How does a FN FAL DMR compare with the Mk14 EBR?
>>
>>65563815
not needing the goofy ebr chassis feels like a step in the right direction
>>
>>65563823
The EBR chassis fucks hard and I will not tolerate any slander towards it
>But it's bad
Yeah but it looks cool, which is what really matters
>>65563815
I guess a little less miserable but still trash. Just buy a G3 goddamnit
>>
>>65563815
>tilting bolt
>loose dust cover
Shiggy
>>
>>65563815
>FN FAL
>DMR
just don't
>>
>>65564035
Why didnt they just put a side rail on the receiver like on the ak
>>
>>65563829
>>But it's bad
>Yeah but it looks cool, which is what really matters
I have to admit, that's certainly in the M14 spirit.
>>
>>65564088
The Belgians have a bit more pride than the Russians anon
>>
>>65564110
Well a "somewhat awkward" scope rail is better than an "objectively terrible" scope rail
>>
>>65563815
Both inferior to an accurized G3, which itself still pales in comparison to a quality AR10.
>>
>>65563815
both are suboptimal. you can make them work with enough modification but it's still more trouble than a proper AR10 (applies for G3 too)
>>
>>65563815
Shit, the wooden frame of the original M14 is the greatest battle rifle that was devised in the Cold War that sticks to the greatest battle implement ever designed. The FAL is susceptible to communism on the battlefield while the M14 and the M1 simply annihilate communists wherever they are used. The M14s only fault is that it isn't a Garand
>>
>>65564280
M14 is big gay. As in
>voted for George McGovern gay
>>
>>65563815
What is that camo pattern?
>>
>>65564307
Skill issue, I'm calling HUAC on your ass if you slander the garand or her retarded cousin
>>
>>65563823
>not needing the goofy ebr chassis
it sorta did, it just never got it. free float handguards do exist, but none of the formal FAL DMR upgrades (Irish, Brazilian, plus small numbers by Canadian and NZ SOF back in the say) ever actually used them, mostly just using off the shelf DSA shit. A one-and-done drop-in chassis might have kept it around for a little longer, or convinced other ex-FAL users to upgrade it (probably not the Australians since they were early adopters of the SR25, but the bongs didn't have a DMR outside of UKSF until 2009, hence the goofy L86 shenanigans).
>>65564035
Extreme duty rails are rock solid when properly installed. Its not a long term solution, but it wont be the reason you miss.
>>
>>65563815
M14
>piece of shit
>ebr more or less fixed it
FAL
>3.4 r/hr, not great not terrible
>never got fixed because it worked out of the box

I'm not sure that we'll ever be able to answer the question until someone chucks a few tens of millions of dollars at the FAL in order to improve it. My guess would be that if this ever happened, you'd have a comparable result: it would work nearly as well as the AR-10, would weigh more, and would be a few thousand USD more expensive for the same result. So yeah, comparable.
>>
>>65563815
It doesn't. The FAL is a 2.5 - 3.5 MOA gun even with a magnified optic on it.
>>
>>65564088
You'd need a tilting mount for disassembly. Also not really any room for one.

The FAL dust cover doesn't wobble much if at all and the pic rail ones can usually be cranked down to have no play whatsoever, I don't know why people keep repeating that point. It's not held in place at the front and back only like the AK cover but has rails it slides into like the bolt carrier. How do you propose to make these stripper clip covers work if it's gonna move around?

Here's 5 rounds I shot with mine at 150, with irons. That's roughly a 2 in group

My money is on the M14 outperforming the FAL as a DMR. Though the EBR chassis doesn't provide a ton of benefit in terms of accuracy compared to a good bedded stock.

To each their own man! The M-1 Garand is so much fun to shoot. Add a 20 rnd mag, scope, and a stock system that enhances the shooting. I bet that I could pay off the gun by renting it out to shooters. That gun is some real life call of duty shit. I'll level with you on the thing I hate. It's accuracy is shotty. It's going to have more area accuracy than target value accuracy. But it's still hot shit that will eat wind and a lot of material way better than 556 past 150 yards. Both guns are too old. The FN appears to have better accuracy. I just think the M-14 is more sexy. They're just for fun at the range.
>>
>>65565772
>accuracy is shotty
For next time, it's shoddy. I mean it politely not a "gotcha!" kind of way
>>
>>65563815

Is the FAL barrel free floated in your instance?
The FAL will be quite a bit lighter, but if we don't have the barrel floated we're not getting anywhere
>>65563829
Mother of God does it, but turning the M14 into a crew serve is its own reward
>>65564201
>accurized
Fug a normal G3 is nearing 1MOA with M118LR, I would imagine 1 MOA firm out of a G3/SG1 and sub-MOA out of a PSG-1 or a MSG-90
>>
>>65564974
>3.4 r/hr
... huh? radians per hour?
>>
>>65565849
I think he's measuring group sizes in Rontgen. It would require converting another unit like cm and taking atmospheric radiation readings but it's probably doable
>>
>>65565723
Well the rings you see there are 50mm, so a hair under 2 inches. I'd say 2 in is not too far off

It's more the ammo than me. Those were IIRC Nosler B-tip 150gr handloads. Yes, it's closer to a 3 MOA gun with surplus ammo, but people forget FALs like good ammo better like many other rifles

DSA actually built this turd for the SASS trials back in the early 2000s. To the surprise of absolutely no one, it came in dead last behind KAC and the other assorted AR-10 pattern rifles in the competition.
>>
>>65567730
How much of it was accuracy and how much was it being an early DSA piece of shit
>>
>>65567740
>an early DSA piece of shit
DSA's early rifles were the only ones that were ever worth a shit, back when LMT was making their receivers.
