2026... I'm forgotten
it was never remembered in the first place
This is precisely what happens when nu style gun owners demand a world where the only available calibers are>5.56>7.62>9x19New and potentially interesting things get quickly obscured.
>>65610117Diminishing returns and “good enough” work together like soap and water. The niches are adequately filled.
>>656099497mm backcunny
>>65610117Sorry to hear that. I'm guessing you were an early adopter of this, right?
>>656099497mm cartridges are in this weird spot where precision shooters love these cartridges, but anyone not into precision shooting has no reason to ever care about it.
>>656102317mm Mauser was a popular military cartridge back in its day, but outside of that 7mm never really seemed to catch onThen again, outside of 9mm, Americans hate any cartridge that wasn't made by them
>>65610117No one does this, people just hate spending money and NPC calibers are expensive enough before we get into hipster shit. If you enjoy shooting you are inherently averse to expensive wildcat bs, it's hard enough when a trip to the range costs $50 let alone $150.
>>65610244I like every cartridge ever made and I'm American...
>>65610117sorry i missed the point in history when your average joe was buying obscure calibers left and right which led to this diverse boom of ammunition choice that you're alluding to
>>65610231I don’t care what anyone says I have been a long time 7mm Rem Mag enjoyer and 7mm BC was an objective improvement over it in every way but recoil. Rem Mag Chads should be switching over to it. The issue is the recoil though. Most hunters even out west consider a shot past 450 to be about the limit of what an ethical shot will be based on flight time. The Back Country addresses that by arriving at a target 500 yards away almost a quarter of a second faster. That means less wind drift and less chance of a deer or elk moving and botching the shot. The cost is an admittedly gnarly kick in the shoulder. Most buyers will choose comfort over performance Im afraid.
>>65609949Forgotten? It literally isn’t even on shelves yet. Plus peak 6.5 creed will kill it though imo.
>>65610270Yes you did miss it because you're only like 20 years old
>>65609949>barrel life measured in dozens of roundsan answer to a question that no one asked
>>65609955>the whole Lazzaroni lineYeah.
>>65610244>7mm MauserIt became the .257 Roberts an almost perfect sweetspot, and still not good enough.
>>65610914I remember lol
>7mm Backcountry>1.23mm Smalltown>4.20mm Redstate>4.6mm MAGA
>>65610244Well you don't see a ton of Europeans stan-ing for American cartridges either
>>65610922I mean, he tried nd did not fail. But ...yawn.
>>65610117post the calibers you own rn
>>65610117>>65610868>>65610270The civilian market has always overwhelmingly been whatever cartridges were being mass produced for military use and .22's. No, there was never ever a time where .472x34 or .42069mm or whatever fuckass hipster cartridge your autistic special interest is focused on was popular.
>>65610934Nta: .17hmr, .22lr, .22wrm, .32acp, 9x18, 9x19, .38/.357, .44RemMag, .219B, .22CM, .223, .308Win, .30-06, .35Rem, .358Win, .375Win, .45/70, 9.3x62, 20ga, 12ga, 10ga ...I think that's everybody, lol.
>>65610948>there was never ever a time where .472x34 or .42069mm or whatever fuckass hipster cartridge your autistic special interest is focused on was popular.9.3x62 is well over 100yo and was never a military cartridge, your lack of awareness does not mean it wasn't popular.
>>65610955>Ntathen why would you reply? im specifically asking HIM because he made the statement. fucking idiot.
>>65610966>literally who: the cartridge
>>65610971B U T T H U R T

