I think they are still great. They go for like 25 cents now a round. Ammo and guns for them are everywhere. 180 grain are subsonic and perfect for suppressors. Having a blast with my USP in 40 cal.

The mighty milimeter has always been it bro. Fruitful ammo stocks during the coof, naturally subsonic .40 as you mention and 10mm is so powerful it can cause proximal butthurt.

This alsonclearly shows the .40/10mm noticeably bigger than the 9mm while being nesr identical to the .45
The best of both large bore and high capacity.

Unfortunately the properties of human flesh renders the advantages of .40Short and Weak to be quite miniscule in comparison to the trade offs of using it over 9MM. Availability and the wide offering of guns chambered in the round being one of them.

I hated my USP 40 but I'm still a strong advocate for 40, especially if you live somewhere where everyone travels by car everywhere and the likelihood of you getting into a shooting involving a car is very likely

Why did you hate it? I sometimes wonder 'what if' I went with a USP and not my Baby Eagle. I chose Glonk as my 10mm, G40 naturally.
>>
It exists.
>>
>>65588530
Hate is a strong word, but it's trigger is pretty bad and it just overall feels cheaper than its hyped up to be. Also the only natively compatible light is the TLR-3. Mag release is really nice though, I like the paddle. Also the decocker safety, while placed in an imperfect position, is really nice to allow you to carry either cocked and locked, decocked, or decocked with the safety on. I like having options and the V1 trigger gives you all of them

it will still be around like 25 and 32 acp. pick up cheap models if you can. Also .40 die hards are just salty contrarians currently. Be honest.
>>
>>65588279
It's breddy good. I have a few .40 guns and it really got me by during the Obama panic buying eras. It was always on the shelf when nothing else was and I got pretty well used to it. The only downside is they hold 1 or 2 fewer rounds than 9mm, but it's not a big deal.

That sounds fair. I like the decocker safety on mine and the USP was like $200 more at the time so i went with the Baby Eagle. I really want a 1911 in 10mm, threaded barrel preferably.

How did the V series reverse their decision when they were already phasing them out?
>>
Its fine. Pistol ammo is basically all the same shit. Do what makes you happy. The differences won't matter unless you are trying to shoot targets at 100m or more.
>>
>>65590302
Most girls can barely handle 9mm
There's only a few girls that can handle .40
And the only girl I really fell in love with was one of them

Is the taurus th series a viable poor man's USP? How durable are they?
>>
>>65590515
>taurus th series
Does not look like it at all? Only thing it follows for the USP is that it is hammer fired.

Doesn't even come with a threaded barrel anywhere so it is kinda a dude.
>>
>>65590481
But some pistols, when you put an extra cylinder on the end of them, goes quiet with a thud.

40 180 grain is subsonic and cheaper then subsonic 9mm

AND? What's the problem?
>>
new kuna in .40
>>
>>65589844
.40 has been slowly fading from the market for a long time now, it's part of why there's certain benefits for true .40 fanboys to reap as others are abandoning it, like ammo drought resistance, or very cheap leftover pistols.

I never loved .40, but it literally works fine, and now has certain economic benefits, it's a good way to score a nice spare pistol with a small stockpile of reserve ammo. If you get a metal framed .40 like a Ruger, Beretta, or Hi-Power, then the recoil is outright mild, too.
>>
>>65590568
For modern service pistols it's true, make a good hit with good ammo, and it's gonna do pretty much the same job, the margins really aren't that big on this matter. Platt wouldn't have gone down appreciably faster if they had 10mm pistols, he would still have time to kill 6 FBI agents, and injured 2 more.
>>
>>65588279
I like my 40 quite a bit. I got it for a steal too which I promptly spent replacing the half dozen 10 rounders it came with for standard caps. I can use all the same holsters and accessories as my 9, ammo is plentiful & pretty cheap, has just enough kick to feel know you're shooting something.

I have the 45 not 40, but I've heard good things about the Osprey. I went Obsidian 45.
>>
>>65591395
I recommend the mojave 45 if you got the chance. A dedicated 40 can is going to be impossible to find.

I would get the egw dovetail reddot adapter. Alot of people don't trust dovetails, but put a thin layer of threadlocker in the joints and it will stay.
>>
>>65591395
osprey 45 is expensive for a can that is very mediocre for suppressing sound. I heard alot of mixed reviews for it. I would just get a well reviewed 45 cal can.
>>
>>65588279
I don't care about the price, just the versatility and performance. 40 S&W is a good round. In fact, ALL ammo on the market right now is pretty good. It's just about what you're using it for.

I use 44 Special myself.

Hasn't been relevant since the coof. There was a big stockpile of it sitting around in 2020 because law enforcement was phasing it out, sure, but consumption has outpaced that stockpile and production has significantly wound down on .40 S&W since the 2010s.

People act like .40 destroys your gun and will only last a few hundred rounds vs 9mm lasting tens of thousands when both last very long if the gun isnt a piece of shit. They also act like the recoil difference between .40 and 9 is astronomical rather than very slight, and with +p and +p+ basically non existant
>>
>>65597890
>.40 destroys your gun in a fraction of the time and has 10 times the recoil as 9mm
>it also is weaker than 9mm in terminal effect
Make it make sense.

>>65597890
>the recoil difference
Recoil impulse. aka velocity+force of recoil
That's the difference.
.40 pistols need to be designed for it, you can't just slap it into an older 9 mm handgun
