Now that strength enhancing exoskeletons are a thing, what effect will that have? Are we going to see special units wearing them, wielding handheld Ma Deuces and quivers of rocket launchers or is it just going to be another tech trail that peters out amidst mumbles that "soldiers could carry more gear so they still ruin their knees?"Picture unrelated because we don't deserve that future yet.

>>65565932>what effect will that have?None. They test exos all the time, and it turned out that piloting a machine that requires you to flail all limbs all the time tires you the fuck out.At max, they can be used for police breaching teams who can pretty much drive right up to the front porch and be done cleaning the drug den in quarter an hour.

>>65565932The thing about power armor is that it would be a bitch to conceal behind cover, would be too large / unwieldy for trench warfare like in Ukraine, and it would just be a magnet for fire. To make a suit of armor that wouldnt just get shredded by something like .50bmg fire would essentially just be to build a light tank.

>>65566071Not only that, but even if the purpose of the power armour is just to resist small arms fire, as soon as power armour starts getting fielded in any meaningful quantity, every army is going to start issuing weapons that are at least somewhat effective against that power armour. A suit of power armour might be alright against 5.56mm ball, but it isn't going to be that hot against a .338NM GPMG, and it certainly isn't going to like getting shot by a 40mm grenade containing a shaped charge (whether that be current HEDP or a dedicated anti-armour round). It might take the sort of military budget only achievable by the US or China to field a large number of power armour, but every non-failed state on the planet can find the money to make an underbarrel GL standard issue on all their GLs and introduce larger caliber MGs and DMRs, and countries with a bit of money to burn might do things like issue large quantitites of tungsten SLAP ammo for their heavy caliber small arms, and maybe even do something like revisit multi-shot grenade launcher concepts like seen in the AICW.Power armour would still be advantageous against light shrapnel and intermediate caliber small arms, which means that it would be very attractive in niche scenarios like counter-terrorism. However, against a "real" opponent, power armour is going to just be worse than fielding real armoured vehicles in the vast majority of circumstances.
>>65566147You can't mass issue tungsten core small arms ammo. Even the US is limited to a strategic reserve model. Russia for example exhausted their supply of tungsten core 7N37 7.62x54R by 2018, even though it mops the floor with 99% of plates and thus likely exo protection.>.338 NormaThis will work with hardened steel core, probably good versus basic Level IV out to 100-200 yards. If against a harder plate like a Fort ACP-G or Gilliam 8002 then that distance will drop.>which means that it would be very attractive in niche scenarios like counter-terrorismBingo. GIGN is investigating a 13-plate getup by Mehler Vario of Germany.
