The killers who exhibit psychopathy kill for reasons of instrumentalism. To get something from the victim. But the psychopathy itself is not the *reason* for killing, it just lowers the inhibitions to killing because, as I said, they have little to no empathy.

The vast majority of psychopaths are no more dangerous - in the Hannibal lecter sense - than any other normal person. If you're out and about, not a recluse, you probably meet one or two psychopaths every day as they comprise 4-5% of the population.

And fyi, Hannibal Lecter has antisocial personality disorder, which has some overlap with psychopathy, but is it's own distinct thing. For example, he is portrayed as having extreme self-control which doesn't map well with psychopathy.

Sure, I didn't say that, anon did and I just didn't disagree with them.
They were being unnecessarily specific because the real conversation is about whether people who are mentally ill should be treated or punished. Surprise, a lot of crime is committed by people with various disorders.

It's possible to imagine a future where all criminal tendencies are detected in early child hood education and steered toward treatment or special education and essentially all crime is just crimes of passion.

There's loads of scifi about the end state of this rough concept but it all pretty much requires freedom from most real world constraints, because a lot of that is basically done today for the easy and obvious cases and we're getting better at it over time e.g. schools these days dealing with mild autism.

Absolute Resolve was many months of planning and preperation with a huge multi-agency effort to make sure everything went perfectly on the day.

Just Cause was a response to an unstable situation and was thrown together in a huge rush with very little advance planning beyond whatever contingencies were already in the filing cabinet at general staff.
