Were tunnels and other underground cucksheds ultimately overrated? They seem to have had a limited impact on IDF casualties while Hamas itself was slaughtered
oy gevalt neva forget the 6 gorillion miles of terror tunnels!
The short answer is no, the tunnels were extremely effective in three areas, protecting hamas forces, inflicting casualties and forcing the IDF to literally level gaza to avoid more. The bigger story nobody is talking about is the quality of the IDFs casevac. Even then, they've taken well over a thousand KIA in Gaza and something like 10,000 wounded. And they're still fighting. Seriously, the casevac situation is bonkers. The average time it takes for a senior medical practitioner to reach a wounded soldier is 1-4 MINUTES. They are doing blood transfusions on the battlefield, on the frontline, hundreds of them. Every army ion the West should be sending medical personnel to train with the israelis.

They certainly complicated Israeli operations, but not to a degree that led to significant impairments. Granted, Israel had years to gather intelligence pointing to exit nodes and probable location of the tunnels themselves plus ground penetrating radar and drone mapping once inside Gaza.
