Now that suppressors are available is this still a meme or a real round?
>>
It's a better choice than 5.56 for 99% of people.
>>
>>65580254
Unless they intend to shoot at longer ranges, or they intend to burn through a fuckton of rounds.

Round made for suppression
More suppressors
300 dead?
Jesus Anon you're fucking retarded.

You think people are willing to pay for a new gun and expensive ammo in this economy?
Or will they just suppress what they have even if its not optimal?
>>
>>65580336
Can get an upper cheap or build your own sub 300 if you use cheap stuff.
300 can will work with other 30 cals, like 7.62x51so has flexibility.
300 is cheaper than most 30 cal ammo and per round about the same as nicer stuff of 223.
Nice part most 300 are AR stuff so you can swap lowers saving more money.
It'll def become more popular.
I have 4 ARs only 1 is 300 fwiw.
>>
>>65580234
I have a 300sbr. It's a real round for sure but probably not as good as a lot of people make it out to be

The good
>AR platform is easy to swap around
>can perform subsonic or supersonic
>general high capacity
>great for suppressors

The bad
>expensive per round pricing
>subsonic performance worse than .45acp

But better than 5.56, which is all that was asked of it.
>>
>>65580234
It's alright. I wouldn't pay attention to the fanboys slobbering themselves over it, but it'll kill a hog dead (and that's its main purpose nowadays, LOL).

>>65580369
>can perform subsonic or supersonic
This was the reason for its creation. Unfortunately, the results have been mediocre. If you tune it for subsonic ammo, then you can fire supersonic ammo, but it'll beat up the gun quickly (something that all fanboys deny, but it's true even on expensive guns like the Honey Badger or the SIG Rattler), and if you tune it for supersonic ammo, then it won't run subsonic ammo at all. This puts it in an awkward position where if you exclusively run supers, then you might as well keep 5.56; if you exclusively run subs, then you're better off with a PCC/SMG; and if you run both, you get a gun that beats itself up quite quickly.
>>
>>65580234
Do you want a larger and heavier bullet? Do you want to suppress? Those are the relevant questions.

>>65580254
5.56mm is much cheaper, and creates significantly greater wounds.
Also flatter shooting and lower recoiling.

>if you exclusively run subs, then you're better off with a PCC/SMG
As someone who is big on PCCs/SMGs but 300 BLK curious, my main appeal is that it seems like the better home defence round. Handgun rounds like 9mm and .45 ACP will over travel through walls much more than 300 BLK, which tumbles. Over travel creates more risk for collateral damage (aka killing my loved ones). Also, 300 BLK is deadlier than 9mm and .45 ACP. Therefore, it seems like the sweetspot for home defence.

Pic related. It's an airsoft from some Japanese guy on Xitter (^:
>>
There's like one type of 300 bullet that supposedly expands at subsonic speed
>>

>Handgun rounds like 9mm and .45 ACP will over travel through walls much more than 300 BLK, which tumbles.
I've seen some supersonic .300 BLK tumble, the subsonic 200-230 gr stuff does not tumble. It'll penetrate exactly the same as .45 ACP does (arguably better since its a smaller diameter while being the same weight), it'll penetrate more than 9mm.
>Also, 300 BLK is deadlier than 9mm and .45 ACP.
Again, the subsonic .300 BLK will perform about the same as the .45 ACP, just slightly better than a 147 gr 9mm.
>>
>>65584209
Oh, I was not aware of that distinction. I'll do more research about that.

>Gen III Kriss Vector (For the FRT addicts, do not get this if you only want to shoot semi-auto)
>Countless AR-45 on the market.
>Stribog SP45 (for the delayed blowback fans)
>CMMG Dissent .45 (for the competition shooters who like to work on their own guns)
>B&T APC45 Pro (For the people who want the most modular option on the market)
>B&T GMH45 (For the people who want B&T but can't afford the APC)
>LWRC SMG-45 (For the people who want a UMP lookalike that's good)
>HK USC 45 (For the HK fanboys that like to overpay for straight blowback just because it says HK)
>Ruger LC Carbine .45 (for the people who demand American-made for some reason but can't afford the CMMG and the LWRC)

