>ben rich claims that the skunkworks put out a better demonstrator than this
I call bullshit. Senior Peg had a tail and was also faceted instead of smooth. No way did they beat Northrop on every metric.

People treat their favorite defense contractor like their favorite sports team, doubly when they actually worked their. Northrop Grumman fans are just as bad, as can be seen from their spamming the internet about how F/A-XX “needed to be a new Tomcat” or was going to be some kind of YF-23 derivative despite the design really not being at all suited for a carrier

>some kind of YF-23 derivative despite the design really not being at all suited for a carrier
why wouldn't it?

Basically the intakes are designed in such a way that they would cause the engines to inhale water causing the engines to run too cool and ultimately the plane would realize there's nothing to be angry about and go find a new life in the wild

It was a land based air superiority fighter with a design that gave absolutely zero thought to carrier operations. NATF was an attempt to brute force something that resembled YF-23 into being able to operate off a carrier, but the Navy was never very interested in it and the expense of adapting the design likely would’ve been about as expensive as a clean sheet aircraft, at which point you’d have been better off just starting from scratch with a design tailored for carrier operations. It’s like if the Navy had to go with F-15N for whatever reason. Could the design be adapted for carrier decks? Possibly. Would it have done the job as well as something designed from the start to do so? Probably not.

Tail doesn't necessarily mean worse stealth tho

There is simply no way to hide that you are a furry if you wear a tail in public anon.
