Not if the purpose and functionality of your knife is to cut and stab people. When I carry a defensive knife, it's not for chopping wood, 550 cord, or opening cans or MRE's.

Cold Steele SRK bought before 1st A-stan deployment back in the day. Good knife. Cheap, can hold an edge, tip never broke after throwing it at a variety of different shit. Stayed in my armor through A-stan and Iraq deployments. Was a great buy. Don't know how they hold up these days since they moved manufacturing locales and changed the steele.
>>
>>65598180

>>65599185
There's 0 reason for your combat knife and your survival knife to not be the same knife. 0. If you cannot defend yourself or kill someone with a kabar or similar blade then you cannot do so with a double edge knife either.
>>
>>65599240
>There's 0 reason for your combat knife and your survival knife to not be the same knife. 0
I don't need a "survival knife" in my suburban/urban environment when I'm doing whatever, I need a knife I can jam into your fucking neck to rip out all the bits that keep your dumb ass alive should I not be able to access my gun. Thanks for your concern, though.
>>
Basics of combat survival knife:

>6"-8" blade. 6" is minimum for combat and numerous survival techniques. 8" is maximum for concealed carry and CQC.

>Full crossguard to block an opponent's weapon and avoid injuring your own hand on the blade if you have to thrust with wet hands or a compromised grip.

>Carbon or low alloy tool steel with a soft heat treatment that will hold up to hard use and can be sharpened with anything.

>Broad tang with no stress risers or weak spots.

>5mm spine/stock thickness minimum.

>Single edged. This should go without saying.

> Optional bonus features: lanyard hole, hammerable butt cap or tang protrusion, hard plastic sheath.

Cold Steel Drop Forged survivalist has by my #1 for about six years and superior to just about anything out there. It's the knife that made me stop buying knives.

Doesn't matter. There is no difference between a good combat knife and a good survival knife. Select the best specimen of the former, and you have automatically selected the best specimen of the latter. Double edged blades are and always have been a fashion statement and they have no advantage whatsoever.

I have one of these and it's decent for the price point but you can feel how light it is and I wouldn't trust it to baton wood.

>>
>>65599274
>Weak tang

>Too short

>Sawback is useless

>Threaded pommel will snap off if used for hammering

Be sure to at least cut that useless whetstone pocket off the sheath so you can actually carry the thing

nta but daggers are optimal for combat and assassinations, but they obviously limit the knife to really only those uses.

far easier to jam picrel into a sentry's aorta than a 6" blade with a fat tang and flat spine
>>

It's fun to see posts like this when in reality I've owned one for +20 years and it has received extremely hard use without breaking or failing on me at all.
>>
>>65599285
Because it is inexpensive, easy to replace, ubiquitous, and gives me great reach with its long blade. It's also not special to me in any way so I can leave it in my car 24/7 and if some negroid breaks in and steals it I won't be bummed out over the loss of a nice and expensive knife.
>>
>>65599283
No they're not. Any increase in penetration is marginal at best. Penetration is dictated primarily by tip geometry and sharpness. With a single edged knife you can eliminate any drag created by the spine by holding the knife edge-in, the rotational arc of the stabbing motion causes the edge to cut enough clearance for it's own width and the spine doesn't push against tissue. This doesn't even require any practice. You can test this yourself on stacks of cardboard or anything else. But a good single edged geometry shouldn't even require this.
>>
>>65599289
Hard use like what? Opening Amazon packages? I've turned 8"+ diameter trees into finished piles of firewood with my knives.
>>
>>65599292
There are vastly better knives for the same price. You would know that if you did any research or had any experience whatsoever. Just go on Knifecenter and filter by the blade length you want and almost anything you see will be better than that home Depot piece of shit.
>>
>>65599292

I hate serrations on blades they are useless 99% of the time. Only exception are rescue knives where you're basically just cutting ropes or webbing.
That knife would be impossible to sharpen too...
>>
>>65599436
Skill issue. Fully serrated edges mog plain edges in almost every way. They still cut shit even when they're "dull" and you only have to sharpen them every 15 years.
>>

23 KB JPG
>>65599479
They don't really cut shit though, they just shred and smoosh it. Not to mention they're a PITA to sharpen. Most knives don't come sharp out of the box either so you're either starting with a sub-par edge or you're suffering through sharpening serrations as soon as you get your new knife.
>>
>>65599492
Spyderco and Cold Steel are some of the only knife companies that make serrations worth a damn admittedly but they've always been sharp out of the box for me.

At first I thought it was just a defect from the factory, but then I found out it was intentional...for reasons unknown.

plenty of states have laws against double edged blades.
if its like that from the factory then a fuckload of consumers cant buy your shit and its more complicated to sell your shit. meanwhile a false edge is cheaper to produce with no legal downsides.

you are a retard if you can't see the advantages of a dagger.

>With a single edged knife you can eliminate any drag created by the spine by holding the knife edge-in
Now you can't slash with it, and you need to memorize how to change grips to keep track of where your cutting edge is. With a dagger you don't need to keep track of your grip because it has two edges. With two edges you can also cut in all sort of ways that you can't with a single edge knife.

>b-but you can't baton or peel potatoes with a dagger
You can't, but we are talking about combat here. And nobody is stopping you from carrying a dagger and a small utilitarian folder knife at the same time.
>>
>>65605948
