Do some American police departments get issued AKs?So I've heard that some police departments in America actually use AKs chambered in 7.62x39 instead of ARs, typically up in Alaska. If this is true, I was wondering how widespread this is and why use an AK instead of an AR? Is it to do mainly with wild animals, or something to do with the environment?
>>65609250No, they don't. The Alaska bit is from SWAT trials performed which did show favorably to AK rifles but was never adopted.>HK slap snap
>>65609250Cross training has it's value. ButbInwould assume no self-respecting sheriff would use them as issued weapons. I doubt they could get the deep cuts and kickbacks they get from the AR suppliers.
>>65609250>Do some American police departments get issued AKs?No. However, a lot of departments do give stipends to officers to get weapons that follow a very limited rule set. If it's centerline, has 30 round mags avaliable, and is optics ready then it's probably OK to get. I don't know an officer that has an AK, but I do know one that has a Tavor and another that has a mini-14 in the back of his patrol car.
>>65609250Some, very rarely do.> I was wondering how widespread this isIt's absolutely not. It's very rare.>and why use an AK instead of an AR?For shits and giggles, or superior performance in severe freezing temperatures like pic related. You can kick an AK's chamber open if it's frozen shut, but with an AR pattern rifle you have to try to mortar it, which is less than optimal. Also superior performance post-penetration. French GIGN specifically went for a 7.62x39 rifle, because the commonly available, cheap rounds are better than other alternatives once they've actually penetrated something like body armor. The M43 7.62x39 for example will icepick through an unarmored human, but throw it through a plate or soft body armor and it will yaw and tumble where you need it to.
>>65609250Yeah
>>65609333Late 90's early 00's grab bag of tactical/LE weapons was so cool
>>65609250Cold weather performance and 7.62x39 has better barrier penetration and penetration on larger organics than 5.56 generally speaking. Rural police departments/law enforcement doe sometime have to put down sick or injured animals like moose that have been hit by vehicles and sick bears and cougars which might be more inclined to seek easy food sources like small children
>>65609333checked, what does the receiver side marking say?
>>65609250>Do some American police departments get issued AKs?No. Some officers bought a patrol rifle with either their own money or with a stipend, but officially no department issues it.>I was wondering how widespread this isPretty much only Alaska.>why use an AK instead of an AR?According to Russia, they still cycle at -50 °C (-58 °F), the guns were built to function even in Siberia. The Alaskans verified that they work great at 40 °C.>>65609325>French GIGN specifically went for a 7.62x39 rifleOh hey, it's this lie again. They bought approximately 70 Bren 2 rifles to suppress them in 2017. Everyone claiming that it was adopted for the entire force for its "increased stopping power against people with armor" just asked AI and believed the bullshit.
>>65609389>The Alaskans verified that they work great at 40 °C.I meant -40 °C. LOL
>>65609389>just asked AI and believed the bullshitAI wasn't publicly available back then, you dumb gen-A nigger. They factually bought them because of superior performance post-penetration in their own tests.
>>65609250Only whackos use AKsThis is AMERICA, get an AR or shut up
>>65609415ok, they bought 70 and don't even use them lol
>>65609415>AI wasn't publicly available back then, you dumb gen-A nigger.Hello, retard. The morons spreading misinformation asked AI now. (PICREL) Wow, your very own article proves me right. Tell me, would you arm 400+ GIGN with only 68 rifles? Do the other 330+ guys go to emergencies unarmed until it's their turn to hold the rifle?>Eat shit.Dumb retard posted that shit without reading, and now he's acting smug.
>>65609423They bought them, as the text quoted from the article states, specifically to deal with individuals wearing body armor, because 7.62x39 M43, as an overly stable round only truly starts tumbling after it's penetrated something that's too much to be effective for the average human body, but is adequate after penetrating body armor. This is well known and recognized everywhere, from actual wars where getting shot by the round might just leave a clean hole through your body, e.g. Afghanistan or Iraq, to ballistic gel tests, where the effect of the round is blatantly apparent.M43 icepicks through flesh, but post-penetration effects after body armor or barriers are very much significant. This, combined with the ludicrous availability of the round, it being possibly the single most manufactured round available, leads to it being the single cheapest most effective round for the purpose that GIGN wanted it for.
>>65609448>7.62x39 M43>is adequate after penetrating body armor.Anon, the only thing M43 is passing through is a NIJ level IIIA armor that wasn't rated to stop rifle rounds anyway. Once anyone moves up to level III, your round isn't doing anything to it.
>>65609438>Wow, your very own article proves me right.Do you see the word>INITIAL right there?Do you know what INITIAL means? Can you answer this question?>Tell me, would you arm 400+ GIGN with only 68 rifles?I would arm the assaulters or pointmen in the units they send to deal with terrorists wearing body armor with 68 rifles just fine. Out of 400 combatants in the entire GIGN, 68 rifles is just fine for the purpose. GIGN are not first responders. They have time to select who they send and where depending on the situation. Regardless, the initial purchases are just that, initial. >Do the other 330+ guys go to emergencies unarmed until it's their turn to hold the rifle? You're talking about GIGN as if they were beat cops. They're military police special forces. They have a wide variety of equipment and the ability to actually pick and choose who uses what. >Dumb retard posted that shit without reading, and now he's acting smug. You're arguing against me while ignoring the word "initial" as if it wasn't there. You're arguing without even having a central point. GIGN DID choose the 7.62x39 Brens to deal with terrorists wearing body armor. This is confirmed. This is fact. You just wanted to be a faggot and try to argue it's a lie based on people reading AI, when it was published already when they got the damn rifles in the first place.>>65609478And that's not what they're concerned with. The 7.62x39 Bren was bought to deal with terrorists, not foreign special forces.
