You better watch out, pops. My little sweet Sharona here is street legal now, you dig it, Daddy-O?

Oh, huh, they did that now? I suppose that's good, ne'er-do-wells were just gonna get and carry them anyway.

Someone should cut a storage compartment in the stock of a short barreled Mossberg 500 for storing a switchblade in.

The whole ban was based on mass hysteria over jeuvenile delinquents. Some senator watched too many wacky greaser gang movies down at the local Drive-In, and decided to remove the fun

Switches make ok enough pocket knives. Not as weapons (that's what guns are for), just as mundane erryday tools, opening letters, packages, snacks, etc.

When they started banning "ninja weapons". Semi-related: Knuckle dusters are illegal in more places than guns.
>>
>>65605431
Switchblades are weapons, and their deregulation, even if not very significant to many, is still on topic, you massive anal whore.
>>
>>65605508
you are replying to a false flagger, they are in multiple threads posting the same thing in broken english
>>
I think half of it is really just the coolness factor when you flick them open. It's a very aggressive action and intimidates someone. You are literally sending a message saying "I am going to harm you" without words.
>>
>>65605485
>Semi-related: Knuckle dusters are illegal in more places than guns.

Yes, these kind of things make no sense. "Here's your AR-15, sir, have a nice day. Wait, is that a knuckle duster? POLICE POLICE POLICE!"

You could argue that the less lethal weapon has more liklihood of being used in gang and hood activity, I guess? But if gangs or hoodlums want to fuck someone up to send a message, they just beat them with sticks or rods. The humble club has always been a fantastic melee weapon and is impossible to ban.

>>
>>65605648
The bans on switchblades and knuckle dusters kinda just function as a "fuck this particular social class/ethnic group." law, giving authorities more charges to tack on when they make arrests.
One could also argue that the bipartisan support of these types of concealed weapon regulation (be they bludgeons, knives, guns, etcetera) stems from a fear of being assassinated, something shared by anybody in a position of power.
>>
>>65605669
These are always related to gangs, and often inner city ethnic gangs. You can immediately picture Peutro Ricans in the 50s with switch blades, and shit like that. These kind of gangs seem quaint by today's standards, as black gangs just unload on someone with glock switches now.
>>
>>65605685
It's usually justified with combatting gang activity, but that type of legislation very rarely accomplishes that stated goal and feels way more useful in regards to putting boots on necks.
>>
>>65605139

>>

Yeah, they even have a whole country full of them in Europe
>>
>>65605731
I guess the switchblade ban worked after all. But now they will return...
>>
>>65605717
Whitey was afraid an ethnic would jump them with a concealed weapon like a switchblade or a knuckle duster. That's about it. Over-reactions to existing gangs, but these trends come and go, so 50-80 years later these bans look ridiculous.

My only complaint is how abruptly the movie ends; they leave the courthouse, music sting, fade to black. I like a little more denouement with my tense social drama.

It's really no question that Japanese pop culture had a strong westaboo/ameriboo streak at one time. Regardless of how you personally feel about it right now.

Why would I be scared of someone who only started carrying around a knife after it became legal? Dude's so scared the police might find a little knife on him he wouldn't carry one so obviously he's just some straight laced dude cosplaying a gangster

Im not here to make excuses for weapons bans, but from the hip id assume its because if you shoot someone, you probably undersood that it may kill them. A blackjack or a pair of knucks come with a steroytype of harmlessness, but may still prove lethal in just a couple of good swings
>>
>>65605485
>When they started banning "ninja weapons".
I rewatched 80s Ninja Turtles a while ago and immediately noticed when they took Michaelangelo's nunchucks away and replaced them with some lame little grappling hook. Later learned it was because of some controversy and weapon ban in the UK. Very silly stuff

It's funny to watch the law and order thin blue line respect muh authoritah people struggle to justify why laws against "other people" having weapons are totally fine good old common horse sense while laws against "my people" having weapons is literally like slavery and the holocaust combined and they come up with surreal statements like "restricting weapons actually makes a lot of sense and is totally logical, it's just that restricting weapons actually doesn't do shit and is just feel good knee jerkism", it must be incredibly fun to live in the fantasy world that is your mind
>>
>>65605139
Wasn't this the law about interstate commerce that nobody was following anyways? Even in my cuck state, switchblades have always been legal to carry. It just comes with a retarded caveat that you have to have a ccw.

Used to. The few Japs I know are zigtards or chinkshills and want America nuked, even in the ones I know in the JSDF. Shame, because I love my country, we might just need to drop a third bomb on them Japs to show them who's boss, if you don't mind me being so crass. I don't bring up politics around them, but it always comes up.

The most America loving Asians are usually the ones who saw the horrors of communism firsthand (Cambodians, Laotians, even Vietnamese). Just like a lot of Cubans love America among Hispanics (though Hispanics tend to be much more America positive overall).

In Cuba, Batista had legions of murderers, rapists, torturers and corrupt businessmen/politicians doing his bidding to hold onto power. I wonder where they all ran to after the revolution?

It doesn't dominate their culture, but cowboy stuff is absolutely popular abroad to varying degrees. Japs are like anyone else on that point, they see cowboys (and European knights) and think "Pretty cool!" in the same ways westerners look at samurai and ninjas and also think "Pretty cool!"

They don't have that whole Spaghetti Western thing, or Pietta and Pedersoli, where the Italians took it to another level, but there's manga and games about it. I'll also point towards the shared tropes between popular American cowboy fiction and popular Japanese samurai fiction, while not rooted super strongly in reality, the romanticized notions of both in art are very similar.
>>
>>65606320
90% of their most popular games are in some way influenced by either 70's or 80's American movies/music

Everything from resident evil to DMC and even monster hunter has some bit of Americana in it's blood.
>>
>>65606202
>>65606306
You say that, but most of the folks I know are pro-America, Cambodia, Vietnam, even Chinese, plus Czechs, Italians, Swedes, Spaniards, Tunisians, Brazilians, Colombians, Argentines. The Japs are bitter in my experience, I like them, just they don't like my country, which as I say, is a damn shame.
>>
>>65606354
>just they don't like my country

I said I love it, though. It is great and few other places have firearm laws as good as we do (Czech laws were changed to resemble American gun laws, so this should be a sign). Why would I bite the very hand that feeds me?

It was mostly a meme about ruffian youth coming home from the war with a devil-may-care attitude and being loud and obnoxious by driving their motorcycles and showing off the switchblades they picked up in Italy, which influenced exploitation films, which then scared the oldsters. And it's easier for a politician to latch onto a non-issue than it is to pass legislation that reduces inequality, which is the thing that actually reduces real crime.

Of course addressing inequality scares the rich, and we can't do that.
>>
>>65606612

More laws need to have expiration dates attached to them.
My state's criminal statutes have a bunch of laws that were very obviously a reaction to some moral panic and then they were forgotten about once it was over and almost no one ever got prosecuted for it but they are still cluttering up the books.

It's literally true, and both the most obviously intuitive answer, but also backed up by studies done over many decades AND by just observing crime rates across many countries over time. Anything not addressing this basic root cause is just a bandaid solution at best or a scam at worst.
>>
>>65610547
As an American taxpayer, I want every dollar taken from me to go to deportations of both legal and illegal immigrants. When everyone who is a permanent resident in the United States is someone whose ancestor fought in the War of Northern Aggression, then we can talk about inequality
