It looks like a PTM-3, they go off just looking at them funny and get triggered by changes in the magnetic field or vibrations
They also just destroy themselves in less than 24h usually... course that can vary, or just not. Part of the fun of landmines

Its close enough for a pound of high-ex, which is all they really are. No frag sleeve or shaping involved, just enough to blow the wheel off a light vehicle and annoy a tracked APC or IFV... or a dickhead with no sense of self preservation!
Something like it should leave a good 2m/6ft across shallow crater so I think its probably about right for what it is

Probably trying to plant a charge next to the mine to dispose of it. It's a valid way to do that, but this one should be approached with extreme caution, which he clearly lacked.

If I'm reading the right documentation and that's a PTM-3, the mine has both magnetic and position fuses that are designed to set it off if a vehicle passes over it or otherwise disturbs the mine.
The magnetic fuse is unpredictable, and might trigger from the metal in your equipment if you're careless enough. The position fuse is effectively an anti-handling device, and the mine should definitely not be touched at all once it's armed. Guess that's the part where he fucked up, trying to get his little charge just a bit closer to the mine.
>>
Why didn't he just get a big long stick

But would they face sanctions if they didn't play the part of tough guys clearing landmines by hand?
>>
>>65570148
With mines like that, you definitely should. Either somehow move your charge near it from as far away as possible, or better yet, fire at it from an armored vehicle or other cover. As he demonstrated in the video, the mine's quite sensitive and might not take much abuse to trigger, so even an imperfectly placed charge would have worked fine.
But guess he really wanted to show his UXO expert skills. He did remove said UXO, at least.
>>
>>65570135
I cant help ask myself, if they're that sensitive to disturbance, how close do you need the charge to be?

What a stupid way to lose 2 hands, 1 leg, your eyes, your hearing, and have permanent brain damage when you could just fly a drone into it.
>>
>>65569065
This just reinforces the conclusion that Russia is using the meat grinder tactic intentionally. They obviously are not training or equipping these guys in any meaningful way.
It's still absolutely baffling to watch them use these human waves. Even assuming they are getting rid of excess or problematic population, do they really believe that having millions of war casualties won't have a long term negative effect? How the hell do they plan on taking on NATO after they've already lost so much manpower? It's madness
>>
>>65570184
>fly a drone into it
You could huck a rock at it from distance and be better off than what he did.
>>
If the eye injury was caused by pressure, would wearing a protective visor be pointless?
>>
>>65570160
>Either somehow move your charge near it from as far away as possible

A methodological suggestion from someone with exactly zero explosives knowledge:
>safely prepare charge
>place charge on ground
>get long stick
>gently prod charge along the ground with stick until it is next to the mine
>detonate charge
>>
>>65569114
>Russian sapper trying to defuse a PTM-3, IIRC.
It doesn't make sense though. He fashioned his own explosive with a fuse.
It's an unpaved road in the middle of fuck nowhere. He could defuse it by throwing a grenade or firing his gun at it.
There must be something else to it.

PTM-3's should be disposed by shooting them from a distance. Thats the only real safe way of doing it, and the way any real sapper is trained to do it. Overconfidence, and/or lack of training is why this sapper didn't do so.

>>65569976
The PTM-3s steel case is designed with notches on every side, and even on the end. Those notches produce a shaped charge effect when the mine detonates, which kinda makes a pain in the ass to actually dispose of. That effect is probably why that guys leg was cut off so cleanly at the thigh.

If you had no training, you'd probably fuck off and shoot it from a distance.

But if you had just enough training to know what a counter charge is and how to set one and were issued with the gear for it, you might jump at the chance to use your training.

You can't teach common sense. A person develops it or they don't.
And insufficient training can give someone a false sense of confidence that will get them into trouble. That doesn't even begin to include the lack of proper equipment or protocols to be followed.
You would never see a properly trained combat engineer approach a mine like that. These guys aren't real soldiers. They're cannon fodder.

magnets are a bitch because of cube squere law or whatever muts call it . ifyou double the distance, the field strength drops to 1/8\of its original value 2^3 = 8 If you triple the distance it drops to 3^3 = 27.
resves is true aswell if you move in from 3m to 1m your metal from you rifle just became a HUGE. if you ever played with magnets (how do the work ???) you know how quickly this effect matters.

