>Blowpipe, the British Manpad that entered service in 1975
>Joystick guided missile traveling at mach 1.5
>The manual guidance was chosen to make the missile cheaper, but the missile ended up costing 55% more than a stinger
>Out of the 200 fired during the falkland war there were 2 hits and half the time the missile would fail in various ways giving it a 1% hit rate
>The control fins were too difficult to make foldable so it was decided to make the front of the launcher fit the non-foldable fins, the fins at the back are strictly for stabilization so they were made foldable
>The system would weight 22kg (49lbs) when loaded, slightly heavier than a 20kg Olympic barbell
>>
Britain has been broke for a very long time. A lot of the time people meme on British gear being shit, but its rarely a result of them being incapable of producing modern equipment, more that they straight cant afford it. This is why the warrior had no stabilized gun, its also why it uses the Rarden in the first place; why the warrior and initial challengers had no thermals, and yes; its also why they chose joysticks over IR homing. People blame "muh thatcher", but she was just doing damage control on an economy that never really bounced back from the second world war.
>>
>>65575546
C'mon even Soviets made it seeker manpads, it's not that complicated.
Brits design was specifically intentional to counter flares (so they made missile that can't hit aircraft with or without flares at all lol)
>>
>>65575546
>initial challengers had no thermals
That was more due to the TOGS 1 not being ready before the Mk2 came out, all the initial vehicles were produced ready for mounting them.
Its abit like the 105mm vs 120mm for the M1, with the initial M1 being a low-cost effort with upgrade plans, such as the Rhm120 which was deemed not ready at the time
>>
>>65575546
>the warrior had no stabilized gun, its also why it uses the Rarden in the first place
Why do people refuse to look at the role the vehicle was designed for?
>>
>>65575637
Rarden was designed for FV721 Fox armoured car, very small vehicle with tight internals, it simply had no internal space to fit belt fed ammo box, so Brits come up with this cringe clips feeding. But at least fir Fox car it made some sense. But when building Warrior IFV they installed whatever gun they had (Rarden) and seriously compromised fire power with it's clips feeding.
>>
>>65575637
>Why do people refuse to look at the role the vehicle was designed for?
95% of people are unable to view shit in the context of design requirements, doctrine, industrial capacity and everything else that influences a vehicle or weapon.
The cv90 vs Brad debates during 23/24 was pure pain to watch

British retards truly believe she was the Antichrist, but completely ignore the fact that if she didn't do what she did the entire British economy would collapse. Leftists can't comprehend total collapse, they always believe value magically erupts because Marx says so.

Face it, it's designed shit.

The brits never truly recovered from World War 1.
They indebted themselves to America, and then went much further into debt with the second round to own the germans.

Blowpipe makes some sense in 1970s context. Redeye and Strela-2 were ultimately really bad weapons being tail-engagement only, meaning the attacker gets to drop their bombs and then the small man-portable missile has to play catch-up, and they were completely unsuitable for shooting down observation helicopters that the brits thought would do pop-ups in the European theater. Both were also easily jammed with simple strobing IRCM gear.

Blowpipe ended up being garbage as well, but there was some reason for going with MCLOS. Stinger, the first actually good MANPADS was only introduced in the '80s.
>>
>>65575770
It was designed entirely for the European front of the Cold War, with the assumption that its entire job would be to engage Soviet light armour from static, prepared, and preferably hull down positions. In that role the stabiliser is completely dead weight.

>HURR DURR DAT R DUM!!!!!
Only if you assume that it's the only thing that the British military had (it wasn't), that the British would be the only ones fighting the Soviets in that scenario (they wouldn't), and you demand that every piece of military equipment should be able to do every single possible job (it shouldn't).