which of those are actually good though? I sort of want a vector but I've heard it kind of sucks. what I really want is one of those mp5s converted to 45 that they made for the seals, but I don't think you can just buy one.
>>
>>65580552
>the Honey Badger or the SIG Rattler
Anon, those guns intentionally compromise durability for compactness over a standard ar15
>>
>>65584916
>I sort of want a vector but I've heard it kind of sucks
They are heavier than their competitors (to better control recoil), they have short barrels (to place the barrel in front of your hand rather than above it to better control recoil), and their recoil reduction system that pushes the bolt downward rather than rearward feels great in full-auto and awful in semi-auto. All of these combined are why I mentioned that gun is for the FRT addicts, not for the guys who want a semi-auto PCC.
>what I really want is one of those mp5s converted to 45 that they made for the seals
???? Never heard of it. I know the Seals used the HK UMP for a while (its on the list as the civilian legal USC), and it had the opposite problem as the vector; the full-auto felt so bad that the Seals would use it in semi-auto only. Most of the things on that list work; the Hi-Point was built really cheaply, and the CMMG was made by a company that doesn't seem to know what good QA/QC is; I only put them on the list because other people swear by them.

I cannot, cannot wait for you boomers to all be dead.

Still waiting on someone to develop a simple two position gas adjustment to address this issue. It is trivial really.

Except purpose loaded defense super 300blk like the Phantom Defense 120gr Specter produces 1530 ftlbs of energy...

Do you mean type like architecture/design or just literally one brand/offering? If the latter, you are wrong. There are easily 5 different effective defensive subsonic 300blk cartridges to choose from.

>I cannot, cannot wait for you boomers to all be dead.
Calling a gun an efficient hog hunter is high praise by boomer standards. After all, they think 5.56 is for foxes and coyotes only. I've met a boomer who was convinced you need .300 WinMag for boars; clearly, he was a bit paranoid.
>Still waiting on someone to develop a simple two position gas adjustment to address this issue.
I'm the guy from >65580552. Multiple adjustable gas blocks exist, like the riflespeed. I've seen A FEW of them break, and because .300 BLK is so dirty, I've seen A LOT of them get stuck/carbon locked to the point where you can't move them even though they haven't broken.
>Except purpose loaded defense super 300blk like the Phantom Defense 120gr Specter produces 1530 ftlbs of energy
I'm not the guy who wrote >65581181, but having an honestly impressive amount of energy doesn't matter if the round ice-picks and leaves the target with most of that energy rather than displacing it all onto the target. While your recommendation does expand nicely, I am impressed by those Phantom Defense round's expansion; not all of that energy makes it into the target.

I'm not >65583756 either, but could you give us the details on which 5 offerings you trust?

unless its subsonic round. no silences don't do shit.
nothing can silence a supersonice round and it doesnt do shit for rounds bigger then 5.56
.300 is way too big. your not going to be sneaking with that thing.

Maybe in another 10 or 15 years people will realize that permanent wound cavity is more important than energy transfer. I'm optimistic.
>>
>>65585471
>Maybe in another 10 or 15 years people will realize that permanent wound cavity is more important than energy transfer.
If you understood that, you wouldn't have been pointlessly bragging about the energy (>65585375) on a cartridge famous for ice-picking through a target.
>>
>>65585391
120gr 30 caliber bullet Tac-TX projectile with 1530 ftlbs of energy absolutely is going to create significant wounds. I would argue significantly greater than a LOT of 5.56

>>65585451
>riflespeed
>superlative Arms
These are fine for fine tuning gas for one operating condition, but they're not quick easy toolless on the fly adjustments like the kind that would be ideal for swapping from subs to supers.
>ice-picks vs energy dump
Yes this is why the projectile design and cross section matter as well.
>5 offerings subs
Phantom Defense 242 gr Big Brother
Phantom Defense 238 gr Revenant
Discreet Ballistics 188gr Selous Expander
Lehigh Defense 194 and 195 gr
Federal Fusion 190 gr bonded
Gorilla Punisher 205 gr Expander

And there are others. ACME makes a 265gr projectile that some have developed loads with. Sure it might not have the same expansion performance as a fracturing or expanding round, but 265gr is a fat fucking bullet no matter how you slice it.

AI bot fuck off

>>65585471
It isn't one or the other. Massive energy transfer that doesn't penetrate deeply won't be deadly. Consider 1oz of No. 7.5 birdshot at 1200 fps..
That is almost 2000 ft lbs... with excellent "energy transfer" in that you're guaranteed that there will be no pass through... all of the projectile energy ends up in the target... issue is that it will end up shallow in the target without penetration... It simply won't be as deadly as another shot with less energy but more penetration.

This is my second post ITT, I'm trying to guide y'all in the right direction. >>65585607
>It isn't one or the other.
Didn't say it was. I guess I need to lay it out. In respect to terminal ballistics, penetration is king, permanent wound cavity is queen, and everything else is academics.

