New American tank dropped. is it obsolete?
>>6556482650mm gun on the new ifv prototype
>>65564831looks super roomy, thats nice.
>>65564831looks like the turret control is in the crew compartment
>>65564826It certainly is something the US is investing in a Leopard 1/AMX-30-style MBT (is that even the right term) after every other western country has offloaded theirs'.
>>65564921What the fuck are you talking about
I don't see a giant cage around it, 2+ active protection systems, and 3+ jammers. I don't see launchers for overwatch drones. So yes. Once again fighting yesterday's wars.
>>65564831>two tiny screens Can we finally kick out boomers out of tech development?
>>65565062Why do you keep repeating this weird bullshit in every tank thread?
>>65565062They're mounted on aluminium profiles, this is the most temporary setup in the history of temporary setups
>>65565052They can't have the izzat loss from installing a cope cage on their wunderwaffen
at this point with the fact cheap fpv drones are realy cheap widening the engagement zone by kilometers, the only way for tanks to survive is to have an artillery while moving mode with accurate special shells and recon drones ofc.for dislodging infantry just take a big enough drones and attach an underwater mine to it.
>>65565079There is no reason to not cover entire forward wall with bezelless screens and this will greatly improve situational awareness of the crew. Only reason is some stinky boomer stuck in the engineering department who didn't see modern curved gaming monitor.
>>65564931Booker, now to be replaced by the 50mm IFV. Maybe. It's probably just another money sink.
>>65565594booker was cancelled ages ago, and it wasn't even classified as a tank
>>65565105I am at a loss for words as to just how cringe your post is.
>>65565612>yes, I am graduated from a boomer engineering school, how can you tell?
>>65565105>>65565684Real life is not like in War Thunder and inside a tank is not like in a gaming room. There is a better way to do it.
>>65565105That would frag the moment something hit it, penetration or no
>>65565684You would rather have a computer monitor over a gps?
>>65564826I wanna hear the modified inline 6 CAT with hybrid electric drive.
>>65565095>>65565052Real countries don't need cope cages.
>>65565604Fucking turdies, man.
>>655659472 electric motors on the SAPA transmission that can drive independently of the engine or engine independently from electric motors. also a transverse engine layout. I dont know if the 2 stroke ACE engine will ever be viable/reliable. Its been in development hell for so long.
>>65565910Did you mean GPS or BMS?
>>65565966Gps (gunner's primary sight). If by bms you mean battle management system, the gunner doesn't get one of those in either case as far as I'm aware, just the commander
>>65566002ah, my bad, thought you meant positioning system -GPS
>>65564827QRD on the American 50mm? Is it a Bofors or something?
>>65566010XM913 Bushmaster 50mm produced by Northrup Grumman
>>65566010Bushmaster cannon its just scaled up they have shown a ton of sizes
>>65566010It's a bushmaster. XM913, a slightly upscaled 35mm bushmaster III using essentially 50mm super shot (35x228mm necked up to 50mm)
>>65565755>There is a better way to do it.>boomer bought into boondoggle like all boomers buy into scamsLike a pottery.
>>65566024Looks like a jousting lance, kino.
>>65565910There is no reason to use direct optics in the year 2026 besides terminal stages of boomerism in the brain. All available space in forward field of view of a crew member should be covered with retina resolution 120hz+ screens.
>>65566061Reliability, redundancy, and detail. Covering the hull in screens is the completely brain dead way to achieve synthetic transparency anyway, if you wanted that you would be much better served with goggles
>>65565101if you can counter drones with an effective hard kill system that can reliably engage threats in quick succession, you're back to tank supremacysome dudes in a tank or other fire support platform right where you need them is great for providing near instantaneous rounds on target when you need them there, not in a few minutes, NOW
>>65566002New Abrams is supposed to have all stations be capable of role swap to any other station in case of emergency.
>>65566022>>65566024>>65566025I love chain guns so much.
>>65566098Neat. The commander can already do that mostly. I think it would be easy to give the gunner a BMS display as well if they replaced the computer on his right with a dual purpose display kind of like picrel
>>65566054It's not VR, it's AR and yes, it's better and more practical than "cover entire forward wall with screens"
>>65564831is this a driver position or what? how does the driver drive if those screen stop working for whatever reason?
>>65566199It's a temporary station set up for testing
>>65566208okay, so how does the driver "see outside" in those modern tanks? genuine question
>>65566213Periscopes with vision blocks usually. If you mean specifically how do tanks with only screens work, there aren't any other than the armata that woek this way exclusively as far as I'm aware. If you lose electronic vision in those it's game over. Not that it would ever happen, the few armatas and it's varients that actually got built will never be used
>>65566082>Reliability, redundancy, Multiply screens are exactly that.>detailYou cant beat multiply screens in resolution.>covering the hull in screens is the completely brain dead way to achieve synthetic transparency anyway, This way it works. There is also boomer way, when you buy into muh tradition and tech boondoggles and end up with a singular 640*480 6" screen and boomers whining that you >cant have situation awareness without TC sticking out of teh hatch!>you would be much better served with gogglesGoogles completely suck in lag, resolution, and user fatigue.
