>served 30 years
>used in exactly 0 air battles
kek this plane will literally be retired before seeing a single use.
>>
>>65599063
That's not true. It shot down a balloon that one time.
>>
>>65599063
Hey now it shot at a balloon once, never forget the battle of balloons
>>
It's going to take ~10+ years for the F-47 production to replace the entire F-22 fleet, so it'll likely remain in service until 2040-ish.
>>
The money wasted on this useless hangar queen would have funded all 32 Zumwalts, by the way.
>>
>>65599074
I think they could keep it up to 2100 and it still wouldn't see a war.
>>
>>65599078
Probably true, but the cost to keep it in service after the F-47 fleet is built just isn't worth the ROI.
>>
>>65599063
We basically have zero lines dedicated to keeping these maintained as there's only about 150 of them, why bother when there's over a thousand F-35s, foreign nations purchase the F-35 and they're more modern?
>>
>>65599063
It terrifies anyone who would be considered "near-peer". Shamefur.
>>
>>65599063
Deterrence through technological domination may be boring, but it's effective
>>
>>65599063
i'd say that it might be an insurance policy that's worth it
>>
>>65599152
The F-35 is better but sure, it's the 40% readiness rate hangar queen which terrifies everyone.
>>
>>65599169
>F-22 is a hangar queen at 40% readiness
>F-35 is superior with its 44% readiness
Yeah, sure, OK.

F-22 is American T-14 meme garbage at this point. F-15 is still king with F-35 being its fine succesor.
>>
>>65599063
>30 years

how does i math
>>
>set out to create incomparable air superiority fighter
>is so far ahead of enemy aircraft that even in the twilight of its career nobody fighting it can get something into the air against it
>third worlders want me to believe this is a bad thing
It’s done better than its designers would’ve dared to hope. Killing an enemy still on the ground or even scaring them so badly they won’t come out to challenge you when it’s known you’re around are far better outcomes than allowing the enemy to take a shot at you.
>>
>>65599200
There are 9x as many F-35s as there are F-22s my dear retard, and it has been proven in combat whereas the F-22 fell the great beast which was a fucking balloon.

its so good, nobody could/would challenge it. thats a win.
there were situations where other nations could try to paint the f22 and nobody has ever tried to downplay it, that says all you need to hear.

Greatest air battle over continental US… …ever.
>>
>>65599063
The greatest duelist ever, but never got to fight a single duel. Raptor is a tragic figure
>>
>>65599344
You don't win an air campaign via 1v1s, in a battle between 10 F-22s and 10 F-35s it's the latter that will win because they can work together better than the F-22s ever could.
>>
>>65599314
>m-m-my dear retard
You're the idiot who brought up readiness without checking. Is the thirdie upset? Oh yes, he's very upset.
>>
>>65599266
>F-15 is still king with F-35 being its fine succesor.
the F-15 will outlive the F-35
>>
>>65599169
>he thinks readiness rate matters
Lmao
>>
>>65599381
Even though the F-35 has nearly the exact same readiness that still means there are multiple times more that could be flown than the F-22, and of course my primary point is that it's a better aircraft, which it is. But sure, "Thirdie melty" or whatever generic insult you have to use to cope.

Fuel is expen$ive, man.
>>
>>65599063
it has been used in numerous air campaigns.

>>65599078
It has seen plenty of war.

It's not the F-22's fault that US forces are too good, the trump card never gets to do anything more than lurk.
>>
>>65602641
>US forces are too good
Strait status?
>>
>>65599063
zero air battles because the F-22 was such massive overmatch that no one dared to donate their air fleet to the scrapyard throughout its service life
>>
>>65599426
>expensive and unproven F-35
>F-15 that crumbles in the air if a turn is just a little too tight
Both are shit and the F-5 will outlast both. We should really be doing a buy back of all other air force's F-5s. Also the F-4 retirement was a fucking mistake and it would kick derka derka ass harder than any nancy boy 4th or 5th gen.
>>
>>65599063
Will it outlive the F-15?
>>
>>65602666
F-16 does the job of both the F-4 and F-5 fine. And even it's starting to get long in the tooth.
>>
>>65602662
closed to iran and nobody else, my angry, brown retard friend.
>>
>>65602666
pierre sprey stop escaping from hell, this is like the third time.
>>
>>65603231
>>65603252
F-16 is okay but honestly the F-5 did the job just as well. The YA-7F should have been serving in alongside the F-5. Would have been the perfect aircraft. One can dream.
>>
>>65603829
F5 combat radius is less than half of the viper’s (not counting cfts etc)
>>
>>65599063
>this is a bad thing somehow
>>
Never understood this thing some people said that the tooling to produce them was destroyed but it just doesn't make sense.
Anyone has any idea ? Looks like most of you believe that it's still better than anything else but I don't really believe that, am I wrong ?
It never fought , why ? It shouldve been sent at least to gather data on its performances
>>
>>65599063
It's kind of like the F-106, or F-102. Designed to be super fighters against the Soviet's best threats but didn't have to do a whole lot. The F-22 is basically the F-106 of the present day.
>>
>>65603962
>Anyone has any idea ?
Production line got shutdown and its assets were retooled for the F-35. Tooling doesn't get "destroyed" necessary
>>
>>65599149
It may look similar but the plane serves a different purpose. Educate yourself on that purpose and you'll see why it makes sense to have both.
>>65599266
Oh hey another idiot that doesn't understand

Do people just like the sound of your own voice? Why would you mouth off and form an opinion on something when you don't even grasp the fundamentals?
>>
>>65599063
in hindsight it was an incredibly stupid idea to abandon the F-22.

fuck Francis Fukuyama, fuck peace.
PEER WAR NOW!

>>

anon. F-15Ex in an actual battlefield with all the sensor support the F-35 would also get: would delete the F-35. Completely unsupported, B7R style? F-35 gets an advantage for stealth, but the sensors on an EX do some work.
>>
>>65604212
1996-2026. It started manufacturing in 1996, anon. F22s are psycho hags.
>>
>>65603875
>F5 combat radius is less than half of the viper’s (not counting cfts etc)
It isn't. I assume you're getting this off Wikipedia where the F16 combat radius is 300nm for a strike mission with bombs and F5 combat radius is 150nm for a CAS mission with a similar payload of bombs. CAS missions include loiter time at low altitude, strike missions don't. The difference is, like, 10% for a comparable mission profile. Also it's pretty wild wanting to compare a Viper to an unupgraded F5, but anyway.

>The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor officially entered service with the United States Air Force on December 15, 2005, as the F-22A.

Production isn't service.
