The P32 is basically the old Mousegun concept perfected. That is, the tiny and small caliber pocket pistol.

.32 Auto is a decent bit more powerful than .25 Auto, and a LOT more reliable than .22LR, but the pistol is still a very small and light gun which is very easy to conceal and carry, and which doesn't have harsh felt recoil, thanks to its short-recoil action. It also has very respectable capacity for its size, with 7+1rds flush, or 8+1rds flush with a small extension.

You do trade off a lot of power compared to .380 Auto or 9mm Parabellum, but you also get such a tiny gun, and one which still handles very well for how small it is. Any .380 or 9mm which gets THIS small in size is gonna really suck to shoot.
Optionally, this would be a good backup gun for those who want that.

*8+1rds NOT flush (the extension wouldn't be flush, but also not big).

Here's one compared to a classic mousegun, the Bayard pistol here is in .25 caliber and blowback, while the Kel-Tec is in .32 caliber and short-recoil.
>>
Did keltech stop making the p32?
How much should I be paying for used?
>>
>>65557848
They stopped making he P3-AT for a number of years, but then brought it back, that was the .380 Auto variant of it. Best I know, they still make the P32 and haven't stopped, and it seems to have gotten more popular in recent times.

Would be neat to see more companies take a crack at making pocket-sized short-recoil (optionally delayed blowback) .32s though, maybe Ruger could make a variant of their LCP that way, perhaps someone can make an aluminum framed DA/SA one, too. This very specific niche has more potential and I'd like to see a bit more competition in it.
>>
>>65557806
>really suck to shoot
except the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 (in your own pic) doesn't, and BTFOs all other micro-carry mouse guns ever made in shootability due to its grip being of reasonable size dimension for all except the largest hand persons to get a decent 3-finger grasp on it.
P32 isn't 'shootable' nor is it a gunfight gun. You have to learn, train hard to shoot a P32, use its manual of arms at close self defense distances.
Bodyguard 2.0—despite its micro size—shoots like a subcompact or larger 9 mm-and-up handgun; it doesn't shoot handle or feel like a mousegun.
>>
>>65557906
>except the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 (in your own pic) doesn't
I didn't say it did, I meant compared to other pistol of the same tiny size as the P32. I'd rather say that both pistols are quite good at what they do, with each leaning more towards certain things.

The Bodyguard 2.0 I think does some significant things to let it shoot as mild as it does, the higher and longer grip allows for pretty easy control, but it IS a larger pistol than the P32 as a result of it.
Not hugely, the Bodyguard is still a rather compact and light pistol, just not AS small, but it also offers more firepower in return, so it has that going for it.
>>
>>65557906
>P32 isn't 'shootable'
I'd say that's subjective.

>nor is it a gunfight gun
What does this even mean?

>You have to learn, train hard to shoot a P32, use its manual of arms at close self defense distances.
You really have to do that with a Bodyguard 2.0 also, it's a responsibility you have when carrying a weapon on your person.
>>
>>65557922
check yes obviously anon everyone needs to train with firearms, particularly handguns (no matter their caliber/physical size dimension/mass) that are going to be carried on-person for self defense
Training, muscle memory and skill is required if you're going to CC a firearm.

>isn't
I never said you 'can't shoot' a P32. All I'm calling attention to, is that the P32 isn't as easy or natural as larger handguns.

>What does this even mean
It means a handgun (carried in self defense in public, specifically) that can reasonably and properly be used for return fire against assailants. That is, 2 or more magazines or (revolver) cylinders worth of ammunition. And in addition to that, a pistol or revolver that is large enough / has enough sight radius *or both* to be consistently aimed at ranges beyond 5 yards.
P32 isn't a pistol that you want to be using in self defense much beyond 5 yards distance. Of course, *you can* learn and train to shoot a P32 at ranges of 10 yards or more; but you wouldn't *want to* do that, or rely on a P32 to do that for you (unless you've got Miculek delusions about your pistolero skills particularly in a self defense situation). You would—in those circumstances of shooting-more-than-1-magazine-load in self defense, or *expecting on a semi-regular basis to find yourself* in such a situation—to carry a larger size handgun, one that had larger magazine capacity, bigger caliber, longer sight radius, or larger-size-equivalent ergo
P32 is really a backup gun. Also for many /k/ anons and CC'ers what they might consider to be a 'summer short-shorts gun', deep concealment gun, or ankle gun. Because of its tiny size and light weight. You wouldn't want to get into a gunfight with a P32, or be returning fire: second or third magazine-load with a P32. (The same basic prescription, goes for the smaller snubnose e.g. 5-shot revolvers) If you're expecting those kind of self defense circumstances you need more pistol / revolver.
>>
i carry a keltec .32 at my range in a fobus holster; mostly because my back hurts and i dont want any shit hanging off the side of my hip that might catch on something in case i have to snatch a gun out of some retards hand

my range is only a 20 yard indoor range; but even with the .32 i can get center shots on a paper silhouette. small trench sights on the p32 and steady pull, its not difficult to shoot accurately but im not fast with it

