More vacation photos form my trip to London back in July.

Starting out with a pair of 15"/42 Mark 1 naval guns, from the Revenge-class battleship HMS Ramilies and the Roberts-class monitor HMS Roberts.

A German air-dropped magnetic mine. These were later adopted for use against cities, where they parachuted down and exploded on contact with the ground instead of burying itself a few feet into in before popping off. This meant more of the blast went off to the sides to much things up, instead of being directed back up at the uncaring stars.

Nebelwerfer MRLS, 21cm neberlwerfer 42 I think.
While these "fog mortars" were originally meant to deliver smoke, the large internal volume of these thin-walled rockets meant they could also deliver a lot of HE or incendiary compound. Mortars, including these kinda-mortar-rocket-launchers accounted for about 75% of the British losses in Normandy.

Gas! GAS! Quick, boys!—An ecstasy of fumbling
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time,
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And flound’ring like a man in fire or lime.—
Dim through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.
In all my dreams before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

With all the hubbub there used to be about Saddams chemical weapons the Royal navy had to at least pretend to do something about it during their patrols in the area. The solution was this sealed gimp box that could be placed, into which one operator was then stuffed to handle all the chemical detection equipment it came with. I'm not sure Peter Dinklage has room to stand upright inside it.

Armoured car, presumably used by British troops in North Ireland. A sign nearby makes note of how difficult it was for troops trained for open warfare to handle such patrols, something I note may be a good thing if you're hoping for gratuitous violence, excessive use of force, and an overall brutalisation of your men.

Control panel form the HMS Renown, showing the captain the status of the submarine's 16 Polaris missiles, and by extension if the world at large has gone to hell in a handbasket.

Oh bloody... yep, this dump was indeed brought to you all by whatever cold/covid/flu it is that kept me home from work today, and boy does it show.

bless you, anon

No problem. I've just come down with a touch of a cold, myself. You're doing better than me, a mug of Neo-Citran knocks me for a loop that I usually stay offline so I don't embarass myself. :^)

Does that museum have any of the early radar equipment? Radio gear, etc? Y-Station paraphanelia? I suppose that'd prob be at the Bletchley Park Museum.
>>
I was greatly disappointed in that museum. I figured with it being the flagship military museum of a empire that spanned the world and existed for hundreds of years, and is meme das stealing everything that isn’t nailed down to stick in a museum, it’d have more, older artifacts. Instead it’s the usual WW1, WW2, a little Cold War, the Holocaust, and a little GWOT.

Fucking lame.

None that I can remember, and I didn't end up photographing any either, which further suggests its absence.

beautiful pictures OP, you have a real knack for photography
as for the planes ive always wondered how much modifications get done on them so they can be held up by the wires
>>
On a largely unrelated to most things note, this thread also means we're now through half of the museums I visited during this trip.

>you have a real knack for photography
Nice to hear that twenty years of practice and a decidedly not cheap camera hasn't been for nothing.

>as for the planes ive always wondered how much modifications get done on them so they can be held up by the wires
I suspect many aircraft have lifting points built into them so they can be craned around for maintenance, shipping, and the like.

Aww that's disappointing. Oh well. I've heard the archives there are quite extensive.

Are you the same anon that did the HMS Belfast photo thread here a while ago? Alll great stuff. Anyways, some tea and toast w/ honey and enjoy your night and rest easy. Thanks, man.

Despite the name of this place I guess the "Imperial" side of things mostly ended up in the British Museum.

Yep, also the Bevington and the British Museum threads before that.
>>
>>65519029
I identified all of the electronic equipment that were in your pix of the Belfast and tried to post a list but 4chan thought I was spamming so I abandoned the attempt.

>also the Bevington and the British Museum threads before that.
Well now i'm going to go look thru the desuarchive for them. Thanks for the heads up.

>>65518713
Yeah I feel the same. Was there last week and left disappointed.
Also another of those modern musea where they tell a story instead of just showing things.

Should the threads be hard to find you can at least get the picture archives from https://www.mediafire.com/folder/4v4c0uwexuyo7/My+Photographs