You literally can, reality can teach it so a teacher can too.

The word insufficient should be the clue for how you can in fact teach common sense.

That's not at all what the square-cube law is about. Also, what equation exactly is giving you a "diminishes with the cube of the distance" here? Nature tends to be rather fond of using the square for such things rather than the cube, and trying to look up how magnetism exactly will work on wikipedia mostly suggests that it's usually rather more complicated than that... (Though at least for two magnets a fair distance apart the attraction will diminish with the square of the distance.)

Pull all the wires. Nobody bothers putting tamper circuits on a suicide drone.

All you really need to do is pull the wires at the battery/capacitor and it's safe, it can't do shit without power.
>>

for the drone, sure, but I'm not sure how those crumble/whisker fuzes work. Especially those that are adapted to fit existing munitions.
>>
>>65577479

Just unplug the battery, the same lipo powers both the drone and the firing circuit.
If it has an mechanical / piezo fuse like a PG-7V you can just put if down carefully after unplugging the battery.

Those aren't present for the whisker fuzes I don't think. I suppose they could be left on and the whiskers wired into the same circuit but since you have to install those fuzes manually intro an RPG before firing, I doubt they're installed in the first place.
Either way, the solution is the same except that you shouldn't punt it away after pulling the wires.

Not sure if this is one such case, but both sides have been known to supply their nearly-isolated forward positions with drone drops.
The Ukrainians sometimes spot the pattern of the Russian drops, and deliver a disguised bomb instead.

Its the kind of place even the inhabitants wear the hat which is currently the state religion.
There's 8000 mosques across Russia and the Orthodoxy there is basically some kind of deviancy of the Greek church it split off from in the 17th century, regardless of what they say. Anyone brought up under the soviet system is usually at best agnostic about the whole thing and anyone saying they're christian more than likely hasn't seen the inside of a church in many, many years.
>you can be a christian without going to church!
Yeah, you can also call yourself a 'citizen' of a country without going to vote or encouraging free and fair elections, but we both know how that turns out. Like I don't call myself a christian because my attendance is practically nil despite being raised all through my childhood as a baptist, just that my confidence in humanity is not that great.

But Putin will put on any hat you ask him, he's got the wizard hats of orthodoxy, he's got the little round box shaped ones of muslim caucuses and he's mostly jewish so he's got one of them as well
And that sort of seems to be pretty standard for most Russians, what they are and who's asking get the answer

I wish I saved it, but someone noted that the Yandex scraper bots could be used to train the bots that actually disseminate the propaganda that the russians spread to the west with the information they gather, which will still affect what Russian bots can do.
There's also Zelenskyy directly saying their attacks reduced russian bot activity.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmRHe6gW-oc

Another thing that's been glossed over is the reason why Ukraine started targeting Russian data centers. It was because there was originally an agreement between Ukraine and Russia to not target each other's data centers, but like everything else, the Russian's broke their word and started attacking Ukrainian data centers in late September, so what we saw with Yandex was just the Ukrainian rightfully retaliating.

Meaning the fact that the Ukrainians are helping to stymie Russian interference in the US midterms appears to be coincidence. But the actions of trump and musk against Ukraine in the immediate aftermath really shows how much those two were counting on the russians to help them and are using the few cards they have left to try and stop the Ukrainians from doing more.

Trump apparently wants to end the fighting in Ukraine regardless of the outcome, or who is to blame for starting it. It comes across as appeasing Russia, which it effectively is, but to Trump he's "ending wars" and he wants a Nobel peace prize (never mind Iran).

As far a selling weapons, again, they don't seem to understand that other countries buying weapons from the US isn't the same as foreign aid. Also Ukraine is associated with democrats (Hunter Biden being appointed to that Ukraine gas company board), so Ukraine = democrat corruption.

With the democrats going full commie it would be nice if there were competent alternatives, but here we are.