>>65566232Alright I'll admit this was a good troll, you had me going for awhile
>>65564826>>65564827>>65566010
>>65566874though, that spaced deck plate looks different from all previous concepts/prototypes
>>65566054now explain to the class how you would carry spares for your meme screens in the cabin
>>65566010NATO 35mm necked up to 50mm, was selected as the armament for the Bradley replacement several years ago now
>>65564826>>65564827>>65564832Keep in mind that the M1E3 is a proof of concept vehicle, it uses a modified Abrams turret rather than the unmanned turret the M1A3 is going to use.
>>65564826>is it obsoleteYes, going forward every MBT needs a CROWs running as a CWIS. At least they finally got an unmanned turret.
>>65564832Oh fuck yeah, more AMPV testing. Can't tell if 30mm or a new prototype 30 or 50mm turret.Judging by the Iron Fist APS it could be a new turret.
>>65567273The vehicle on the right in your image has the 30mm Bushmaster.
>>65567273Mortar Launcher on the left, 30mm on the right
>>65567272It's gonna have a RWS with the 30x113 Bushmaster (image related).
>>65567296Nice, not obsolete then.
>>65567283>>65567292I was talking about the image I quoted from the OP >>65564832 Specifically the one on the right.
>>65567329That's the 50mm Bushmaster, you can tell by the unique muzzle break and fat barrel cover. It doubles as an AA gun, Northrop uses it in their 'Raid Hunter' SPAAG.
>>65567383Interesting, thanks. I believe it has 85 degrees of elevation, no?
>>65566893You better explain how do you carry spares for your meme periscopes and GPS.
>>65567234Why does one look like it was made for as a limited edition Sasha Grey collectible?
>>65565604Real AI posting bot hours
the wolf pack
>>65566222thanks anon, appreciate it
>it will simply be defeated by chariots!
>>65564826>>65564827>>65564832Looks more like a Tib Dawn voxel.
>>65567658There's a GAS and like 6 periscopes
>>65567910>the wolf pack>No cope cageWolfpack? More like mass grave, lmao.
>>65567392>AMPV AA conceptJesus that startled me. Before reading the filename I thought the US decided to make their own terminator.
>>65568272Well if they did it would actually work. The intended roll of the terminator and what they actually built don't really jive, though
>>65564831I am an oldfag tank gunner, and I am used to the headrest - binocular style of the olden days. Where you use the control panel w/o lookin. I don't mind if they switch to screens, especially now with AI finding targets for you, and even maybe doing the follow stuff, so you only click the target once and then only press fire later. Is ok. That's how it is. But I wonder, over rough terrain, if all the vibration and movement impedes the gunner, throws of your eyes from the screen... in the old ways you were kinda glued to the optics, with the headrest and I can imagine that some problems might occur. But I am old, what do I know...
>>65567910OooOoohhh the scary "wolf pack"... worked out real well in zaporizhia, didn't that?
>>65568240>>65568621Lyman status zizters?
>>65567910
>>65568621It did actually. Considering how few brads and tanks they got, they took them far. Brads especially. Those few are still kicking around, even, last I checked
>>65568621
>>65569150but what have they hunted to warrant even the suggestion of association
>>65565105do you know what will happen if the driver slams the breaks too hard and you hit the screen with your helmet?do you know what will happen when all the unsecured shit the soldiers threw in will fly at it while driving off road ?do you know what will happen to it if the vehicle is hit?the tiny rugged displays cost thousands of dollars a unit imagine how much big ones would cost and these are an item you replace often also i can't imagine fitting one in an abrams hatch so that's gonna be cancer to replace t. fcs technician in reserve
>>65567296The anti-drone weapon might actually wind up being .30 rather than 30mm. Apparently as long as the ATR (not-AI) and the targeting systems are good enough and fast enough, 7.62 NATO is sufficient for knocking Class I drones out of the sky.
>>65569252by thousands i mean the one in the picture costs like 15k
>>65568496Physical controls are necessary for operating blind. Even car manufacturers are getting pushback for putting everything behind touchscreen menus.
>>65569252>>65569256Can we replace the glass with vinyl or plastic or something like the type on those cheap laptops?
>>65569316not very durable comparatively
>>65566874>>65566883Doesn't look like any of the contenders previous offerings.
>>65569254If BAE made a 3P fuse in 30mm that would be the best option if you can get it to 3 or less rounds per kill. It gives the tank the range to protect no only itself but units operating with it and can be used to fuck on buildings, vehicles and infantry without top cover.
>>65569613Northrop makes both airburst and prox 30mm and is working on guided 50mm anti air rounds.
>>65568091So you get you answer. Install auxiliary sight camera and multiply screens set up is redundance itself.
>>65568668>Lyman statusNot taken by "Wolfpack", rofl lmao.
>>65567910needs Kiowas