Seethes constantly about britain, he got the nickname because the warrior was just the excuse he used to always used to spam threads with. Now he seems to have at least gotten smart enough to branch out (though you notice the warrior gets brought up in the very first post after the OP).
>>
>>65575821
This is pure desperate unmitigated cope. The Rarden wasn't chosen because of some big brained doctrinal choice, it was chosen because it was already in inventory. The warrior didn't lack a stabilizer because of some Fulda gap 4d chess, it was omitted because the program was already overbudget, which incidentally why the slated heavy variants with rocket systems and the self-propelled gun variant never materialized. There is no shame in not being able to afford something, but it is shameful to try frame a lesser capability borne of insufficient funds to actually be a good thing.

Soviets got toilet paper in 1968 (google it), unironically by buying a british factory to produce the stuff. The first cosmonaut flew into space with shit in his pants. The stuff was in short supply up until 1991, despite generations of soviet people not even using it, since they were raised before it appeared.
That is to say that USSR "having something" is a bad indicator. A typical soviet man in the 1970s and 1980s ate "naked pasta" (i.e. boiled pasta without anything, since even ketchup wasn't a thing) and maybe some potatoes. Even bootleg balogna sausage (diluted with crap) was in short supply and people would ride hundreds of miles on train to buy some.

It's not a british thing. People are generally retarded and have a bad thing with memory, cause and effect and just seeing an overall picture. It's how there's a ton of retards in post-soviet countries who are nostalgic for USSR for dozens of reasons, while they were the ones who sucked donkey dick while they've actually lived through the times. Bad memories are forgotten (alcohol increases the effect), good memories remain, now add some commie-propaganda and you're golden.

It’s a made up word that British shills on /k/ use to brigade threads

You can test this, drop the term warriortard or Armatard in a random thread and one of them will get an alert and show up and start squeaking about ziggers or whatever they do

Next, try with it misspelled or using a Unicode character for one of the letters, and they don’t get the alert

Nobody is denying that the British government is doing its best to (very ineffectively, and often counterproductively) influence domestic media and conversations; but suggesting that there are British wumao equivalents spamming your retarded threads on /k/ is genuinely fucking delusional. Ther is nothing wrong about that. Practical kill probability of that era manpads is in are around 10%, you aren't stoping attackers with them. This category of weapons is for getting "revenge" shots and inflict attrition.

Manual SACLOS against jet fighter is pure delusion.

The blowpipe was never a general use MANPAD, the Bongs already had stingers for that. Its niche was to take out Soviet artillery spotting and recon helos loitering without alerting them to a radar lock or to be able to be spoofed by flares. It' still wasn't great at this but thats what happens when you build something 10 years before the technology has been miniaturised enough to make it practical.
But you probably already knew this and this seethe thread exists for you to shit into it and for no other reason.

IKR! Why would a country in the middle of the Cold War, that had already seen how close things had come to going hot, tailor their military to exactly that scenario? >>65576919
Anon, Empires are an inherently bad idea for a country. They are good for individual stake holders who can extract value from the Empire while getting other people to pay for their security concerns, but almost always a net drag on the actual country and it's people.

Especially since the brits never got fully on board with IFV doctrine. The real anti-tank capability of the british army was the dismounts and specialist anti-tank units like swingfire and malkara, which is readily apparent if you read their doctrines and watch their training videos about how they actually intended to fight. They pretty much intended to fight Russia the same way they fought Germany, which was wait for the attack, fix it with their front line troops, break it up with artillery and other indirect fires and then counterattack the reeling enemy.
And swingfire was very cool, you park the vehicle behind a hill, you have a spotter hidden on top of it and the missiles fires up and over the hill and is guided onto the target. All with early 60s technology.
>>

I meant to add, warrior was intended to be used as a battle taxi with benefits, rather than a full IFV.

According to British media creators, the 1980s consisted of Maggie Thatcher personally firing everyone from their jobs, stealing all their money, then firebombing their houses, sending good honest lads to NI where they all got blown up but that's okay because they were brutal colonizers who massacred thousands every day, and the BNP murdering every single black person in the UK.