>>65609492>Do you know what INITIAL means? Can you answer this question?I do know what "initial" means. Now, go ahead and find an article saying they bought more (they haven't, but feel free to prove me wrong). There were plenty of HK 416s in their defense expo in 2022; hell, I even saw some G36s there, and that gun was supposed to be phased out by the HK 416.>Out of 400 combatants in the entire GIGN, 68 rifles is just fine for the purpose.Giga-cope, your delusions are unreal. "Yeah, the 5.56 guns aren't cutting it for armor, so let's arm less than 25% of our troops with something that apparently is better and leave 75% of them to keep using what doesn't work.">You're talking about GIGN as if they were beat cops. They're military police special forces.Anon, if your dumb article claims the HK 416 was going to be phased out and they are still in use today (because the GIGN didn't buy more Bren 2), then maybe the HK 416 wasn't phased out. Thinking isn't your strong point, is it? >And that's not what they're concerned with. You're the one who brought up the point about armor, and now you're backtracking? How much more pathetic could you get?
Our police would look like thirdies or noggers if they used AKs, here in shartland we have standards
>>65609415>>65609492No Western military or law enforcement agency would willingly choose a firearm chambered in a cartridge that originated in the SOVIET UNIONThe whole reason a cartridge like .300 Blackout exists is so people don't have to use a COMMIE round
>>65609525>I do know what "initial" means. Then why would you use it as your core argument, when the article says right there that they were the initial purchases.>There were plenty of HK 416s in their defense expo in 2022; hell, I even saw some G36s there, and that gun was supposed to be phased out by the HK 416.What argument are you trying to form here? Tell me. You seem to be confused. It's as if you're arguing about the GIGN replacing their rifles or something.>Giga-cope, your delusions are unreal. "Yeah, the 5.56 guns aren't cutting it for armor, so let's arm less than 25% of our troops with something that apparently is better and leave 75% of them to keep using what doesn't work."Again, you seriously don't understand what GIGN is. They are not beat cops. They are military police special forces. They can and do arm individual combatants according to their role specifically with no necessity for conformity. MP5Sds, Brens, HK416s, Benelli M4s, etc. all visible in a single squad's lineup. Every individual is individually armed with whatever weapon is seen as best for their role. It's like you're arguing about the French GIGN replacing all their weapons with the Bren, when that was never the argument put forth.>Anon, if your dumb article claims the HK 416 was going to be phased out and they are still in use today (because the GIGN didn't buy more Bren 2), then maybe the HK 416 wasn't phased out. Thinking isn't your strong point, is it? I never made that argument. What the fuck are you doing?>You're the one who brought up the point about armor, and now you're backtracking? How much more pathetic could you get?French GIGN went for a 7.62x39 rifle because they were concerned about post-penetration performance after penetrating body armor. This is fact. That's all there is to it. Whatever threat model they had showed the 7.62x39 being the best available choice for them to deal with it.
>>65609543>Then why would you use it as your core argument, when the article says right there that they were the initial purchases. They haven't bought more. As evidenced by the fact that it's been 9 years and you couldn't find another article. >>65609543>What argument are you trying to form here? Tell me. You seem to be confused. It's as if you're arguing about the GIGN replacing their rifles or something.I'm not forming an argument, you retarded ESL. You made the claim that they went with 7.62x39mm and are now trying to (pathetically) act like them using 5.56 is irrelevant.>Again, you seriously don't understand what GIGN is. They are not beat cops. They are military police special forces. They can and do arm individual combatants according to their role specifically with no necessity for conformity. MP5Sds, Brens, HK416s, Benelli M4s, etc. all visible in a single squad's lineup.Yes sir, if they encounter a situation where the enemy has armor, they'll give 1 guy a Bren 2 and the rest get MP5s. This is logically the best solution (not). LOL>French GIGN went for a 7.62x39 rifle because they were concerned about post-penetration performance after penetrating body armor. They went so hard that you were incapable of finding an article stating they had bought any more in 9 whole years. Hmmm, interesting.
>>65609567I see what's happened here alright. You didn't know how GIGN operates, so when I said they went for the 7.62x39 Bren, you thought that mean they were replacing their "service rifle" with the Bren, when they don't actually have such a thing. It's blatantly obvious from the arguments you used:>Tell me, would you arm 400+ GIGN with only 68 rifles? Do the other 330+ guys go to emergencies unarmed until it's their turn to hold the rifle?>Yeah, the 5.56 guns aren't cutting it for armor, so let's arm less than 25% of our troops with something that apparently is better and leave 75% of them to keep using what doesn't workIt's again, blatantly obvious, that you simply did not understand how GIGN operates and formed a fallacious understanding of the argumentation being put forth because of it.So there's no reason to continue this argument. You were wrong. Take the L, or whatever it is that you kids say these days.
>>65609572LOL, so you couldn't find the article and decided to throw away the board like an angry child who lost.>You were wrong. Take the L, or whatever it is that you kids say these days.Nice projection.
>>65609325>no we’re not larpers we just really needed something more rugged for the weapon we leave inside our heated vehicles 99.9% of the time and never sees dirt.
>>65609325>The M43 7.62x39>throw it through a plateLOL, LMAO. M43 isn't doing shit to a ballistic plate.
>>65609325NSBPD issues Sig MCXs. They may have allowed AKs in the past, or even issued them, but no longer, and not since at least 2019.
>>656093257.62×39 is dogshit against armor compared to 5.56 lmao. In non-ap/semi AP steelcore and actual AP alike.