But trade and business?
They'll drop you like pile of shit in a fucking hot minute, I'd not actually looked at the US top trade partners for ages but the top 10 on that list have all had their noses rubbed in some kind of spiteful shit, especially Canada and Mexico. It's because trump has almost complete control over the entire US government due to stuff like Project 2025 which was partially designed to purge the government of officials that would have acted as guardrails to keep trump from doing stuff like openly backing Putin in a war, along with just stacking every possible position with yes men. As opposed to his first term where he had some qualified people to keep him from acting on his worst impulses.
As for US arms manufacturers, they're not going to stand up to him over losing customers in Europe because trump's vindictive enough to just cancel every contract the US government has with the most vocal company as a scorched earth warning for the rest to stay in line.
Finally, follow the money, trump and his family want to cut deals to make billions in Russia, but Putin won't let them go through with them unless Ukraine surrenders first. This has nothing to do with the US interests, just trump's greed at the expense of the US's reputation.
The big question now is will trump continue to cut off US intel even though that is insanely unpopular due to the fact it's mainly used to minimize civilian casualties in Ukraine from Russian terror bombings and it's clear the Ukrainians will continue to fight for their freedom against the russian aggressors with or without it so it can't be used as leverage.

Either way, this is a really shitty sitution, so here's some footage of Ukraine shooting down a Russian Mi-28 helicopter with a drone to brighten the mood.
>>
>>65588170
Trump has not pressured russia to come to the negotiating table. So no, he is not trying to end the war by any means.
He is specifically trying to appease putler who he fancies.
That's also why these attempts are constantly failing. He isnt genuine with his "neutrality" and trying to force both sides to bargain.
All he is doing is making russians believe that they can scrape together some sort of a win because america is so uncommitted. He is directly prolonging the war with this retard policy. All for licking putler's boots.

I think it's actually an attempt to get responses that are off-topic for /k/ and then the discord brigades them with reports. Jannies don't look at the thread or what the posts are responding to, so they just see an off-topic post in /k/ and b& away.

Since this is a thread that shows just how retarded typical russians are, pro-zigger shills trying to shit all over the thread are to be expected.

I respect how much Zelenskyy has tried to dance around Trump and avoid alienating him in many ways but I can't blame him for this criticism. I don't think Trump understands (or cares, more importantly) how existential this is for Ukraine and ending fighting with the wrong deal is worse than most other outcomes

I assume because it's a major update for Ukraine's War against Russian Aggression that greatly influenced how the war is moving forward, and not just complaining about a a political figure.

Plus russian data centers and oil refineries are valid military targets, so of course people want to see footage of the latest smoking accidents. Which will continue based on Zelenskyy's statement >>65590121

And to make sure we remain on topic, here's footage of the Balakovo data centrer, the 4th data center to be struck by the Ukrainians, having some minor issues with its fire suppression system.

a mixture of Iran in the present, Taiwan in the obfuscated future, as well as ongoing budget issues and the near election cycle all provide incentive for the US to limit the sale of munitions to Ukraine (Europe)
>but the US would get money for it
true, but alas the weapons may be needed *now* and money would only make them *later*
My heart goes out to Ukraine, but as always you should probably be blaming Germany/Europe for this as the US has been BEGGING Europe to rearm for literal decades (which they refused to do even after 2014, and were still reluctant after 2022). And instead of taking anything the drunken monkey rapist to the east said seriously, they just instead decided to become more dependent on Russian oil. Aside from eastern europeans, they're alright.
that being stated, denying intelligence is silly, as thats essentially free/a sunk cost

>That is a very clear campaign speech on behalf of the dems for the midterms.
you overestimate a flipped house/senate's ability to actually do anything without overwhelming majority (which they won't have)
further, trump is a lame duck positive/negative press doesn't really matter to him unless its REALLY REALLY REALLY negative, like flip every red state blue negative
this is all diplomatic "cheap talk", as in it doesn't hold any power. for all we know, its Zelinsky trying to scare Europe into actually spending money on defense (at Trump's behest). Not saying it is that, but just saying that we don't actually know its purpose and its best to wait and see what major powers *do* rather than *say*
>>
>>65590840
