Please post interesting/weird/ugly break actions. I'm designing a sci-fi gun and I need inspiration. All I'm finding is generic double barrels. I want something unique.
>>65564642
>>65564684
>>65564688There. derringers opening in pretty much every direction possible.
>>65564642>break actions>sci-fi gunPerhaps it would help if you explained more about this gun you are designing and why it needs to be a break action. They are pretty far from hi-tech, they are basically one rung above muskets.
>>65564694It's like a plasma/energy gun. You break it open and load a battery in place of a bullet.
>>65564642Ithaca M66. it's a single shot lever action break open shotgun.
>>65564693I forgot about this design too where you slide the barrels forward. I've shot one of these before. They're silly.
>>65564700The COP .357 Derringer might be a nice modern design for that if each battery is a single shot.
>>65564693Post one that opens to the left then
>>65564715fuck. you got me there lol.
>>65564712For multiple shots there is the Kaltec P50 which opens up to accept a 50rd P90 magazine and has a collapsible stock to function as a heavy pistol or light carbine. Just replace the magazine with a battery.
>>65564700Does the battery "bullet" need to plug directly into the back of the energy "chamber", or can it go anywhere? You would get a lot of design space to work with if you can load the battery into a place that is impossible with a traditional break action firearm. If you go down that route, I'd also impose some more design limitations like requiring a very prominant conduit between the battery and the barrel, and throw in the need to place some bulky electrical systems *somewhere* on the gun, which should lead to pretty distinctive looking energy weapon designs that make sense in universe.
But will it be cooler than:
>>65564763Maybe when the barrel breaks open, a little battery slot like picrel pops out where you can insert the battery? I want these guns to give off a sense of being very cheap and shitty. Not flat out disposable, but like when the worthless grunt carrying it dies, the military isn't gonna be scrambling to get their equipment back.

>>65564798I think the idea of using a break action is restricting yourself out of too many cool yet realistic ideas. Unless it has to be break action specifically, there's a lot of ways something like aa batteries or whatever could be inserted into a device.
Plus, a break action exists to reliably open and close the breech. Theres no need for that for something that uses batteries unless its to protect it from water.Any disposable but reliable military gun needs>easy to reload>ideal if weapon can remain aimed at enemy during reload>preferably not expose insides to environmentwhich leads me to some sort of slide/snap lock mechanism between power pack and gun, and the power pack being a closed system that transfers power solely through magnets- if you want coolant, then something like a one way port on the gun that stabs through a membrane on the power pack to draw the coolant out.
>>65564857Huh. Could you draw a diagram or something of what you're describing? I can't visualize it very well in my head.
>>65564834
>>65564866
>>65564866might have the schizo edge here...
>>65564873
>>65564642A four shot, .357 derringer
>>65564864I cant draw but imagine an iv bag being spiked, now imagine the spike being an integral part of the magazine that mates to a connector within the magazine well, and by mating to it, it pierces an internal membrane that allows for coolant or scifiesium liquid energy to flow from your magazine to gun. I changed my mind on the spike being part of the gun as that seems flimsy so its just a durable one way connector- maybe the magazine has a self clean chamber as it pushes through to activate the magazines membrane spike. You can then have magnets, kinda like wireless charging for the actual energy or additional energy transfer. For the actual physical movement done by the operator, think of any battery pack on a power tool or even just a mag change on an ar or whatever, the internal mechanism as I described it should be fairly resistant to outside gunk especially if it runs off magnets alone.
To add, you can also make the spike spring loaded so when it pierces the membrane, the soldier gets tactile feedback on if the magazine is good or not. No slight clunk=faulty magazine.
do a break action gun but with metalstorm firing mechanism. just a tube of stacked bullets that are fired electronically. >insanely high rate of fire, >gun can be any shape you want, bullets just need to be in a tube/barrel>any caliber you want >as many barrels as you want>barrels can be as long as you want
>>65564700So this is primarily about aesthetics?https://youtu.be/LSy1JQn4NWM?si=OYtNCRuSw0vuSCf8&t=49
>>65564642not a break action but the trapdoor mechanism is cool
>>65564700https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCLkBWsMX4Ei like the Cerberus from PlanetSide 2(there's also a powerful pump action shotgun in the game that appears to be loaded with multiple of these same energy cells in a tube mag because it depletes a cell with each shot)
The Hoenig rotary break action is one of the sexiest actions ever made IMO.https://gundigest.com/rifles/hunting-rifles/two-of-a-kind-hoenig-rotary-round-action-double-rifle
>>65565431Jesus, I only grabbed the first best one for the animation, but actually watching that gameplay footage further, the guy playing actually fucking sucks at the game. GOD that's bad gameplay.