Also why do you say the riflespeed block isn't suitable for fast gas changes? I've never used one but I watched the hop video on it and it looks like a good solution from where I'm standing.
>>
>>65585375
>Still waiting on someone to develop a simple two position gas adjustment to address this issue. It is trivial really.
problem with gas adjustments is that they get dirty quick and stop adjusting
your pic related looks retarded, it limits the gas after the gas tube, meaning that more pressure builds up in the gas tube then it is designed for
>>
>>65586054
>your pic related looks retarded
It has been working well in my setup for almost 2000 rounds now, and has been a product for over a decade now. It hasn't carbon locked on me, and IMO for any gas adjustment system, a bit of CLP and running through the adjustments is a fine thing to simply include as part of the typical cleaning schedule, and if done on the typical schedule of cleaning and maintenance, no locking behavior is observed.
>it limits the gas after the gas tube
Adjustable carriers and gas keys do the same thing? Are these retarded designs also?
>meaning that more pressure builds up in the gas tube than (not then, retard) it was designed for
a) That isn't how fluid dynamics works. Impedance and orifice restrictions even far downstream are "seen" upstream. Total system pressure gradient evolves in time based on that.
b) Are you implying this would make the tube burst or something lol 1) that hasn't been observed 2) if it were an issue it would be an issue with adjustable gas carriers and keys

General thoughts and impressions on the LR300? The consensus I see is that it was expensive and never took off therefore it was bad, but my gut tells me this is noguns conjecture rather than opinion informed by experience.
>>
>>65585459
>unless its subsonic round. no silences don't do shit.
You are retarded; even when firing supersonic rounds, reducing dB levels to make it closer to hearing safe is always appreciated. Anyone who knows anything about dB knows that rifles are too loud, ear protection alone isn't enough to prevent wear on your ear, but ear protection combined with a suppressor just barely is.

>>65585607
>5 offerings subs
I've never heard of Gorilla Punisher or Discreet Ballistics but the other ones are pretty good.

>>65586027
>Also why do you say the riflespeed block isn't suitable for fast gas changes?
I explained why in >65585451, the other guy who responded to you is someone else. I've seen a few adjustable gas blocks break (they fly off the gun while firing, which is kind of funny to watch on the range, would be horrifying in a self-defense encounter), and a lot of them get carbon locked to the point where your adjustable gas block is no longer adjustable.

>>65585375
>simple two position gas adjustment
Adding to my earlier point. There will never be a simple 2-position fix because the amount of gas needed will change depending on what suppressor you use (baffles have high backpressure, flow-through cans have lower backpressure) and what the temperature is (let's say you live in an area with multiple seasons; in the summer your gun needs less gas to operate than in winter; this is a minor issue on unsuppressed guns but may be a point of consideration on suppressed guns). Ergo, a dial with many positions is needed.

>>65586054
>more pressure builds up in the gas tube then it is designed for
I'm not the guy you sent that message to, but who cares about that? Gas tubes are designed to work under safe pressures; if the gas tube breaks, then be glad it's the gas tube and not a different part of the gun.
>>
>>65586228
>I see is that it was expensive
You dont understand how expensive it was. When it was being sold you could get 2 colt ars with money left over or 5-6 aks for the price.
Even when it was remade by para it was still more expensive than an ar and youcould get 3-4 wasrs.
>>
>>65586211
What is that handguard, stock, and what kind of bcg do I need to use that short buffer tube? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've literally never been to /arg/.
>>
>>65585451
>I've met a boomer who was convinced you need .300 WinMag for boars; clearly, he was a bit paranoid.
If "paranoid" comes into it he may have had a fair point. There's a difference between a dangerous game rifle and a hunting rifle. With the former you have to take the shot whether you have an ideal shot or not and the animal has to stop immediately not after it sprints 100 yards. Personally I wouldn't ever go boar hunting on foot. They absolutely will try to ambush and kill you and their tusks are the right height to sever an adult man's femoral artery.
>>
>>65586556
you need to buy a zm lr300, a para ttr
or an airsoft lr300 with the parts shoved on to a 22lr
all of these things are extremely rare and expensive.
the airsoft is sorta available but then you have to custom fit everything.

>A wild boar [in 2017] attacked and fatally wounded a German hunter as the man tried to shoot him, police said on Monday.
>The 50-year-old man was out with several other hunters near the northeastern town of Greifswald — 120 miles (190 km) north of Berlin — when he was killed by the male boar.
>Witnesses to the attack said the man fired a shot and then moved into some reeds to look for the animal, where the pig apparently surprised him.
>The man suffered serious injuries to his left thigh and fell into some water. He died later at a hospital.
