Well /k/, I finally did it!
After over a decade of spam-can mag dumping, I've finally managed to ruin my AK's barrel!

>Got me this Norinco Type-56S for dirt cheap, long before the gun-grab laws, Corona or Ukraine boogaloo.
>Very pleasant to shoot, super reliable, respectable accuracy within 100 meters.

>...Up until NOW. Now the shots go all over the place.
>Aiming at the target's groin, on a bench? The shots give it a new hair cut.
>Can't adjust the sights any higher to compensate either.
>Groups all around worse than before as well, even up close.

Took the piece to a local gunsmith, and whaddya know:
a good inch or so of steel has been essentially ripped off from the inner "neck" of the barrel, right where the rifling starts. Meaning the bullet doesn't seal properly, resulting to plummeted accuracy + obvious risks.

To be fair, the gun is around 40 years old, and I've pushed insane amounts of dirty as fuck Commie surplus shit through its pipe for many, many years, so this didn't exactly come as a huge surprise.
But thanks to the Yuropean gun-license hell, I can't just go and grab a new firearm to replace this, so a new barrel it is what I want. But it would seem that just about all AK-related spare parts and even smithing know-how have all but disappeared after 2022.

>tl;dr :
Anyone on Europe know any shops that might still have 7.62 barrels lying around?
I know it's still going to need a lot of borderline blacksmithing-tier fitting to sit on the old Chinkshit, but acquiring the materials would be a good start.

On a same note, does any place still sell AK front sight posts and shit? Might as well upgrade to the AKM / 74 style open sights + get a bayo-lugs while at it.

this is one of those things where you are going to have to do your own research instead of relying on assholes on the otherside of the planet. what you need is a good local gunsmith. an actual gunsmith who owns all the specialized ak tools already to install that barrel. if you do it yourself the gun will probably function but be fucked up in someway. just pay somebody to do it right.
even if you buy a good barrel you can still fuck up the install and end up with a shit gun.
you cant count on the internet telling you cause at best we will mention some smith who isnt in your country who cant fix your shit.
that smith should be able to source a barrel. if he cant dont trust that man to repair anything.

I hate the fact I bought an in box never fired norico 1993 straight cut receiver for $200 during covid from a famiky member and got rid of it... came loaded with 2 30 rd mags (previous owner) loaded with 1993 ammo. Fuck me.
It sis have rust on the receiver but was all cosmetic. I'll try and find a picture.

Aight, thanks for the input!

You'd be shocked how helpful the four-leaf glover site has been these past couple decades, compared to many more "serious" sites. It's always worth casting my line into these waters!

And yes, I'm very aware that AK buildin' ain't even remotely the same as the AR15's Lego-building shit. I am indeed going to get the thing to a gunsmith, BUT I would like to try and acquire the barrel first myself - since no, I cannot expect smiths to do that in my country. And who knows, maybe some Anon knows a treasure trove of slavshit within EU that can import stuff.

>>65554419
Aww man, that sucks!
Hope you at least got something useful in return.

My biggest regret is missing out on a 7.62x39 Vepr with shittons of mags, replacement furniture and a red-dot sight way back in the day, when they were just 250 eurobucks a pop. I kid you not.

Wasn't worth getting rid of it at all! I got a new stock and everything for it before I got rid of it and what I got in re-turn seemed good at the time but isn't now.
Now I just have a PSA gf3 with Bulgarian steel mags. Works and functions great, BUT it isn't the one I got rid of and never will be. . Will say, the 1993 Norinco was so gassy it sent casings to the next zipcode lol

Well I'm not sure what the laws are for you in particular or if barrels are a controlled part you can't travel with. That said, if I were a betting man I'd check the Polish web or maybe even some physical shops. I mean they still have AKs in production so there's a non-zero chance they have factory new 7.62x39 barrels. No clue on the compatibility between their parts and Chinese spec but that's the best idea I've got. I don't know what's the euro equivalent of gunbroker because I'd check there first if I were you

>I would like to try and acquire the barrel first myself
the thing is ak barrels arent universal. if you buy the wrong one then its just more work for your smith or you have to rebuy. you need to communicate with whoever is actually doing the work.
even if its the correct barrel it could be in a state he cant handle like if was a takeoff holes are drilled but wont line up with the parts you took off your gun. or he doesnt have the tools to drill into the barrel. ( he should if he cant do this find another smith) still its really smith dependent.

Right on money.
The safe rule of thumb concerning AK parts is that NO AK part is drop-in compatible with another Kalash, as-is.

There are some Polak "Jack" rifle barrels floating on the online stores, which are probably my best bet... but I've heard rumors of them having a dodgy at best QA.

Also, registered gun-shops can import anything form any EU country for mere pennies, which is what I will quite likely rely on.

>I don't know what's the euro equivalent of gunbroker
Not a continent-wide one, no. Every country has its own sites, own laws even. EU membership just makes moving and trading stuff between nations very easy.

And once again, I remember how before the 2020s you could get a mint-condition 54R Maxim barrels for a price of one McMeal... but all that good stuff has now been donated to the Ukraine to fight the red menace.

...also, we can make this an a/k/ general if you guys want!

tulee halvemmaksi ostaa 'uusi' kinkkihakkuri 300-400 eurolla kuin alkaa aseseppäilemään piipunvaihdon kanssa

tl;dr don't bother

Wanhat Grandfather luvat, son.
The thing's essentially ERVA blaster, without the need to renew the licenses every 5 years.

>300-400€ for a rifle
>2026
I wish...

Breddy nice,
But like said, I'm not trashing my oldschool gun and with it the licenses. Not to mention just applying for a new license is like 150€ this day and age, which is insanity.

And yes, I've been considering that 19" -> 16" barrel conversion while at it. Maybe even 14.5 + gasblock front sights for extra tacticool + easier time with suppressors.

I actually already own a regular stumpy AK buttstock, but I for one actually prefer the extra length of pull the "NATO length" gives.

>>65554625
Dumbass, just keep the old rifle
You can use GF mags as long as you do, it's not like getting a new B licence gun in addition resets it. Barrel + gunsmith will cost way more than the 150+450 for a new one

No, you cannot use or possess high-capacity ERVA magazines for a newly purchased Category B weapon, unless you have a specific license endorsement or permit that explicitly covers that magazine, for that specific firearm.
