So I humbly come to /k/ asking for advice. I live in California and need a nice work horse battle rifle for shtf, home defense and plinking (mostly plinking). Seeing as my options for something in 5.56 are either a crippled gun that I can't reload easily, an ugly uncomfortable monstrosity or mini-14 I decided to try my hand at finding a SKS. I found a few listed online that might ship to my FFL but honestly I know next to nothing on the SKS varieties. I'm assuming a Yugo is better than a Chinese and while I've heard some good things about Norincos I'm not well versed on them. What advice can you guys give me on which version is better, what to watch out for and how to proper inspect a gun if and when I receive it?
>>65559133SKS is retarded Just get a bullet button AR or some other featureless rifle. I’m from WA, the Dark Storms Industry AR has a fixed magazine so everything else is the same as an AR, but you have to feed it with specific stripper clips through the ejection port, if you want your stripper clip fix it’s a much better rifle than a piece of shit commie garbage SKS. Plus darkstorm will convert it back to a normal AR if it ever comes legal in your area or you move out of state for just the price of shipping IIRC. The stripper clip feeding is fun actually and you can 3d print them, just Velcro one or two to the buttstock and you’re golden
>>65559133M1A.>but-M1A.
>>65559154So bullet buttons are banned in California. The only most rifles now have juggernaut mag release which means having to separate your upper and lower receiver in order to drop mags. Imo it seems stupid, inconvenient and a good way to get your rifle more dirty while shooting in shitty conditions. The other option is featureless where you either get that weird shaped pistol grip that may or may not be illegal or use those dumb ass guards that make it so you can't use your thumb to grip. SIG actually has a better guard grip that gives your thumb a "cubby" to rest in and their M400 is nice enough but that's as good as featureless ARs in CA go but it's slightly out of my price range at the moment. Also if I'm being honest I have a commie gun fetish and the SKS gets me hard.
>>65559178Are they good now? I heard Springfield might not suck as much anymore.
>>65559190M1A's are gtg, and there are many other benefits of a M1A. >7.62 Real Fucking NATODepending on area a .30Hate can mean the difference between life and death, being able to punch through most urban things is great and the ability to reach out outside of the leftist demon hives is also great. >sights and triggers The M1/M14 is hands down the best military trigger ever adopted. >sightsWith practice you can fucking ring gongs 600 yards away all day. >magazines Unlike the "scary assslut rifles" the M1A has no bullet button, it's a straight lock and lock magazine, and this means you can covertly obtain 20 rounders and instantly switch.>lookThe M1A to the uninformed looks like a safe woodstocked hunting rifle and not a ebil child killing (though if it worked for planned parenthood it would be ok) AR15 and dosen't kill the ergonomics by stupid ass fins.
>>65559133If I had to bring a rifle to California it would probably be my SKS. I wouldn't modify my ARs, and I wouldn't want to modify my M1A. M1 garand is a close second. >>65559178>>65559190I've owned two M1As, one was made in the 2010s, a loaded model, the other a national match was made in 1993 during the "golden age" both were fine rifles. I still have the NM. Most of the hate towards the M14 are from people who have never handled one, imo.>>65559248This guy gets it

>>65559133yugos are the worst SKS. the night sights have long since lost their glow, the grenade launcher adds weight/makes it front heavy, and the barrels arnt chrome lined. they are only neat because their are weird. Norninco SKS are pretty high quality since china still loved the SKS after everyone else had moved on to AKs. If you do get a SKS, get the stripper clips, chest rig(look up modifications to make it more comfortable), and cleaning kit that fits in the stock. And to take advantage of the adjustible sights, get one of those little civil war style brass range finders. Over all it's a pretty nice set up. I love my SKS. The other option I would recommend for a cuckstate like cali would be a lever gat with a side saddle and bandolier, a Garand with ammo pouches, or a bolt action like the Ruger American II, or a Tikka if you dont mind the price. The bolt on Tikkas is so ridiculously smooth it's almost as fast as shooting a semi-auto.
>>65559783>SKS or lever actionIn cuckifornia your choices for long rifle owners is be a cowboy or be a commie.
>>65559783Most Yugos are banned because muh muzzle grenade launcher. CA specifically banned them because lmao liberals. Basically every SKS is ridiculously expensive and harder to find than any AR or AK. Just buy a Juggernaut Tactical or Sparrow Systems grip for your featureless AR or AK. At least you can replace those rifles fairly easily if they get confiscated by the PD for any reason.
