>invents stealth
>>65600457Wrong.
>has lower rcs than an F-35
>>65600457fucking retard
>>65600457>1st & 2nd gen stealth was flying wings>thus all flying wings are stealthNo.
>>65600463>>65600483>>65600491it's a meme you dip
>>65600457No, but they had some real shit with 1st gen AIP though
The Horten Ho 229’s radar cross section (RCS) was measured by Northrop Grumman, using a full-size replica built for the National Geographic documentary Hitler’s Stealth Fighter. The replica was mounted five stories up at a test range in the Mojave Desert and scanned by radar from every angle. The most cited result is that the Horton’s RCS was significantly smaller (60% smaller to be precise) than that of the Luftwaffe’s mainstay fighter the Messerschmitt Bf 109. symscapeOther reports give different numbers. The Engineer described a radar cross section only 40 per cent that of conventional aircraft, and another write-up put it at roughly 80% of a Bf 109’s radar visibility. So the exact figure depends on the source, but they agree it was well below conventional fighters of the time, though not invisible
>>65600497So you made a thread for a single shitty meme, fuck off.
>>65600504the smaller radar echo of the Horten reduced Britains warning time from 20 to 2 minutes.pretty little time to get interceptors up before another blitz.
>>65600504so the national socialist did invent stealth then.
>>65600536>make smaller plane>has smaller RCS
>>65600536yes they did, and they turned your gramp into a hot dog without a bun>>65600504>>65600528i wonder how much more stealthy the earlier prop version was, or is the spinning prop acting like a vertical reflecting area in this case?
>>65600504Because of how radar maths works, RCS needs to be reduced dramatically before you see any significant reduction in detection range. Detection range is proportional to the quartic root of the RCS .e.g reducing RCS down to 40% only reduces detection range to 80% i.e. a pretty marginal improvement given how long radar detection ranges are. Even the >99% RCS reduction on real stealth aircraft compared to conventional designs only cuts down detection range by 70-80%.
>1944>Germans build flying wing out of plywood and charcoal glue>Reimar Horten tests it on radar, it's basically invisible>Air Ministry panics, buries the whole program>Americans "capture" it in '45, suddenly Northrop is making the B-2>mfw the Ho 229 was literally the first stealth bomber and the USAF has been lying to you for 80 years
>>65600457LOL wehraboos.
>>65600457>stealth>picture of non-stealth planeWhat did anon mean by this?
>>65600457i wonder if the US got the designers via Operation Paperclip
>yes it has lower rcs but you see, stealth is when ugly deformites on the plane and it costs 500x its real value, and its made by locksneed marten
>>65600580>the Ho 229 was literally the first stealth bomber>literally no bomb bay or racks for external ordnance or any other way for it to actually carry any bombs
>>65600637Correct, there was no intention to ever iterate the design. It was set in stone.
>>65600457>Northrop N-1M
>>65600497you ncaa gold medal in dick sucking is also just a meme, right faggot?
>>65600457Northrop was too based for his time. The U.S. Air Force ordered Northrop to stop work and destroy its revolutionary Flying Wing aircraft (such as the XB-35 and YB-49) between 1949 and 1950
>>65600637That's what they want you to think.
>>65600457How did the nazis do it? Just invent everything? From assault rifles to moon rockets. Everything since then has been just refining what they started.
Wehraboos should be physically beaten with books about Goddard and Northrop.
>>65600580>suddenly Northrop is making the B-2Not only did you skip over the fact that the F-117 was developed before the B-2, Jack Northrop was developing flying wings before the US even entered the war.
>>65601168I love that little story about revealing the B2 to Jack Northrop on his deathbed. I hope it was true.>Per wiki>Northrop dabbled in real estate and lost much of his personal fortune. In 1976, with his health failing, he felt compelled to communicate to NASA his belief in the low drag high lift concept inherent in the flying wing. NASA replied that the idea had technological merit, encouraging Northrop that his flying wing concepts had not been completely abandoned. By the late 1970s a variety of illnesses left him unable to walk or speak. Shortly before his death, he was given clearance to see designs and hold a scale model of the Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, which shared design features of his XB-35 and YB-49. The B-2, for example, has the same 172-foot wingspan as the jet-powered flying wing, YB-49. Northrop reportedly wrote on a sheet of paper "Now I know why God has kept me alive for 25 years". B-2 project designer John Cashen said, as he held this model in his shaking hands, it was as if you could see his entire history with the flying wing passing through his mind." He died ten months later.
>>65601339Sorry, obviously not death bed based on the fucking quote.
Obligatory "what blew up in Russia?"
>>65600548>is the spinning prop acting like a vertical reflecting areaYes.
>>65600580>Americans "capture" it in '45, suddenly Northrop is making the B-2> "capture" it in '45>suddenly Northrop is making the B-2>suddenly
The Northop N-1 development started in 1939.
>>65600457Nah, that was the Japs
>>65600580
>>65600467stealth fighters are gay
>>65600639There's no fucking space to put a meaningful bomb load, retard.>muh iterateYou want this thing to be a bomber? Try scrappign the whole design and doing a new one from scratch. That's the level of "iteration" you'll need.
