Is this a good job, /k/?
>>65600326meh
>>65600326You'll never have a family or social life, and what little personal time you get you'll spend drinking alone in a hotel room looking at all your friends that you never keep in touch with on Facebook as they live fulfilling lives. DC is a genuine shithole but NOVA is an even worse dystopian hellscape, not that it matters much because whatever home time you get will immediately be ruined by a midnight phone call ordering you back to work because whichever entitled shithead you're charged with protecting had a last minute idea to fly out to LA to go clubbing. You'll constantly think about quiting and trying life in some small town police department but the federal money is just too good and you're already that much closer to retirement so why not just ride it out. You'll justify this with the idea that some day you'll take all your money and buy a house somewhere quiet but deep down the idea of starting a new life terrifies you. All the old heads that have retired or lat moved have either killed themselves or have crippling drug issues, and you dread the day that it'll be your turn.t. knower of things
>>65600326True /k/ommandos are unemployed
>>65600683yeah but that describes like 2/3 of all career paths so the only catch is living in the DC area
>>65600856>but that describes like 2/3 of all career pathsWhy does muttmerican zogbot tend to get crippling drug addiction and suicidal thought?? Why doesn't it happen to any soldier from other country, like rusia and china for example.
>>65600881>like rusia and china for example.
>>65600683>I suffer having had friends at some point
>>65600926NOrthern VArginia
>>65600881shut the FUCK up brownoid
>>65600926who dis?
>>65600683Sounds a bit dramatic...
I am, albeit not because of being a fed, privy to special knowledge about various fed agencies.Secret service is apparently pretty gay. The guys that do it are, for the most part, a little bit posh for lack of a better word. Even their tactical unit is kinda meh, and you're liable to get stuck guarding a shithead. You're better off going with the Marshalls, FBI, or Border Patrol
>>65600881because you fags don't do any fighting LOL!
>>65601267Sounds boring af honestly
>>65601312My cohort made it sound that way. Not only a shitty detail for the officers, but they're kinda soup sandwiches and suck to be around. But if you're trying to make your way into an elite social circle (terrible idea if you're using policing to do this), it may be serviceable
>>65600326They only hire prior military for those positions. Anyone getting into CAT without mil is from the Uniformed Division.t. someone who applied and they told me to join UD
>>65601267>Secret service is apparently pretty gay. The guys that do it are, for the most part, a little bit posh for lack of a better wordYou probably mean the Special Agent positions, everyone is undermanned and overworked
>>65600326>GL-07, GL-09, or the GS-11 levelAt best, that's only $63k starting pay, anon.If you've got special operations or prior law enforcement experience, you can do way better than that in the private sector.
>>65600683no, that's TOO much know...
>>65601592Did you join UD?
>>65601617Not yet but I'm thinking about, the only thing that turns me off is the pay and the criminal levels work UD has to do. They pretty much have 6 day weeks and 1 day off. And apparently the current Admin makes it worse with having a shit ton of events and people to protect compared to previous ones.>>65601602it's $77 now but it's still not enough to live in DC
>>65601602Yep, regular 60 hour weeks ain't no big deal and that pay suuuuuuccckkksss, especially for DC. It is expected and they will bring it up in your first meeting with them a lot. Being fed you will get a locality boost for the area but it will barely matter.Yes I know SS is all over the place but statistically you will be in DC/NOVA area. Absolute shitholes.I used to live in a shitty paper thin wall apartment a couple of exits down from Dulles and it was $1700 a month - 22 years ago.You will have no life at all or you will be on the way to divorce if you got married before. When away (travel for class, pre/post team) and off duty you will hit the tittybar or local equivalent every night. Awesome in your 20s but in your 40s it is sad as fuck. - Remember the pay sucks so you ain't going to be balling when in there. Look up the stories of the agents regularly getting arrested on trips. These guys arrested are LEO so they usually walk. It happens a whole lot - those are just the edge cases who showed their ass a little too much.Guys with no social lives or collapsing marriages knowing they have the skills and training to make a ton more but are doing that job - mainly for the title and 'that is so cool'. They are some fun people to be around.Somebody above mentioned CAT having to have the specific background for. You also need that or as an in for even an SA position with them. -SA's used to primarily be accountants/lawyers but after 2000 they started adding a lot of tech since that is the SS purview.I went to the interview in my local town (no idea they had an office there) on my own but was fortunately slack and didn't make a call I was supposed to make to someone I knew before it. Spared me a lot of headaches.
>>65601731The insane part is that your local PD pays more and has a better work life balance than most Federal LEOs
>>65601745No way this is true
>>65601731Is working as an actual glowie as bad as this?
>>65601752Not a glowie but I did contract for DoJ for a few years a long time ago.
>>65601749from the other leo thread, DPD starts out at $81k
>>65601602I'm really at a loss for why they don't pay Secret Service guys like $200k+. Adding a few million to the federal budget would be absolutely trivial, while the costs of underpaying the President's bodyguards is obvious in terms of making them vulnerable to corruption.
>>65601784There's one party that truly believes that they shouldn't make decent pay. It's the same people that constantly shit on air traffic controllers for getting paid a decent wage.
>>65600326No, serving a political office is just defending the rape of the country.
>>65601731>didn't make a call I was supposed to make to someone I knew before itWere they gonna put in a good word for ya?Also, is it one of those things you can do for a year as a nice resume filler?
>>65600326I've seen worse
>>65601880Lame as that is, yeah. I was actually told specifically told to reach out to them before I went in for an initial interview (if I got one) before it. It was about six months later before I got around to it - really only a month after applying. It was in a bootcamp IT classes that went on for several weeks and there were a group of them. That was pretty common way back then and they would always jsut say they were gov but not specify or would hint it was FBI. Asking how long they were with the Treasury would have them talk more separate.Years ago as I said, SS hasn't been Treasury since sometime back around 9/11.Been with other feds and others like that in classes were never as awkward about it.--No idea on the time frames required but I am sure it takes way more an investment than that.I assume there is the basic Fed LEO that all go through and then the Personal Protection stuff. Then probably a lot further specialized depending what they are going to task you with for that few years. Not sure how exactly that works but I think they get reassigned every few years - unless you are on a protection and the really like you.-Ladybird Johnson was still alive at the time and that was mentioned as an easy but not particularly wanted detail (brought up during interview).
>>65600326Sure if your goal in life is to live in the low income suburbs surrounding dc
>>65600326this is pretty furfag-coded anonbest avoid
>>65603071Dang. Didn't even realise that was a paw