>>65565476Sexy as hell but I fail to see how it works (and why?)
>>65564857The typical way to handle water resistant connectors is to have two power contacts and two sense contacts, with the power contacts only becoming energized when the battery detects a very specific resistance across the sense contacts. Too much resistance means the contacts are dirty or the battery isn't seated properly, and too little resistance means the battery is wet.
>>65565967Anon. There's an article linked. It goes into great detail about how the action works and why it was made.
>>65566087>It goes into great detail about how the action worksI’ve read it, are you going to pretend that you actually visualize clearly how it works?
>>65566505Its blackpowder so the recoil is going to be easy baby mode.
>>65566505>>65566724Their revolver is even more comedic
>>65566087Youtube it bro and stop bitching
>>65564876It really is just a hand gesture that idiots do when they want to look profound.
may i suggest taking a look at the alofs? it's a conversion for break actions to load them from a magazine. this animation isn't great for showing it but it gets the idea across
>>65564735I'll take a P90 over that retarded looking shit. The only bullpup that is even acceptable but always ignored
>>65564715
>>65564642Alofs shotgun. Pic is actually a modern repo the Auslof.
>>65566724Blackpowder doesn't let you get as exciting velocities as smokeless, but a hefty charge of powder and lead will add up regardless. There's a reason that many countries made lighter carbine loads for lighter weight carbines in those eras, because recoil could actually be very punishing.
>>65564873Goddamn sexual is what that is.
>>65568170jej
>>65564642What about replaceable barrels? Nothing says >>65564798>a sense of being very cheap and shitty. Not flat out disposablelike just clicking the whole barrel off, tossing it, and clicking on a new one. Forget break action, just snap the cheap plastic (space plastic to resist firing) barrel off and click a new one in place! Maybe you get miltiple shots with the replaceable barrel because the components are in series in the barrel, sort of like that Metal Storm project. At this point, we are almost making a Slaught-O-Matic from Cyberpunk. A cheap plastic pistol not meant to be reloaded, and bought from a vending machine. https://cyberpunk.fandom.com/wiki/Budget_Arms_Slaught-O-Matic Nothing says "disposable grunt soldier" like a "disposable gun".
>>65564702Cool. Can you open it up for us?
>>65567519They got some "interesting" stuff for sure
I got this one because it makes me think of Roberto the stabbin' robot from Futurama
>>65569504Honestly, a single 12-Gauge shotgun barrel, even if muzzle loaded, feels like it'd have some limited appeal (even if mostly as a toy).
>>65569264sure. it's nothing too special, the lever just opens it.
>>65569573It looks like they grafted a Winchester lever to a break-action gun, which I suppose is pretty much exactly what it is.
>>65569573>>65564702Nice rug, also.
>>65569610yeah>>65569612thanks
>>65564895I want it bigger. Make it in. 454 & 410 Shotshell. With 6 inch barrels.
>>65569642If you made it a dedicated .410 Bore gun, smoothbore and no doubling with .45 Colt or such bullshit, you could then make it a perhaps not awful pocket shotgun. It would also be cheaper and easier to regulate each barrel for point of impact.
>>65569646I want a retarded modern Howdah. Don't try to step it down to anything less. It needs to stop a charging Cape Buffalo or Jamal high on PCP.
>>65569652Well why didn't you just say so? Then you need much bigger than .410 Bore, you essentially want a gun more or less like in OP's image, but instead of a percussion gun, it's a proper pistol chambered for .700 Nitro Express, and naturally that thing will kick like a horse on crack, but I have an angle; MagnaPorting.

>>65564735God their cocaine budget must be endless.