>>65559841ya sucks to be them, but at least the options have sovl. Id go SKS if you want the whole chest rig 200rd set-up and levergat if you want something you could hunt with and depending on the model, could be easily upgraded with a scope, light, etc. >>65559845did not know that, but thats just another mark against yugos then I guess. eh I figure that if youre gonna be limited, get something cool/interesting within the limitations, dont get a cucked AR/AK, even if they make more sense price wise.
>>65559133What kind of insane logic is going through your head that makes you think that an SKS is somehow gonna be better than a Mini-30?
>>65559178The kind of man that uses an M1A for plinking would be too rich to post here.
>>65559919Because it is in fact better. Might as well get a cheap AR as get a shiti 30
Mini 14M1AOr if you're feeling fucky590a1
>>65559133ignore literally every other retard in here.the assault weapons ban is going to go away in June. Just get a featurless AR. Buy all the stocks, pistols grips, and flash hiders you want with them and just keep the parts in a box. you will have an AR with a mag you can change quickly, and in like 9 months you will be able to just put the parts on your Ar and have a normal rifle.
>>65559133State compliant lowers for ARs or BRN-180s have gotten popular for the "states" with an awb. No pistol grip allows for detachable mags.
>>65559919nogunz spotted
>>65560434This thing is actually pretty cool looking
>>65559962>rifle>rifle>shotgun One of these is not like the other
>>65560910That's he prefaced the suggestion with>Or if you're feeling fucky
>>65559133Is that a lamp shade on his head?
>>65560434I like this. A lot.
>>65559133Get the SKS. SKS is love SKS is life and honestly pretty great. The chink ones are honestly pretty good just get one of those.
>>65559133The answer for california, now and always, is the m1 garand. Buy from the civilian marksman program. The sks is a cool gun, but its not a “battle rifle”, and the 8 rounds .30-06 >>>>> 10 rounds 7.62x39 for every scenario. Its essentially a cheat code for CA because boomers get extra protections. or>>65559178>>65559424>>65559248Yep, you all are based.
>>65559133Get a wood stock plain jane Mini 14. No gay shit has to be done to it, take make it legal or whatever in Caliland
>>65559133Just get an ar15 and get out of state parts and then not comply
>muh SHTFfuck off
Everybody who is recommending the M1A has never actually owned one and shot it much. The M1A is an inaccurate garbage rod that should only be owned by folks who want to complete a collection of US service rifles or something similar. There is literally no other good reason to spend money on the absolute piece of shit that is the M1A.The trigger? Meh.Accuracy? 2MOA on a good day with match ammo if you're lucky.Want to keep your zero? NEVER EVER break it down. Seriously. The M1A will lose zero if you break it down. What gun that isn't garbage does that? Oh, right. No gun that isn't garbage does that.Want to clean and maintain it? You need specialized tools. Pic related.Did you over lube, under lube, use the wrong kind of lube? It's going to have issues running, either failure to feed or failure to extract. Those very simple bent pieces of sheet metal they call a magazine? Stupid expensive if they've got that springfield roll mark on them, and not much better without.Finicky as fuck magazine insertion to boot.Picky as fuck about what ammo it wants to eat, function with, and be any sort of "accurate" with at the same time.Fuck the M1A. It's garbage. Don't waste your money on one.
>>65560434This is so absurdly pretty , all other AR-15s and M16s can go kick rocks
>>65560434Can't buy em anymore.
>>65565503Do YOU own an M1A?. Those tools are only needed for the gas cylinder, and really only the wrench is needed if your hands are too weak. Those other tools are there to scrape carbon. You can do it with literally anything else. >inaccurateskill issue, are you one of the faggots in this video by chance?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U11URice_cM&t=184s>never ever break it downI've done this many times and it's literally never lost zero>lubeliterally not that hard, just apply enough mobile one to where its barely visible on the sliding parts. Perhaps you are one of the retards who has visible globs of grease on the wrong parts of their rifles. >magazinesgo ahead and check prices for FAL mags now. Oh you want new FAL mags? Spend 45 bucks on a DSA piece of shit that's not going to work, spend 60 bucks on some ran through milsurp mags that may work. >picky about ammoliterally no issues with any kind of M80 ball level of ammo, let alone match.
>>65559133Anyone know if the SCR is back in production yet?
>>65567535I do.
