The nights are getting darker and longer. Which means, we could use a thread about headlamps.

Just post the things you think are good or suitable for your needs. Someone will probably tell that your choise is shit, but he is only talking out of his own a... point of view. Everyone's needs are different.

Just a good reminder: Those old Vietnam-era periscope lamps (the ones you see in the chest-rigs of soldiers) had a grand total of 8 (EIGHT! Single-digit eight) lumens. And everyone at the time thought "Yeah, that's enough to read a map in a dark jungle.

So don't get all dick-measuring contest about "my lamp can blind an aircraft pilot from 20 miles away! it has 90,000 lumens!".

One of my hobbies is finding really old obsolete electronics and fixing modernizing them. Behold!

1960's 6v Rayovac headlamp found in a cardboard box labeled 'free' on the side of the road. The 3 foot cord with alligator clips previously connected to a 1 lb battery that you wore on your belt.

Need a replacement for my NEBO duo headlight.
Lumens aren't very important but red light is crucial as I wore it during astronomy outings.

Got the switch working, replaced the bulb with a 3v LED and wired in a little rechargeable drone battery. So far it has been used for about 12 hours over a 6 month period without needing a recharge.

I got this some months ago for casual hiking. Very useful for finding things under the bed and such.

Quite fond of my Home Cheapo headlamp that some dude gave to me once

I have two oldish flashlights
Some "intrinsically safe" angle head i bought at a thrift store because it looked like the silent hill one
And a 1980s streamlight sl20 I was given from one of my dad's cop buddies
Interestingly that model of streamlight was used by the SAS on their MP5s during the iran embassy raid
Luckily I was able to find a NOS replacement switch and xenon bulbs for the streamlight on botach and a battery from a magcharger fit it perfectly too
The charger and battery for the angle head is unobtainium but c cells fit thankfully

Ruralfag here, always looking for new illuminators.
>small biolite - comfortable, well balanced, lots of settings, mediocre battery life, the composite headband starts delaminating after a few years
>kimball midwest quantum - great battery life, two modes high and low, hinged for angle viewing downward, part of the backframe snapped but the strap holds
>black diamond - weak but it was free
Any recommendations on a 10K lumen flashlight?

Nice project!

>C Cells
A single rechargeable 3.7 volt drone battery like i used should work just fine, especially if you replace the bulb with a 3v LED. If you attached the leads in parallel you could probably fit 8-10 in there, you could probably get it to run for a couple of days with the right bulb.

I do weird little projects like that all the time. I came up with a scheme to make the NERF IR viewer usable, i bought a few dollar store yard lights and replaced the LEDs with IR ones and put them all over the edge of the yard out of direct line of sight. If you use the 'daylight' setting (roughly equal to a late 1980's starlight scope with really bad resolution) everything is backlit but you don't get blinded so everything is effectively skylined.

>Looks closely
>4 C Cells
You should be able to fit 6 rechargeable 18650s in there, a 1w bulb should run for at least 36 hours.

I've had good experience wIth several Coast models.

I have a Fenix LR36R and I've found it to be very practical. I've seen people complain about the bulk but to me it feels quite reasonably sized.

What's the best decent chinklamp without that annoying self defense strobe mode and programming the flashlight by pressing a button shit.
And not so hot it needs space batteries or it'll explode or whatever.
Currently looking at the jet beam RRT series and streamlight sidewinder.
Headlamp suggestions appreciated too.

I have around a dozen Coleman gas appliances, in the fall and spring the lamps make pretty effective space heaters.

i have a bunch in different places from my service (i was a tank mechanic)
but the one i have the most handy is this energizer one
it's not particularly good but it has a red light mode

I have this one.
Surprising / unsurprising, that cheap $20 COAST 2 color lamp holds up to frequent use while the $25 Milwaukee 1 color lamp is developing a hairline crack at the hinge after light use.
>>
>>65556627
Bit hard to strap to your head but I'm sure one could with enough gumption
>>
>>65556330
I have that one. Great headlamp; the zoom is useful. Eats nicd rechargeables like it's starving (probably needs the higher voltage as it will function dimmer after the first 20 mins for hours) but non rechargeables work for a loooong time. Maybe I should mod it to make up for the voltage, idk. Too reliable to fuck with when if I need the brightness I can just buy some decent non-rechargeables. I think I've washed it a few times by accident. Ditto their flashlights.

It would go on top.
Just need a really strong chinstrap. With webbing.

That makes three people in this thread alone (myself already included) swearing by that one particular mass produced headlamp.
At this point I'm feeling motivated to buy one keep it unopened for future reference. Eventually it'll end its production run.

Fenix has a good product line, but their warranty and customer support is absolutely terrible. I have a model that they still have for sale on their website that developed an intermittent flickering. I e-mailed them about it and they wouldn't warranty the light because "the replacement parts are no longer being manufactured" even though the exact product is still sold by them on their site and on Amazon.
tldr; fuck Fenix. their warranty is garbage.

Skilhunt H150, 30 lumens for 20 hours and runs on common AAs. The perfect work light.
