Some new rifles adopted by modern armies no longer come with bayonet lugs (The M7 comes to my mind first). Although some new military rifles do still come with bayonet lugs like the M27. At what point do you think the last "new" rifle with a bayonet lug will be selected by a modern military? Will Picatinny/MLOK adapters see small scale use for training/parading with bayonets?
Also, post ur bayonets
Of all the retarded things the M7 does, skipping the bayonet is probably the least retarded, but that's not saying much. For what it matters, there's little reason to design an infantry rifle and to NOT put a lug on it somewhere where, if absolutely necessary, the grunt can click on his issued field knife. He probably will never ever need to do this, but his job is literally to kill, and often at close ranges, therefore it's very little effort and cost to enable that minor bit of backup. Besides, bayonets are cool, they make military rifles more complete.
>>65582914Part of it too is the bean counters>Think of how much time/money we can save if we cut out the bayonet module of the training curriculum
Bayonets are tactically dumb because if you're going to use a knife in CQB it's because you're out of ammo. That doesn't apply to the enemy. You want a free hand to push their gun away while you stab them.
>>65583081you don't understand the point of a bayonet, do you?
>>65583088You're not going to say it's about "creating distance" in military policing scenarios, are you? Regular riot cops get the job done without spears, and everyone in the world understands the meaning of a gun pointed at them. You're the one who doesn't understand, aren't you?
Bayonets are more about controlling large groups of unarmed people than killing armed combatants. Many people in extreme emotional states, especially in large groups where mob-mentality takes over, lose their fear of firearms. But the pointy stick is literally mankind's oldest weapon, and those same mad people unafraid of a gun will still avoid throwing themselves upon the end of a spear.
>>65583101Not him but you talk like a scalded single mother
>>65583107I'm not me either, but at least I know when I'm right.
>>65583101no, niggerits for stabbing the bastard thats rushing you out of nowhere from around a corner, because the asshole thats commanding you sent your ass into a maze of trenches and roomsthe idea that you can't even understand what the point, the literal point, the stabby stabby poky point, of a bayonet is, shows you have an iq less than a fucking homoerectus>>65583138no, you're not
>>65583144I know from Ukraine war videos that surprise contacts in CQB are best dealt with by gunfire. Remember the ginger wargonzo guy who ran into a uki and got hilariously magdumped? Knife fights are prolonged and dangerous to get stuck in. There's a video that proves that as well.Guns > knives
>>65583332and bayonet fights are completely different than knife fights, because you don't fight against a bayonet, you either stabbed to death or run away
>>65583335You can also just shoot the bayonetter if you have a gun, which is pretty likely in such a situation.
>>65583340thats the funny thing about fighting 3rdies
>>65582769Bayonets as 'turn gun into spear' are pretty pointless. A combat knife as a tool and a backup weapon is not.
>>65583356Vastly easier to use your gun as a spear than try to fight with your bare knife.
>>65583144It's for quiet and efficient corpse-checks.>>65582769What's that bayonet mount called and where do I get one? Been looking OP.
>>65583332>I've watched a lot of How it's Made on TV, which makes me an expert in manufacturing
>>65583569>Stab soldier with bayonet>It gets stopped by their armor and you're shot>Stab soldier with knife>Your extra dexterity lets you slip the knife into their neck, and your free had prevents them from shooting your before they pass onSeems like the "bare knife" wins here.
Bayonets work best when you have a few guys who have run out of ammo and can charge a position and stab a single target simultaneously. But the reduced length of rifles has made them less useful.
>>65583790You know it's actually not that hard to control a mounted bayonet right? Arguably easier than just a knife. They're actually quite handy for slipping between gaps in armor. Historical knights were stabbing people in gaps significantly smaller with polearms three times the length of a modern rifle with a bayonet.
>>65582769cant you just use the one for flash light, laser pointers,... for the bayonet as well?
>>65582774
>>65583890/k/ is gay
>>65583898Used to be a lot less
>>65582769Bayonets are cool thus they should be on every rifle
>>65583898It used to not be. But like everything, zoomers came into places they weren't welcomed. And ruined it. It's important to gatekeep everything. Homos, trannies, Zoomers (no different then homos and trannies) destroy everything they touch.
>>65582769Bayonets were more psychological in warfare only highly training men were capable of charging at the enemy with them, and the enemy always ran when it happen
>>65583105Yeah a good example of this was the leadup to the Kyle Rittenhouse incident - psychotic dude gets in his face several times, grabbing for the gun yelling "you gonna shoot me?" or something to that effect. In those circumstances a fixed bayonet provides an important piece of the riot shield's protective-personal-space function in much more portable and expedient form. Because kitted out MPs aren't always available.
>>65583790First of all, you assume that it's somehow easier with just a bare knife, second that your opponent will always have body armor, and then third, is that you appear to somehow think that there's no conceivable way to aim anywhere else on the body besides the chest (like, say, the fucking neck or face). Optionally that fixing it on the end of your rifle uniquely prevents this from happening.