The bodyguard 2 isnt a mouse gun and its silly to pretend it is.
>>
>>65558017
>pretend
I'm not. (# 65557806 included it in his pic) It's *barely* larger and heavier than the P32, it's a micro compact for certain if not a 'mouse gun' whatever that means or vest pocket pistol (although BG 2.0 is invisible inside many 21st century vest pockets; times change).
Bodyguard 2.0 has caused lots of seethe and mald, for good reason. It's essentially (if we're using OP's P32 as the baseline metric of this thread discussion) the P32 of .380 ACPs:
it is the smallest conceivable engineered handgun that has yet been built around .380 ACP, just as (in a slightly different design configuration-context) the P32 is the smallest possible engineered handgun designed around .32 ACP <------Both of them are short recoil (or tilting-barrel Browning style), not straight blowback either that sets them apart from most other subcompact small semiautos of the past century. These 2 tiny handguns, each in a different respective caliber has set a standard that no other small pistols fully attain.
>>

>That is, 2 or more magazines or (revolver) cylinders worth of ammunition.
Not bad to have a spare reload or two if you're willing to carry it, but that's amounting to about 10 to 20 shots total for a gun like this.

>And in addition to that, a pistol or revolver that is large enough / has enough sight radius *or both* to be consistently aimed at ranges beyond 5 yards.
It's not THAT hard to shoot these small guns and hit a man-sized target center mass at 10yds, if you've never shot before it'll take a bit of practice, but it's doable by the average person if they try and have some prior pistol habit, this is NOT that long a distance.

Mind also that you may not NECESSARILY want to go for a sight picture depending on how a situation unfolds. The sighs are there and you need to learn how to use them, obviously, but for self-defense, it's possible that it happens so close that it's actually not necessary, and that speed is more important, whereupon you can instead reliably point shoot. (Massad Ayoob thinks that's fake, but Massad Ayoob says a lot of bullshit.)

FBI statistics say 7yds or less is what's by far most common, and in defensive gun use incidents where shots are actually fired, they most usually end in a single shot, with five or more shots being rarer outliers.
Of course, you'd want more than just one shot, and there's all kinds of benefits to have more firepower and be capable at more range, but you're pretty unlikely to get into an actual shooting exchange, and even more unlikely one where you'd need to reload.
Smaller handguns like these are a popular choice because they are realistically actually going to cut it in 98 or more cases out of 100, without being a burden.
>>
>>65557965
>You wouldn't want to get into a gunfight with a P32
Gunfights are pretty fucking rare unless you work as a cop on the street, or you're a gangbanger warring with another group of gangbangers. (The average gunshot victim in the U.S has been arrested 11 times).

The average defensive gun use scenario isn't people getting into a shootout, you are far more likely to draw a gun on someone who comes at you with a knife or something, and then they flee, you shoot them and then they either flee or their collapse from their injury.

>If you're expecting those kind of self defense circumstances you need more pistol / revolver.
OBVIOUSLY, but it's not exactly very realistic for a guy who works at an office or auto shop in a midwest town, and with no criminal history, to get into that kind of scenario.

If perhaps you lived and worked uncomfortably close to a gangland place, then I can absolutely see why something like a smaller gun may not feel like enough, then a Glock 19 or M&P Shield or something may give you a lot more peace of mind (and hey, they are still pretty small).
But otherwise, what people are more realistically concerned with is muggers, crackheads, rapists, etc.
>>
>>65558173
>most common
Yes agreed with mention itt about it being "not that long a distance," typical average distance at which the vast majority s.d. events occur, and why these smaller subcompact guns have become so popular among CC'ers (to some extent always have/were).
This isn't a discussion about self defense CC tactics, skillsets or how to shoot / marksmanship. Thread title = Pocket Pistols i.e. discussion of small, below-subcompact size handguns. Topic is a particular size class of pistol : tiny guns

>unlikely to get in a shooting exchange
Again ---------------------- >>65558006 <-----------------------*
Yes I know. We get it. Got that. We know. Concur
That's not what the post^^ is about. It's about tiny size handguns that can barely be grasped with 2 fingers, not being optimal. <---That is the core point.

