Apologize for what you thought of picrel when you were under the age of 18
I have never had anything but the highest regard for the Sherman.
>>65516908wut. It's just a good, solid tank. If the USA had mass produced the pershing that would have been better, but the USA was limited by the cranes on the liberty ships and the m4 was at the high end of what they could lift.
i thought it was good, now i know it's pretty good (in europe. in the pacific campaign, it was god-tier).
>>65516908I was always impressed by the fact the US both made fucking 1000's of the things, stuck them on ships, transported them 4500miles and they started up first go ready to fightYou couldn't even buy a fucking car in the 40's that would do that most of the time, let alone go careening all over europe with it. All the slavshit and kraut stuff was lucky to get a couple of hundred k's before something shit the bed and took it out of action.Just to piss off the coons and thirdies, the UK made some breddy gud tanks too during and after WW2
Every tank has its own strength. We should love all tanks equally like the tank fairy.
>>65516908I didn't think it was a bad tank and I always figured the hyperbole around tanks of the time was some sort of mistake. I was told numbers like "it took 10 Shermans to take down a German tank" and I understood that if it was that bad then we just wouldn't have won.As an adult, I now understand that there's money to be made in selling a story.
>>65516967What is the Bob Semple for
>>65516972
>>65516972it maybe genuinely could have done well as a mobile MG pillbox against a hypothetical Jap banzai charge landing on New Zealand
>>65516908Ah, the infamous Sherman. Often referred to as the 'Tommy Cooker' by the Germans. The nickname referred to when the Germans starving from lack of rations, would scavenge destroyed Sherman tanks for the precious cooked meat inside. In fact, the designers of the Sherman designed it to light every time, so that cooking of the crews was guaranteed. Of course, the Germans would often eat the allied tank crews whether they were cooked or not, regardless. My grandpappy told me this in great detail when I was a young boy. Truly the horrors of war.
>>65516972infantry fire support vehiclehaving a mobile shield that can fire at the enemy is better than nothing, it genuinely was judged too harshly imho
>>65516908It would never keep up with the actual tank war in the east. It did fine because it rarely met real armor warfare.
>>65516972Complete and utter destruction of the enemy.
>>65516908I thought it was a submarine>We're playing evacuation of Dunkirk>GlugGlugGlugGlugGlug
>>65517024>It would never keep up with the actual tank war in the eastyes it would. If the Soviets had a dozen divisions armed with Shermans at Kursk they would have done just as well as if they had T34s.>It did fine because it rarely met real armor warfareit did fine when it met real armor warfare too. Get with the times. the Sherman was a good or excellent all-around medium tank in ALL respects.
>>65517103pretty sure that post was bait since the more veteran Soviet tank divsisions often used sherman tanks
>>65517024do you just say the opposite of the truth at any chance?
>>65516908I'm pretty sure I considered it the best tank any nation had produced in strategic terms when I was 18.But it was never my favorite tank either way.
>>65516989Lel
>>65517024is this bait, or have you just not read Dmitriy Loza?
>>65516908I thought it was cool and extremely well rounded even though it wasn't heavily armored. My grandpa worked with them and briefly Perishings during the war and really liked them. That whole side of my family were Ford cultists for a long time because of them.
>>65516972Sometimes you want to fuck a disabled retarded girl in your backyard
>>65516972Tractor laundering operation. Not even a joke the tractors they bought for this were sold to farmers for pennies.
>>65516908>side armor is something like 35mm>bigger than a barn>popped turrets non stopsmall wonder they called it the tommy cooker.
>>65516908But I never hated the Sherman. Worst it's ever been was 4th place back when I thought the T34 was just a good, solid tank and the panther was the GOAT. Now it's 2nd place, nothing can usurp my love for the Tiger, loved it as a kid, love it as an adult, and will love it as a corpse
>>65516908I thought the cast hull looked cooler than the welded ones.I WAS RIGHT
>>65517406>side armor is something like 35mmwell that was...every medium tank
>>655174062/10
>>65517423Yeah but it was shit.
>>65516989>>65516967Neck yourself
>>65516908I always liked the Sherman. I also always thought it was kinda metal (if not necessarily entirely practical) how some would be warpainted, like the Rice's Red Devils ones.>>65516966It is, isn't it? A solid all rounder tank which was available in large quantity to provide armored support to G.Is all around Europe and the Pacific.>>65517472Nigger.
>>65516908It was good. Fortunate that it only fought three enemies who didn't have the quantity (and in case of the Japanese also firepower) to capitalise on the Sherman's weaknesses, but there is a reason that even after a mere limited number of engangement against German tank the Americans accelerated the development of the M26 Pershing.
>>65517479Tranime avatar posters are the giggest-niggers. Do you even the rules? Yeah fought nought.
It was the quintessential toy soldiers tank.
>>65517489>Do you even the rules?>Racism outside of /b/Like a bacon eating, polyester wearing Christian saying homosexuality is a sin (it is)
>>65517497Nah, that's the M48 or T55 depending on where you grew up
>tranimeposterLeave.
>>65516908This thread reveals the huge age range of posters, those that grew up on "Nazi Germany was an unstoppable force with the best of everything" and those that didn't.I grew up on that shit and believed the Sherman was trash that was cheap to mass produce until about 20 years ago when I started reading about tanks. Now I don't think it was the best tank of the war but it was pretty good for what the US needed at the time from being lifted by dock cranes to being able to cross most bridges.
>>65517489Not avatar posting, redditor.
>>65517512I never thought that even back in those days. Because you don't fucking win war with fragile and disposable crap that can't even do its basic job alright. You could get away with very shoddy goods and equipment and the consequences for that for more tertiary things, but not for something where grunts are supposed to win life and death engagements.Like, look at the 1918A2 BAR, it's REALLY not a great light machinegun, there's a lot of things about it which could be better. HOWEVER, it still functions alright overall as a light support weapon, and you can count on it to do its job even if it's rather imperfect.Similarly for the M1A1 Thompson, it really wasn't the best SMG of its era by any metric, but it worked well enough and was available.>>65517518Um, NO, tranime chud, don't you know that a matching setup and punchline image is heckin avatarposting? OMG JANNIES BAN HIM!
>>65516908I've always been a diehard ameriboo when it came to WWII growing up. Everyone talks about the German uniforms but I thought they looked tacky and overdesigned, kinda gay. Same with most of their tech.Loved the greeble and grit of American GIs, their materiel, and aesthetic. Just went hard. I look at images of Operation Overlord and get a boner. Makes me wanna help take Berlin
>>65517006Is this your masturbation fantasy?
>>65517512I hate to say this but I think we have World of Tanks for changing perceptions so drastically and calling out the History Channel for being so full of shit. Granted has shifted opinions somewhat too far the other way but at least it did spark debate with people starting to figure out at lot of what was reported wasn't adding up.

