Ching Lee was also the one who cut through the bullshit and ordered all US ships to be covered in oerlikon and bofors cannons.

How come America could make so many ships and so much ammo back then, but a little seal clubbing in the sandbox depletes our stockpiles now? I just don't understand. We're rich, aren't we? Just build more factories. Are we too retarded now to remember how?

We had significantly more domestic industry, and we shifted to a total war footing while throwing money at literally abyoebw who could make something (we were spending about 44% of our gdp on the military in 1944).

Also simplicity of arms. Making a 40mm bofors is quite a bit less technical than most modern smart munitions that require specialized facilities and global supply chains.
>>
>>65575556
We have stuff like phalanx that does this way better. The hold up us smart munitions for intercepting fast stuff at long range and hitting dug in, small, or mobile enemy targets.
>>

With the generous assumption that you're just ignorant instead of trolling, the two main differences are the industrial capacity and the nature of the ships and materiel.

Warships in WWII were in many ways extremely similar to both contemporary civilian vessels and similar to the prevailing style of ship that had been built by absolutely everyone since 1906. They weren't uparmored merchantmen by any stretch of the imagination but the advancements since the early 1900s had mostly been lateral instead of linear - hull shapes, guns, armor, damage control, etc. all improved in big ways but fundamentally the actual manufacturing and construction was an extremely mature technology and America was hands-down the ship-building capitol of the world so there was an abundance of skilled labor. On top of that, all of the technologies were analog and almost all of them were manufactured domestically through and through. Making a 20mm Oerlikon is much cheaper and MUCH easier than making a CIWS in the same way that making a 16-inch shell is cheaper and faster than making a Tomahawk.

Last and most important, the US was spending the equivalent of about five TRILLION dollars on the military - annually. That's roughly five times as much as is currently being spent and IIRC is about four times as much as was being spent during peak GWOT.
>>
>>65575473

Assuming this isn't bait, wartime economics make guns and bullets very cheap, but good luck buying consumer goods. Americans at home lived through essentially a lighter version of the Great Depression, probably closer to how life was in the USSR in the 1970s/1980s, just so the American military could dump entire parking lots worth of metal at incoming warplanes and boats.

1. Because of the US ending the war being the only untouched 1st world nation, we enmeshed ourselves too much into a global interconnected trade network with ourselves at the center. So much of our country's 'RAM' for lack of a better term is spent always making sure that shit is running that it's hard to disengage and really gear up like that. But,
2. WWII was a total war. As in as much of your country was devoted to the sole purpose of winning war as was possible. We were a continent wide factory with the past 10 years beforehand being force marched by some questionably legal moves by FDR into having an unrivaled population of skilled trade machinists in an era before computers where pure steel was the name of the game. No military conflict since has warranted even 1% the concern or focus WWII has warranted. I'll begrudgingly admit that even as a diehard American supremacist. If there was a threat or rival power truly big enough, yes, I believe we could eventually return to doing this. There'd be issues going back to point 1 because not everything is sourced in-house these days, but if the US were focused enough yes we could. The bigger issue is the propaganda problem, especially from rival powers. Any statement in English is assumed to originate from an American online at first reading. You wouldn't listen to a squinty eyed Japanese man in '43 telling you how the West has Fallen, but when it is an anonymous or online profile on the internet speaking in plain English, it muddles the waters a lot more. The US more than anyone else suffers the most from this and our populace is divided likely deliberately from outside sources. That must be fixed first.

Private equity ruins everything. As an example to illustrate this the fucking mafia was able to make Vegas a money printing machine, private equity takes over and it just nosedives. Suddenly Vegas is like at 40% capacity every year and losing money all the time.
And it's really easy to see why, mobsters knew that you took it easy on the food, accommodation and entertainment pricewise and then you gouged on the slots and cards. So you had the pull of cheap prices for all your normie holiday shit, which you could pay up front and then blow the rest on gambling and still be able to get home.
But private equity takes over and suddenly you're being gouged on everything but without the cheap costs of the holiday there's no fucking reason to go to Vegas. It's a fucking desert.
And the reason private equity ultimately fails is it takes decision making out of the hands of people who care and are on the ground so understand the conditions and into the hands of cuntish finance bros a thousand miles away, who don't understand the business and don't care beyond what they can extract before dipping.
Which is not to say that private equity is all bad, but it needs to not have decision making powers. You invest the money in a guy you trust and then you let him get on with it and if your nous for people is good you all make money, a model that has worked for thousands of years.

as if there aren't entire legions of blue blood Connecticut finance WASPs running the show.
Jews punch far above their weight but private equity and venture capitalism is mostly a diverse cast of non-Jews like WASP old money, Mormons, Catholics, old money Bongs, Euro expat, Gulfies, and even the occassional upjumped Chink or Jeet. Mitt Romney and Vivek Ramashwarmadingdong, the Mercers, Ellisons, etc. being prime examples. Your overly-simplistic worldview holds us all back against the sociopaths.

...that being said, Las Vegas is an outlier in that it is actually run by Jew(s) (mainly Sheldon Adelson, Trump's biggest individual donor, whose wife is Israeli and donates accordingly).
But no, big-dicks in the finance world are overall not even close to majority Jewish.

muh GDP is massively inflated by deficit spending, in addition to decades of regular inflation just making all the numbers bigger.
US GDP is up ~30x since 1970, while the price of gold is up ~125x since 1970. Has the US economy grown, or shrunk, since 1970?

Because the cost of manufacturing modern equipment has ballooned massively and can not come down. Unless you're advocating for the government to return to stamped sheet metal guns without optics and no missiles, aircraft, or complex systems, the cost and ability to produce a stockpile will remain expensive.
>>
>>65577439
The main issue with private equity is that it's paired with the stock market. Which, together, means that a business being successful doesn't even fucking matter to shareholders. Only the stock price matters. As long as a shareholder can sell at the top, they don't give a fuck if the company crashes and burns right after, because stock price is only reliant on appearances rather than health. And with shorting, you can double dip. Short your own company right before it collapses (which you'll know about before anyone else) and make even MORE money.
>>

Social security is something like 40% of the annual budget, with Medicare taking up the next biggest chunk. Both are social welfare programs for old people. Old people who qualify for both are something like 70% of all voters. It's not changing.