Get a handgun (revolver, semiauto) you can grasp securely with three fingers.
Want to train yourself to defend yourself, carry in public with a "mouse" gun? Go ahead, enjoy.
It's better to have a handgun you can grasp securely in a *stressful unpredictable self defense situation*.
(And it's certainly a better type/size of gun, for a newcomer to firearm and marksmanship to learn and train with)
>>
>>65557982
>my range is only a 20 yard indoor range; but even with the .32 i can get center shots on a paper silhouette
Woah there, Jerry Miculek, didn't you read anon's post saying that's almost impossible?!

>>65557987

Not an unreasonable thought if you know there's people around who have pitbulls, but I also know of incidents of pitbulls going berserk and taking multiple shots of 9mm and .40S&W. When those things lose their mind, they can sometimes be SCARILY resilient.

>that can barely be grasped with 2 fingers
That's gonna get into subjectivity again, hands vary. For some, they can get a pretty steady grip on a small pistol like a P32, for others, they'd want one of those +1 magazines with the pinky extension.

Obviously, if you have larger hands than average, the P32 may be particularly difficult to deal with. Women have smaller hands, so they may be more easily comfortable with smaller grips, and a .32 will recoil a lot less than a .380 or 9mm, while being a much better choice than .22 or .25
>>
>>65558206
So do you carry a 10mm or .45 in case of pits? There's SOME compact .45 options, but not a lot for 10mm, I believe.

I don't have large hands. I can't get more than 2 fingers on the P32 grip.
It's a great tiny _size_ pistol. Not something I'd rely on in self defense either as primary carry or even as a backup pistol though
(if I was to carry a .32 ACP-chambered pistol it'd be a larger dimension one, such as the picrel that I own)
>>
>>65558209
(no pits in my A.O. so not my concern) I think a 9 mm would be good enough, or even a decent .380 like Browning BDA or Bodyguard 2.0
.45 ACP when you want to be sure
>>
>>65558212
Why do you need more than 2 fingers? You should be training your grip strength if thats an issue for you.
>>
>>65558227
Because I like my hands to grip a handgun firmly and properly, not gimped. Never liked any 'cut-down-grip' subcompacts either. I do me, you do you.

>'grip strength'
For a gimped grip? u du u It's not about "strength" at all whatsoever.
In an unpredictable stressful self defense situation that's an additional variable simply not worth the trouble (or having a pistol that's 0.5 cm smaller/shorter, than the next size up that allows a firm grip)
Plenty of very small concealable light weight handguns available on today's market, that also allow a full, or very very close to it, 3-finger grip. It's not the 1930s any more (where all you had was the baby browning or chief's special to select from)
>>
>>65558227

From what I've seen most dogs(shitbulls included) will stop being aggressive when shot with any duty caliber handgun. OTOH actually putting them down can be bizarrely hard sometimes. There's an OIS video floating around out there(got banned for posting it before) where a cop doing entry on a house runs into two pits. Guys got a 12g and goes through multiple shots on each before they actually stop moving around and doing shit. They likely werent much of a threat after the first shots but we're still ambulatory. If you want to definitively stop one then a rifle or shotgun is the right choice. That all being said I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from carrying more gun. I love my G21 for cooler weather or when concealment is less of a priority.

The neo p3-at is an entirely different gun, the second coming of the grendel P-10 more than a revamp of the original.
Currently the P-32 is the last of the old fashioned kel tec pistols still in production.
Likely because it has a captive audience, no one has tried to go for it's admittedly small slice of the market

They're more coherent than they want you to believe. They more than anyone can tell a real threat from someone they can mess with, since they go through this every day for years. Years, potentially decades of built-up experience doing immediate ocular patdowns of every person you come across living on the streets. Yelling at demons in your head can't stop you from noticing a gun.

I would be EXTREMELY surprised if the P32 was their biggest seller, because even if they have one of the best .32 pocket pistols, that's still a niche market segment today. Most people still want .380 and 9mm for compact carry guns, which is why Kel-Tec makes compact carry handguns in those calibers.

Kel-Tec has long made 9mm carbines and 5.56mm rifles, most probably one of those is what they sell the most of. Also a lot of .22LR pistols and rifles, those are probably also more popular.

>if you're going through the hassle to carry a gun, why would you specifically carry a gun that is so limited?
Personally? Because there's no actual good way for a normal-sized handgun to be carried on the human body, save for a holster on a plate carrier. Everything else is either too much of a hassle or dangerous. Shoot your balls off, shoot your spine and cripple yourself, shoot your foot ect. All just because I'm too scared to walk into the grocery store for 15 minutes without running out of ammo? I traditionally leave a 9mm/45 in the car and carry a small baby gun if I absolutely *have* to.