I'm pretty certain the anti bayonet sentiment itt is all coming from one anon
>>65584001Unc
>>65583105It's almost shocking how much people miss this point (heh), if you have soldiers that ever need to do riot control then bayonets probably make a serious difference as to whether or not your soldiers will get triggered into firing upon a crowed of angry people.
>>65583890hear me out
You always have a bayonet lug.
>>65583790In a theoretical 1v1, the guy with a bayonet affixed to a rifle will have an advantage versus a guy with only a knife. Also, the guy with the bayonet is still holding a rifle. Not saying combat knives are useless but still.>>65583575I googled "MLOK bayonet mount" and this was the first picture that popped up. that particular one is made by SIG (gross) https://www.sigsauer.com/bayonet-mount-assembly-m-lok.html but I made this thread because I saw a guy posting an AK bayonet version they were making. Can't remember their name.>>65583929fact check true
>>65584791Imagine this but sized to fit on top of a suppressor
>>65584798Make socket bayonets great again
>>65583105This. A rifle by itself doesn't allow you to simply let someone kill himself by getting too close to you.
>>65584112All soldiers have armor now. A bayonet does limit your stabbing angles. Sorry, but that's reality.
>>65584795>In a theoretical 1v1, the guy with a bayonet affixed to a rifle will have an advantage versus a guy with only a knife. In a theoretical use case for a bayonet, the man using it is doing so because he's out of ammo. That means this is knife vs gun, which means the bayonet user is likely to lose.
>>65585147Wrong. Your bayonet stays affixed & you use it when you round a corner and an enemy is right þere, or you need to check a corpse, or you need to cow a civilian, or you need to have some standoff from a door, or you need to force a surrender.Infinite use cases in modern combat.
>>65585144I forgot that all soldiers wear NIJ Lv.4 rated scarves, pants, and hockey masks now.
>>65585343>round a corner and an enemy is right þereRifles for CQB are made as short as practicality permits, because it allows the gun to remain raised when passing through doorways. A bayonet is counterproductive to that, and not so useful on a short barrel anyway. >check a corpseWe don't check corpses by stabbing them because if they're holding a grenade, being stabbed tells them the we're close enough to be caught in the blast. >cow a civilianCivilians don't need bayonets to be policed. They need a gun pointed at them + loud commands. >some standoff from a doorBayonets are too long to provide the right standoff distance from a door, and muzzle devices provide a better purchase when braced into doors at an angle. >force a surrenderIf a person isn't surrendering from having a gun in their face, they're going to be very happy if you get close enough to stab them, so don't do that.
>>65585395Even the sheetmetal, paintball cope armor that russians get is enough to stop knives.
>>65582769Bayonets are great for crowd control creation of space in civil emergencies. Nobody wants to be pushed into one when the crowd surges a little. When soldiers and police are reluctant to shoot for a variety of reasons, but are willing to wound and maim, the bayonet works well. As a front line tool? The bayonet doesn’t make a lot of sense.
>>65585405Whose we? Our training involved two riflemen checking the body, one security in case the guy was playing possum, the other guy checking. Even had one of the procedures rolling the body over and rolling it back over in case of a grenade booby trap. Just bayonetting the fucker in the neck solves this crap, or shooting him (waste if he's dead) if he tries to shoot you but has his timing off.
>>65585408Your reading comprehension sure couldn't stop a knife.
>>65582769current gen forend dont seem to be very well attached to the receiver, the bayonet might lose its zero.
>>65582769Hopefully the last rifles with bayonet lugs have already been adopted. Maybe now the military can adopt actual utility knives or multitools as standard instead of trying to shoehorn everything into one tool. >>65583101They hated him because he spoke the truth. >>65583144Just pull the trigger, dumbass. >>65583569It’s even easier to use your gun as a gun. >>65583575Geissele made (makes?) one.
>>65585441You know your statement wrong. Just admit it and learn from it.
>>65583105>anon she never did a treach clearing before.heh.rookies are so easy to spot.
>>65583101in treach warfare they don';t care if your pointing your gun a man angry who wants to kill you is far different than a city slicker cop.
>>65582769>At what point do you think the last "new" rifle with a bayonet lug will be selected by a modern military? That will happen exactly 7.5 years before a new war with a critical need for bayonets happens.
>>65583790Reach is one of the most important aspects of weapons melee. The longer weapon usually wins.
>>65585408>>65585473Russian soldiers aren't dressed up as ghetto-ass tinmen, so that's not a good argument either.
>>65587973Yeah they are. Their real armor is steel plate with kevlar. Their fake armor is hard plastic, which inhibits stabs that aren't very forceful.
>>65588136Are they decked in head to fucking toe in fucking steel plate? Full faced steel helmet, full steel leg armor, steel neck guards? Because that's actual the argument being made, if you're willing to pay attention.
>>65585405>Civilians don't need bayonets to be policed. The bayonet on a rifle works way better than just a rifle. Infinitely better.
>>65588328No, that's what you said. Are you okay, dude?