>>65517534He posted like half a dozen other attempts. In reality, once they upgraded the Sherman tanks for the wet (glycerin) ammunition storage, crew survivability was above average for tanks in the war.>>65517538Maybe. History Channel was definitely an uneven mill of slop which gave lots of people fucking insane ideas about WW2.
>>65516972180 DRGREE SLOPED ARMOR
>>65517525Think one of the big red flags for me personally was I remember people talking about the 76mm on the M18 Hellcat being Gods gift to tank destroying and able to clap the cheeks of the German big cats but yet when the exact same gun was fitted to the M4 Sherman it couldn't do shit? Didn't add up.
>>65517539not an argumentyou lost
>>65517538WoT is just the new history channel making a new generation believe complete bullshit, I enjoy it as a game but I also shot down a dozen jets with my Bf 109 today.I think a lot of kids wont understand that was only possible because the guys flying the jets had no idea what they were doing and not because it's likely that progessional pilots in the same planes would have the same outcome.
>>65517534It's copypasta, or at least, I hope it is. I think it's funny anyways
>>65517569its a bot

>avatar posting is when two imagesDo R*dditors really think this?
>>65517533>Everyone talks about the German uniforms but I thought they looked tacky and overdesignedWhat the hell is overdesigned about the German uniforms? Besides Silhoulette and colour scheme the German Uniform is practically the same as the American Uniform visually speaking. The only major distinctions are the small eagle on the chest and the collar tabs. You just don't associate the American aesthetic with the so called "greeble and grit" because that's the image you have from Hollywood which stylized both sides with stereotypes for more dramatic effect. But as already said, there isn't a major difference appearence wise, a German will look just as rugged and dirty as a Soviet, American or British. In fact, here in Germany we have the stereotype of the Americans and British being the well-dressed soldiers, our movies depict the Germans just like Hollywood depicts the Americans.>Same with most of their tech.No. Most German Tech was completelly ordinary. Besides some experimental weapons that barely saw use in the late war and later heavy tanks (whose unreliability was more based on logistical and industrial shortcomings rather than actual design) the German Equipment was comparable to most of the Allied counterpart in technological scale and intended use. A Kar98K was just a capable Bolt Action Rifle, the Mp40 was an adequate Sub Machine gun, the MG42 despite the high fire rate was an easy to produce and noob-safe machine gun. The workhorses of the German tank force were Stugs and average Medium Tanks, the workhorses of the German air force were normal, capable design until the mid-war when they became in fact underengineered and outdated. The only significant where it was actually true was the Navy. But nowadays nobody cares about the German anymore, it is universally considered a joke.
In a vacuum, not the best tank, not the worst either. Probably middle of the packBut a tank can't only be rated on "paper stats", but also on whether the country operating it can build and deliver them to the front lines in necessary numbers and efficiently maintain them to keep them in the fight. In that regard, it's arguably the best tank of the war
>>65516908It's a good tank. My opinion on this has not changed

>>65517625More than likely shartyniggers.
>>65516908I thought it was a fine medium tank, I just wanted American heavies in RTSes.
>>65516919Fun FactThe 76mm Upgrade in Company of Gyros is M4A3E4, but that tank itself was a post war modification of M4A3(75)W. They likely got that tank from Kelly's Hero's.