It's more of a convenience thing and a 'don't be a pussy' thing for me. I guess if John Wick attacks me in the parking lot of a Piggly Wiggly, I'll have to reconsider my habits. If you're in actual danger with regularity, you might want to consider something bigger. A rifle, even. But for the average person, a wee lil baby gun is probably more than they'll ever have to use anyway.

Weird, they do in my slim straights, are you a manlet by chance? I could see double dipping there causing some issues with the larger pocket guns
>>
>>65557906
By 2.0 is striker fired. I want my pocket gun to be DAO. Pocket carry is already sketchy, I don’t want a light trigger in such a cramped space where a fumbled draw could spell disaster.
>>
>>65557965
Most of us are who carry have a break contact mindset. We don’t expect a gun fight because that is extremely rare with non officer involved shootings. The vast majority of defensive gun uses are solved by simply presenting a pistol. It stands to reason that 5-7 rounds of whatever would cover most of the other cases. More power to those who carry a proper gun, but when you’ve done that for years and nothing happens, nothing even comes close to happening…you start to carry a smaller and lighter pistol. For me it’s a 32 j frame, but sometimes it’s a p32.
>>
>>65560715
>Most of us are who carry have a break contact mindset.

here it comes.
>>
>>65560698
I'll be right back, gonna sink my 8 ball
>>
>>65558030
It’s not though. For me, a mouse gun needs to be safe without a holster. J frame, p32, naa minis, etc. It makes these guns extremely versatile. A tiny gun with a light trigger is just not a good combo.
>>
>>65560715
>Most of us are who carry have a break contact mindset.
Sounds like a good way to get shot. I stopped pocket carrying when shit started going down in my personal life and I started receiving personal threats. Wild how quickly reasonably expecting that you might actually need to use the thing for self defense will have you carrying more gun. Pretty sure there's a lesson in there or something.
>>65560729
Carrying a pocket gun with a heavy trigger and no holster is less safe than carrying one with a lighter trigger and a pocket holster. I just don't see a reason to go with the heavier triggers. It's either redundant or you're doing stupid shit in the first place.
>>
>>65560729
>i want a gun thats hard to shoot in a tiny caliber

great idea. please tell me about your point shooting skills.

I carry a Ruger LCR in .327 Federal Magnum , its small and compact while also being powerful yet weirdly controllable and not awful on the recoil. The lighter bullet weights offer less felt recoil while providing excellent power. Even in a snubby we are talking 100 grain hollow point @ 1250 FPS on average per my own Chrony testing with Buffalo bore.

Just for fun I ran some 1980's Czech Euro spec 7.65 Browning (.32 ACP) through it and averaged 700 FPS exactly. Of course .32 ACP in a .327 mag revolver is always going to be ass due to the cylinder travel plus gap but it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be.
>>
>>65560738
Sir, they're abysmal, sir!
>>
>>65557806
>Any .380 or 9mm which gets THIS small in size is gonna really suck to shoot.
That's not a consideration at all for pocket pistols. The only two requirements are that it has to fit in your pocket, and actually be lethal. You don't do heroics with these. You blast the nigger at the gas pump who told you to pull out your wallet from 0-7 yards.
>>
>>65560897
Point shooting is very important, more important than a lot of people will let on, and if you can, running away is preferable. However, you don't know how such a situation could unfold, you might not realistically be able to flee, what if you get cornered? What if someone is trying to grab your wife or your kid, gonna just bolt and leave them?

Being able to make decently accurate shots at 10yds if you have to is worth practicing for. You don't need to put holes in holes or anything, and it's obviously unlikely to play out just like in a movie, but if the difference between you shooting the enraged pitbull or your son hinges on you being able to NOT miss by a foot, perhaps a LITTLE bit of practice is actually worth it.

How does it compare to a snub .38 Special?
>>
>>65562334
Slightly lighter and smaller bullets, but they go a LOT faster. .327 Federal Magnum is like .357 Magnum on a strict but not unhealthy diet, it's slimmer and doesn't pack QUITE the same punch, but it still hits with similar authority, and in a cylinder size where you could normally only fit 5rds of .357, you could fit 6rds of .327, and so on.
>>
>>65562927
Ok but (should've made clearer) how does it feel shoot compared to .38 Special
What is the perceived, real recoil difference between .327 and .38 in a similar-size/weight snub nose.

>pocket-sized short-recoil (optionally delayed blowback) .32s
Will never happen and has never happened. Off the top of my head, the only non-blowback .32s I can think of are the P-32 and the old Remington Model 51. Literally two guns and the rest are all blowback.

