According to Joe Kent, at least in Iraq, it was mostly tacit, essentially looking the other way when an Iranian-backed militia was attacking an ISIS/Sunni radical group and might even have called in an airstrike prior to the battle to give them an advantage and there was an informal system for avoiding clashes between US backed forces and Iranian-backed militias

I still don't know who's man that guy is. He ran for office in my district years ago and nobody could figure out where his money came from. The company he worked for only existed on paper, he had no hours, his own campaign manager quite because he didn't trust him, he just moved in to the area from Oregon in time to try and replace the previous rep who voted to impeach Trump (and ended up turning the fucking district blue in the process by acting like a retard).

Former intelligence operative who worked in Iraq and Syria during GWOT and the war against ISIS, he was once part of Trump’s inner circle before resigning over what he viewed as an ineffective strategy toward Iran. Over time he’s gone from holding fairly sensible positions to embracing Carlson’s brand of right-wing third worldism. Whether he always held these views or developed them under Carlson’s influence is hard to say.

It’s a relationship of highs and lows. In the aftermath of the gulf war, things were about as “decent” as they could be, particularly when it came to containing Iraq and Afghanistan. Hell in 2001 Iran even offered to cooperate with the US invasion and occupations. Things started to sour with Ahmadinejad’s election and went completely downhill after the green movement protests were brutally crushed.
Still, for whatever reason, certain people in the government seem to like them. diplomats, former special forces and intelligence operatives hold them in high regard. I have no idea why.

Brownoids are gonna brownoid. No reason to trust them as far as you could throw one. I’d say nuke em all just to see what happens. Better than letting this fake and gay world persist as it does because of their perfidy.

You have my full support if you nuke the tiny-hat country too. Go ahead and reply. Let's see what kind of shill you are.

Let me guess, your strategy for dealing with China is some variation of bombing the Three Gorges Dam or indulging in a masturbatory fantasy of mass death, rather than actually confronting the challenge through a coherent long-term strategy. You know, strengthening regional alliances in East Asia, committing sufficient resources to deterrence and rebuilding America's industrial base by using targeted industrial policy, strategic government investment and incentives to reshore critical manufacturing while reducing dependence on Chinese production.
But you'll dismiss these approaches as "fake and gay" then turn around and insist that your fantasy of bombing things and fighting a war with China(that's totally going to happen). You're just as delusional as the Western leftists.

America-led global hegemony has helped keep the world relatively safe and united for the past 70 years. Iranian and Russian territorial annexation and direct military rule are unlikely to end well, they risk destabilizing the world order and dragging nations into pointless conventional wars. The issue of Israel must be addressed, but Israel is also a nation seeking to ensure its own survival. An effective deterrence strategy should be more than sufficient to prevent escalation without plunging the region into a wider conflict.

Seems to me like your typical politician worm-person who will happily do a heel face turn the second it seems like doing so will get him one tiny scrap more for himself. If it becomes fashionable to do so I'd expect a full 180 as soon as he can get away with it.

I would say it’s because the only people who listen to him and validate his views are those who have these political beliefs and he absorbs them almost unintentionally. That’s why I feel that after this whole war, Hegseth is going to become some type of Iranian shill. I think all they’ll have to do is tell him that he was a worthy opponent and since he’ll likely be hated by much of America, that validation could make the switch in his loyalties very easy for him to process mentally.

NTA

But I think we should have been doing those things that you mentioned 47 years ago. and not "suddenly 2026"
