>dropping your least-experienced airborne division, that had never actually fought together as a cohesive formation, led by a general who had never even participated in a practice jump before, on your most critical objective that if you fail, the entire operation is a complete failure

What did Montgomery and Browning mean by this? Even if they just HAD to have British troops be the ones to seize the crossing over the Rhine as a matter of national pride, surely they could have sent the 6th Airborne (which had literally conducted rapid seizures of river crossings in Normandy) instead of a bunch of newfags, right?
>>
>dropping your least-experienced airborne division, that had never actually fought together as a cohesive formation

101st in Normandy ring a bell?
>>
didn't they hold arnhem bridge for way longer than they were supposed to
>>
>>65519434
>on your most critical objective
Worse, 15km to the west of it.
>>
>ziggers are so desperate to sow division they make a thread hinging on convincing people that the 1st Airborne Div, of all formations, was tactically incompetent.
Kek

Counterpoint: imagine if those dudes had been inserted into a normal, winnable situation instead of into a total strategic clusterfuck beyond their control and not of their own making. The performance of the men in that unit was, on the whole, very solid; to put it mildly.
>>
>>65519434
1st Airborne had seen service in Italy
>>
>>65519434
I remember this level from the 2005 call of duty
>>
>>65519685
Not OP; the US had no experienced airborne divisions in June '44.

Yeah there's been alot of entirely random spam about the UK recently.

Is it because they failed to kill Boris Johnson clone #89?

Do you think armatard is back?

Fair enough.

I would argue the rent is being paid by the FSB.
As a burger I must say, I am rather proud that our bongistani friends across the pond have managed to ascend beyond "rent free" to the whole new level of "foreign government actively paying rent, (via paying shills)"
>>
He who dares wins nigga
>>
>>65520736

1st Airborne was clearly not up for the task in Arnhem bro. Otherwise they would have won the battle.
>>
>>65519434
The Red Devils have little to do with why Market Garden failed.
>>
>>65520765
The 82nd somehow doesnt count?
>>
>>65519434
The whole plan was full of flaws, the quality of the troops wasn’t an issue. If I had to pick one of the errors it was overestimating the speed of advance of the relief forces. Guards Armoured had sped through Belgium. But in Holland the conditions were less suitable and the German defence was better organised. Monty made a similar error regarding the advance on Caen in the Overlord plans. Incidentally my grandfather was in Guards Armoured and he couldn’t stand Montgomery.
>>
>>65528791
>and he couldn’t stand Montgomery
I'm pretty sure he was almost universally despised. And based on what I've read, he was completely unlikeable, like no redeeming personal qualities.
>>
>>65528791
If you told me that documents were unearthed that proved Montgomery was paid by the Soviets to delay Allied progress as much as possible I would 100% believe it.
>>
>>65521544
Except that time
>>
>>65519691
3 days and four nights, under attack by Bittrich's entire SS panzer division. Armed with only the small arms and PIATs they could bring with them in their gliders (the gliders carrying the heavier weapons they were supposed to rely on had gone completely off course and were unavailable).
>>
>>65528802
Monty's entire job was to make sure the British looked good. Not to win the war, just national pride. They'd force the Americans to slow their advance into French towns so that a handful of British forces could be claimed to have liberated them.
>>
PIAT was such a piece of shit. How did they even come up with such shoddy design when they were white industrial empire at that time?
>>
>>65520736
>even mildest most restrained critique of British military planning in WW2 is a Russian plot to tear apart Nato or some bullshit
the death of discourse, what an absolute loser mentality.
>>
>>65532872
>point mortar sideways
>you now have a revolutionary AT weapon
>>
>>65519691

Yeah but they legitimately could have held out even longer if the entire division had actually moved into the city as planned.
>>
>>65532893
Brits love to mythologise their fuckups as some kind of heroic stand against overwhelming odds while ignoring the cause of the fuckup occurring in the first place, which is usually hubris and overconfidence.

See Scott vs Amdusen's race to the south pole.
>>
>>65538154

That was the one where Amdusen beat the Brits by like a day and then they all died on the way back right?
>>
>>65540928
Amundsen beat them by 34 days, but yeah that one. Scott and his men died and brits do what they always do and painted them as heroes dying in glory when they died due to incompetence and all the Norwegians were fine.
>>
>>65520745
Me too. It was fun.
>>
>>65540928
>Amundsen hears Scott is going for the pole
>Amudsen quickly gets together an experienced team with a shitload of sled dogs
>The Brits bitch about him trying to beat Scott after he had already left as being unsporting and ungentlemanly
>Scott decides to take ponies, motorised tractors and sled dogs
>The ponies all die, the tractors freeze up.
>Amundsen makes it to the pole and back with no casualties
>Scott reaches the pole a month later only to find out he got cucked by Amundsen.
>Scott and his party die on the way back.

Despite the fact that Scott was totally unprepared for polar conditions, got himself and his men killed, and didn't even get there first, he is still seen as a tragic and heroic figure in Britain, and Amundsen gets painted as the asshole who stole his thunder.
>>
>>65541178
>unsporting and ungentlemanly
God, I fucking hate bongs.
>>
>>65524766
1st Airborne was more up to the task than any other airborne unit in existence.
>>
>>65541290
Id argue the 82nd would have been a better pick, esp considering how they performed during the operation
>>
>>65541178
Scott's extreme anglocentric retardation got him and his men killed. He refused to accept the idea of dogs as draft animals, despite them being used in polar conditions since Inuits first colonized the North.
>>
>>65532893
>>65538154
It would be more believable if this wasn't the 4th thread about Market Garden in a week.
And somehow these "earnest discussions" always include seething about the bongs. This time about Scott's Antarctic expedition for reasons best known to ziggers.

>>65541307
This is true, but not because the 1st Airborne was bad, but because it simply didn't have enough transports to land the whole division in one lift. The American divisions were all dropped on the first day, whereas the 1st was being dropped over three.
It's important to remember too that air transport was a shared resource, so this was a decision. When they planned Market-Garden the assumption was that the hardest fighting would be closer to the front, where the main german forces were and that the 1st was being dropped deep in the rear. Missing the German panzer division that was there fucked the plan harder than anything else.
>>
>>65541315
>anglocentric
You fags just can't help yourselves
>>
>>65540939
They might has well have been going to space and got caught in a 14 day Antarctic blizzard. You should have brought up Isandlwanna as a better example
>>
>>65541365
>Everyone I don't like is a zigger shill
Just like zigger military fuckups are a result of zigger cultural deficiencies, so too are Bong military fuckups the result of Bong cultural deficiencies
>>
>>65532802
They didn't want the Yanks, or worse, their own colonials (Canadians) to outshine them like they did back in 1918.
>>
>>65520736
>>65541365
>stop talking about WW2 we need to make this about ziggers and heckin Ukraine!
>Noone would ever talk about/k/ stuff unless it relates to the Russo Ukrainian war! Why else would we talk about it?

Dilate and kys you basement dwelling tranny nigger

Also I searched the catalog and archive and only found one thread about Market Garden made on the 17th with literally 7 replies so your literally imagining ziggers making threads about a British battle that happened 80 fucking years ago that the Russians took no part in.
>>
>>65541944

There were at least four by my count

Why did the Americans tasked with seizing Arnhem bridge when it was undefended go east instead to hunt for nonexistent Panzers in the woods to the east instead? why did the American officer who ordered it later lie and claim Montgomery had ordered it?
>>
>>65547857
He died performing S&R over the ocean.
