>Unsuppressed: Go deaf
>Suppressed: Go deaf slightly slower

Great... can't they do better than this? They seem like a huge waste of time
>>
Shoot subsonics
Or if you really want to be lethal and silent, become a spear chucker
>>
>>65551993
Its only ever been about signature reduction, ie making it harder to see where exactly your shots are coming from because no flash and not kicking up so much dust. Preventing hearing damage is a civilian cope rationale in order to get them legalized, which is good, but its also pretty much bullshit.
>>
>>65552015
They do help, the NGSW cannot be fired safely without a suppressor.
>>
>>65552248
Or with. The damage is just more gradual.
>>
>>65551993
If you can combine both ear protection with suppressors, you can get supersonic gunshots to hearing-safe levels.
>>
>>65551993
poor detected
>>
>>65552323
duh, if you got ear pro in the first place you don't need the rest
>>
>>65551993
Like transition to all captive piston amminition and hope ranges never exceed
Actually, what would be the effective range of a rifle or intermediate captive piston cartridge that was feasible for an infantry loadout? 100 meters against unarmored targets?
>>
>>65551993
Suppressors aren't just about not going deaf.
>>
>>65551993
The New York Times did an article a while back on how indoor shooting can give you micro concussions from the concussive forces that guns shit out when you fire, and which is compounded by the confined nature of an indoor range. Apparently that slowly stacks up and might fuck you up if you're unlucky.
Anyway, the NYT also found that silencers help with preventing that because it reduces the concussive forces and blast exposure. So there is that.
>>
>>65551993
Yeah kind of. But shooing suppressed is just nice, and once you start you won't want to stop.
>>
>>65552363
with a tube you need less ear pro though
>>
>>65551993
A stupidly long suppressor but then you'll be bitching about how you might as well be carrying a spear.
>>
>>65551993
They really do need noise-cancelling headphones so the squad can talk over short distances. Just put an outer layer on them to make them resistant to shrapnel.
>>
>>65552015
TPBP, it's not about being quite it's about not kicking up a shitload of dust.
>>
>>65552363
>tfw when you've never shot a m60e3 indoors
OTOH that tinnitus and TBI were in fact service related. The church bells in my head, mood swings, migraines, and memory loss kind of suck, but I get full base privileges, free health care, and $2100 a month, so it's kind of worth it. Kids these days don't know what they're missing out on. Fuck suppressors. They're a gimmick.
>>
>>65551993
Shooting outdoors with suppressors and double earpro means I can shoot all day without fatigue. My gf has congenital hearing loss so I have to take extra precautions when I shoot with her.

>make rifle heavier in the front
>reduce longevity of rifle
>-5-10% reduction in dust whilst the rest of the squad/platoon kicks up a literal dust storm regardless
>suck the dick of the MIC even harder than before

Straight up the most retarded trend I have ever seen barring the exception of the US Army adopting a magnum dong battle rifle while throwing away all lessons learned regarding infantry combat since WWI.

>Preventing hearing damage is a civilian cope rationale in order to get them legalized
This is like the most arrogant shithead enlisted thing I've heard all week. How much was your reenlistment bonus? And what color Hellcat did you blow it on?
>>
>>65552367
Captive piston is shadowbanned by Zog because it would allow any gun to be instantly transformed into a viable assassination tool.
>>
>>65551993
Just hold out for projected energy weaponry
>>
My mp5 with a MOB and subsonics is hearing safe outdoors and significantly less annoying indoors even with muffs.
>>
>>65552015
Nah, initial trials specifically mentioned benefits in squad and platoon communications as well.
>>
I just wouldnt let myself get hearing damage, but Im just built different I guess.
>>
>>65553189
>Guns can't legally damage your hearing of you just say no
The one weird trick your earpro doesn't want you to know!

>slightly slower
25 decibels is 32 times less damaging, not "slightly slower"
>>
with suppressors you can actually communicate while shooting.
>>
Less recoil, zero muzzle flash (firefights at some point are just shooting in the direction of muzzle flashes to suppress while closing with their position), less concussion with 4 - 6 rifles firing at once, makes communicating using gunfire muffling earpro way easier. It's like the ultimate muzzle device.

You've got that wrong. The first surpressors were commercial items for hunters and sport shooters. It's military use is the actual cope, because veterans are deaf as shit.

>>65551993
WHAT?

>NYT
>anti gun article

I am shocked, truly.
>>
>>65554913
Funnily enough the article more or less admits that if you're not firing .50BMG regularly, you're probably just fine. The human body is fragile but it's not THAT fragile.
>>
>>65554913
The times is one of the last decent journalism ventures out there that's not completely zogg'd
