Perhaps put him beside your own pike formation, so he can jab at the other formation with impunity while they are preoccupied.But yeah, if you want someone who can smash apart pike formations without engaging in the same long stick poke-poke game, then they need to be able to comfortably wield a single handed weapon with greater length than a pike so they can safely engage the formation, and that requires a fucking enormous giant. If the requirement is wielding an 8 meter long sword to comfortably beat pikes, then that implies needing to be in the vicinity of 20 meters tall to wield that sword. You might be able to get away with less with a larger, more specialized weapon, but that giant is also going to be vulnerable to getting pelted with missiles or pushed by infantry formations, so it can't overly specialize in pike smashing without becoming less effective in practical battlefield conditions.
