whats the point of the loader having an MG?
shouldn't he be loading the cannon instead of plinking with a .30 cal?

Gives you an extra machine gun for when whatever you're shooting at isn't particularly appropriate for the main gun for whatever reason.
>>
>>65585890
Gee, Bill. Why does your mom let you mount TWO machine guns?
>>
>>65585890
but they already have the co-ax and .50 for that
>>
>>65585898
Redundancy is important in combat roles, tertiary systems are not uncommon.
>>
>>65585898
There is no overkill. Only open fire and reload.

The coax MGs movement is limited to the main gun movement. In restricted terrain like urban environments or dense forests, you may not always be able to rotate the turret leaving you with only one machine gun. A tank can easily carry an extra machine gun unlike an infantry platoon, so you may as well keep it.

More machine guns is usually better than less machine guns. Tanks also get the majority of their kills with MGs.

If you pull a couple pins, you can take the .30 cal with you if you ever have to leave the tank behind for whatever reason, which is much harder with the 50 or the coax.

The weird lighting gives this a touched up ArmA Refunder screenshot look.

>tank: 4 pairs of eyes looking for man-sized targets
>infantry squad: 10 pairs of eyes looking for a tank-sized target
even with the gunner having thermals this isn't a good outlook. that's also why tanks need infantry cover to survive.

Impoverished opinion, go away

Didnt it turn out keeping your head out of the vehicle is just asking to get snip'd?

>what's the poing of coax
>shouldn't the gunner be scanning for threats?
>what's the point of .5
>shouldn't the commander be managing the battlespace coordinating with other units?

WAsn't that just another scheme to sell the engine to get more mods made?
>>

I would assume in the next 30 years or less they will be phased out for a vidya gam style of remote operated turret, but one that also acts as automated drone defense.
Basically instead of using dedicated APS with limited uses on things like (compared to an RPG etc) hilariously slow moving FPVs or drone dropped grenades you have a turret that can shoot them down automatically using either a small caliber lightweight MG ie; SAW designed to be light so the turret can whip around at high speed to target drones up close or some kind of .50bmg or larger turret that uses fused rounds to hopefully knock them out of the air before they can even get close. (I'm not enough of a nerd to know if you could make a .50 that has enough payload for meaningful airburst so you may need to go bigger)

Or ideally you'd have both, some tanks with lighter pseudo-APS turrets and some with heavier pseudo-AA turrets, since the AA ones could also do useful stuff like spanking recon drones.

it's a different configuration from a standard M240

There is a hatch there, might as well have a gun, not like they can't afford it.

Lol I refunded it after 20 minutes

>whats the point of the loader having an MG?
Shooting off human waves. American tanks not having enough MGs to fight off masses of infantry was an issue in Korea and Vietnam, so they added a third one when designing the Abrams to account for that.
>>
>>65585870
Machine guns are kind of like aircraft: Two is one. One is none.
>>
>>65585898
It astounds me that you thought you had a point.

MORE DAKKA
>>
>>65586325
True, but you can still easily take it with you, and an awkward to use MG is often better than no MG.
>>
>>65586061
Ironically the only time this wasn't the case was when tanks were primitive barely-functional shitboxes.
>>
>>65586538
is there any other MBT with a MG for the loader standard?
>>
>>65586827
Not him but it's very odd you advocate going into battle LESS well armed. Post your hand and outlet, boy

More MGs! And bring back the mini-MG turrets British/Soviet tanks had! And the rear-of-turret ones Japan had!
