the doubles had only one large flap rather than one for each mag.
>>
>>65552989
Im not sure what you mean, AR buffer tubes are right in line with the barrel.
>>
>>65552989
They have to make the stock and sights unreasonably high if the barrel is going to be all the way down in the pocket of your shoulder, or you have to scrunch your head way down which isn't feasible for extended periods.
>>
>>65553005
Compare with the TRW low maintenance rifle prototype I posted.
>>
>>65549751
Look up "green dominant ERDL". I think people also call it lowland. Closest you'll get.

A1 20 inch Barrels are the only nonfugly guns in the AR15 family of rifles.

Has anyone fired pic related out of 1:7 with a 5.55 or Wylde chamber to test?

I know this is the least helpful reply but I've shot 55gr hornady vmax out of a wylde 1:7 16" and it shot pretty tight groups out to 100. Or what I'd consider tight groups. Never bought Winchester 55gr hunting ammo though. If it's what I assume it is which is a close clone of the 55gr vmax, it should shoot pretty good.

Jesus christ that has to be slow burning powder, right? Or black powder?

Not sure what model pistol you plan on CC'ing but these clipdraw things are really nice. I like mine at the 3:00 to 4:00 position. My carry piece has a safety so just make sure to practice flicking off the safety as part of your draw and you're golden.
>>
>>65557472
I shot some Fiocchi 40gr Vmax out of a 1:7 and had it keyhole before I figured out what the problem was. Would probably end up doing the same. Super lightweight projectiles like that are usually meant for bolt actions with 1:12 twist.
>>65553027
It is in line. The AR-15 just has a gas system riding on top of the barrel. LMR had it on the side allowing for the effect you are talking about to be more visible.
>>65551745
Did you ever find those clips in the end?
>>
>>65560814
Nah I ended up hand loading it. Will buy some online
>>

Bummer, hopefully there are more gun shops around you that have odds and ends but if there aren't any then there aren't any. I'm lucky I got a few good ones around me.

Are there any polymer alternatives to this Hogue AR grip? I like the shape, but heard the rubber becomes permanently tacky upon contact with oil.
>>

Am I retarded or are Yugo SKSs not compatible with other countries SKS clips? My Chinese has been fine with whatever I threw at it.

>>65560814
First replyer to that anon; almost bought some super light 40ish gr 223 once, guess I'm glad I didn't. And repeating myself here, but the 55gr was fine. Wonder where the line is.

>>65561600
I've had that fucker almost 10 years. Nothing happened to it so far but I don't use any crazy oils, just automotive grade mineral oil which I try to keep off it as oil on rubber sucks to clean. Came with a used AR so IDK how much older the grip or rifle are past me buying it. It's been with me for quite a few miles of hiking around hunting. Very very comfy grip.

there's a lot of "it depends." if it's only surface rust it might only take light sanding to get off. if there are deep pits you start with 120 grit and work your way up. if it's really fucked up you might start by draw filing. a "polished" finish starts at around 420 grit. at around 600-1000 it's "mirror polished." above that is for fancy presentation pieces. the main thing you have to watch out for when polishing guns is to keep edges sharp. you have to keep your abrasive on a solid flat backing so you don't melt the edges. another challenge is screw and pin holes. sometimes it can be necessary to polish with sacrificial screws installed so you don't fuck up the holes but also don't mess up the real screws.

for trigger jobs there are two elements. one is the friction between sliding surfaces which is where regular polishing can help. the other element is the geometry of the mating surfaces where you have to change the angles. you have to be careful because sometimes filing a sear down to have a better angle will make it shorter which will actually make the trigger worse. if you go too far you can also accidentally make a machinegun.

Thanks anons. I see helikon makes some stuff in ERDL, that might be my best bet, getting real surplus ERDL seems pretty difficult.

/wg/ger here. Which are the top most numerous small arms and ammo producers in the world, and where are their factories?
Also, who makes the best quality small arms ammo? Lapua? Does all NATO use Lapua for their special ammo needs?

Thanks for the answer, that gives me more confidence in it.

I don't know if Yugos specifically have a different spec or if the mystery meat clips I've thrown at it are all out of spec but it took me half a dozen tries to find clips that fit.

Whats the best lume/glow paint for marking my shitty oem glock plastic sights?

europium powder with epoxy?
>>
I gave up on trying
>>
>>65564172
I've heard anons buy from there before IIRC. They pop up on gun.deals and other sites a decent amount. I'd trust them off my memory.

>>65564681
Probably. Might want to throw that powder in a matching color Dollar Tree nail polish, maybe ideally a neon color. Make it the same color day or night. Also IIRC tritium Glock sights don't cost that much (relatively), like $120 or less maybe. Gun.deals it and see before you buy pricey glow powder you'll have to reapply eventually. Resin might stick better than nail polish; tritium is way easier though. Also I know it glows long but I'd have to wonder if it would glow long enough to be useful between being exposed to light or charging with a strong blacklight flashlight. Tritium would be less of a PITA; it only halves its brightness, what, every 10 years?

So, this happened over the weekend on one of the police scanner frequencies a few counties over from me. I figured it was fake off the bat because it addressed civilians without an emergency alert tone, and there were no other notifications anywhere else about it. The police later confirmed it's a hoax as well seeking info on who did it.
But I'm not well versed on tactical comms or anything like that, if there was an actual surface breach by an unknown submarine off the coast of the US, that was seen as a threat, would it be addressed with an emergency alert telling people to shelter like this?
>>
>>65563970
I assume they do because every single other Yugo gun is built to a different proprietary spec for some reason. The M48 is incompatible with KAR98K parts and the M70 is incompatible with with the rest of the AK ecosystem

>>
>>65566170
Submarines don't surface to launch missiles in 2001+25. And how would it be reported? Why would you take shelter, they're not going to shell the coastline like it's 1942 they're going to launch nuclear weapons at designated targets. Don't be retarded.