>>65561716
Where do you think you are? What else would they be?
>>
>>65564674
>Will never happen and has never happened.
The Kel-Tec P32 is short-recoil.
>>
>>65564674
Oh, you mean other ones. Seecamp did the annular chamber ring on their pocket pistols, which is sort of like a delaying mechanism. It kinda works for small cartridges like these.
>>
>>65564728
Which is why I mentioned it. A measly two guns over the 127 years of the cartridge is essentially nothing.

>>65564736
>Seecamp
I mean, they say it does something, but I've never seen any numbers on it. I'm inclined to believe it does nothing.

I love .32 and wish more and better guns were chambered in it. Honestly, I also wish it would stop using those awful pressures. My project for 2027 is to develop .32 Super by basically doing to .32 ACP what .38 Super did to .38 ACP. Just going to put a bunch of hot powder in there and juice it up to ~30,000 psi. Going to be using some P-32s with a bunch of different springs and some brass weights to tune the slide velocity. Then I bother my engineer cousin to help me with the CAD models.

My goal is to be able to pitch a modification kit for the P-32 to someone. I'll consider it a success if a real gun company actually lets me pitch the gun in person and if Buffalo Bore finally answers my email questions about MOQs.
>>
>>65564868
>.32 ACP what .38 Super
What's needed is a new design .32 Super cartridge that has a *rimless* case.
That is what all of the .32 ACP proponents and P32lovers, actually want. (Including those that want a .32 version of the new Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0)
This rimless .32 Super will have almost the same case length (perhaps a millimeter or two longer) as the existing .32 ACP
7.65Ă—18mm (or 19mm)
>>
>>65560422
>much better options exist
Do they though? The P32 that I bought a few years ago is worse in pretty much every conceivable way besides weight
>>
>>65564674
Frommer Stop and the savage 1907 are two more non-blowback .32 pistols.
There's also those french police arexs (this surprised me, could have sworn they were blowback) and arguably the Beretta pico through the factory .32 barrel.
Really, the only place it makes sense is in a gun like the P-32.
>>
>>65565234
>Frommer Stop and the savage 1907 are two more non-blowback .32 pistols
Correct. Around the turn of the 20th century. FN introduced the M1900 (first gun designed for the chambering) in 1899.
.32 ACP was the 'new hotness' for medium/small size service pistols the first couple decades of 20th century.

A friend and I had separate similar incidents. He did a full draw to get the crackhead to fuck off. All I did was pull jacket back and put my hand on my gun. Ray Ray immediately became as polite as a southern gentleman; before doing a 180. I was OWB carrying a sub compact striker slop, Springfield xd. I was 22 and fell hard for the marketing.

Kel-Tec is a fly by night company that makes toys for fedora tippers. As is NAA ftm
Firearms are tools.
>>
>>65564868
>I'm inclined to believe it does nothing.
It does a LITTLE bit.

The nightmare example is the old Kimball .30 Carbine pistols, where that shit may as well be regular blowback and it's gonna come apart on you in fairly short order.
The conservative example is the old Fritz-Mann .25 Auto pocket pistols, where it probably does delay the slide just a smidge. Not critically (and those pistols tend to bulge brass), but an example of one not being a sheer handbomb.

The FG42s sorta does this in a way, in that the chambers are shaped to not follow the taper of 7.92mm Mauser, rather being perfectly cylindrical, which forces the cases to stretch out just slightly to match.
That is a locked breech gun operating on a piston, however, and it's more used for dwell-time margins there.

I figure for a .32 Auto pocket pistol, it can be used to delay the action just a tad, not like a proper mechanical delay operation, but enough just for some margin.

Kel-Tecs are purchased by fedora tipping gash dilaters. It's a fly by night ripoff operation for the video game generation. They are garbage. People who learned their lesson after purchasing 1 Kel-Tec product, have moved on in their firearms lives to real guns.
Kel-Tec had its 15 minutes.

* Name one (1) law enforcement agency or military service that has adopted a Kel-Tec product as standard equipment. *

P32 is much smaller and lighter, with a lighter rack, and the same capacity (or more with a tiny extension). Also you don't have the shitty fragile decocker like on the PPK.
>>
>>65562334
Not even worth comparing. .327 is a retarded meme caliber. A moderately weaker and more expensive .357 magnum. .38 spc absolutely mogs it for snubbie use since you can stuff heavy wadcutters in the .38 with an anemic powder load and keep adequate penetration while having very low recoil.
>>
>>65569064
My question was about how the *recoil* and shooters handling of the .327 revolver, specifically compares to .38
Idgaf about the target impact effectiveness/data (comparison of the two rounds)