>>65610973>literally ignorant of safaris and colonization
>>65611000thank you
>>65610971Jelly? Lol.
>>65610966Oh you're a euro Go away, gun owners are talking
>>65611045Dipshit.
>>65610934Let's see, 7.62 NATO, Kalash, and tokarev, 38 super and special, 357 mag, 25 ACP, 12ga, 9x19, 5.56, and 22lr. Also 44 caliber round ball if you want to count that. Then again I've been significantly thinning out my collection, at one point or another I've had 44 mag and special, 45 ACP and Long Colt, 40 swishers and welfare, 10mm, 7x57, 8x57, 7.65 Argentine, 303 brit, 6.5 Arisaka, and 300 win mag
>>65610270Yeah because you panic bought your first gun during the scamdemic.
>>65609949Wildcats using unobtanium cases and proprietary propellants will never take off because reloaders are the only ones who care about them.
>>65611052Your ownership of an obscure cartridge still doesn't prove that thesis correct, please try to use your brain for five seconds. The claim is that modern civilian preference for common cartridges is what's hampering development and adoption of newer ones. Prove that gun owners in the past had a wider variety of cartridges available to them on the basis that the average civilian shooter had less of a preference for common cartridges back then.
>>65610244>but outside of that 7mm never really seemed to catch onAnon, are you forgetting .270 Winchester?
>>65611689Do your own homework. I owe you nothing.
>>65611977Why? You made the claim, the onus of proof is on you. This is just a tacit concession that you can't

>>65610934>>65612049Oh fuck, forgot 25acp and marlin 444
>>65611689The 80s-early 90s was the sweet spot for cartridge choice as the obsolete stuff from pre-WW2 hadn't fully shifted to collectable status yet but you still had the post-WW2 developments kicking around the market even if they never really took off, alongside the more recent shifts in handguns and modern sporting rifles. Then the AWB and Saturday Night Special laws gimped selection as the oldest viable firearms started exiting circulation and market forces revealed which calibers didn't have a commercial future.

Love shooting my 1912 rifle and 1935 Chilean carbine. It's close, but 7mm is second only to 6.5 swede for mausers
>>65612214>posting the history of one cartridge proves that postyeah you are nigger tier retarded. just stop, you're embarrassing yourself.
>>65612223All Chilean Mausers are great, in fact all the south American nations ordered top of the line firearms back in the day, no expense spared. They weren't manufactured under the duress of a mayor conflict so they got the best workmanship and finishing. The 1935 Chilean police Mauser is like a top of the line, prewar K98k
>>65612223I LOVE shooting my 1909 cavalry carbine in 7.65x53, firm but not punishing

>>65611707>>65612284let me be more specificaside from 7x57, 7mm cartridges have not seemed to catch on with either military or law enforcementgranted, the .270 and to a lesser extent the 7mm-08 have been successful hunting rounds, but only for hunting; and most gun owners today don't hunt
>>65611021> boohoo the Europeans did to us what we did to our neighboring tribes but they did it better, boohoo! >>65611689This dude's basically right. Yes, there were eras where people went hog-wild making random bullshit wildcats, but they were never popular enough for widespread civilian purchase and usage for them to have staying power, with *maybe* a handful of exceptions over 200 years. >>65612056Basically yes. All these extremely cheap firearms flooding the market and people went hog-wild with testing. Now, it's a hell of a lot more expensive to fuck around with a new cartridge even counting CNC machines (and discounting the up-front cost). The drop of the AWB and similar laws make it easier to buy, convert, and test new calibers because suddenly not only was the market flooded with ARs (proverbially) but people started sharing their data as well as standardizing testing procedures.
>>65612333>more specific"The problem" with the 7mm, at laest prior to 1995 was always the bullets. They were used in 7-30 Waters all the way up to 7mmRemMag and were often the same construction across the range. Not enough expansion or fragmentation. In .30 cal the .30-30 FPs, 110gns dedicted to .30Carb and the 150s to the .30-06 very standard stuff. The projectile manufacturers like Berger, Swift and Barnes found thier niches and the corps followed.
>>65612350>pedantic knife fag leaves containment general>more to follow...
>>65612354It's funny you think I'm some newfag who only started posting to /k/ recently. But please, rather than shitting in your hands and flinging it like the screeching monkey everyone thinks you are, maybe make an actual argument and defend it like a civilized human being in a first world country?
>>65610117>New and potentially interesting things get quickly obscured. There's nothing new or interesting about 7mm Backcountry or 6.8 WESTERN or any of these other new meme hunting rounds. These cartridges exist so Federal and Hornady etc can get people to buy new rifles and cash in on the the long range hunting craze and the glut of new hunters ruining public land out west because of Texans and Californians colonizing the Rockies. Actually innovative and interesting cartridges, that fill a niche that wasn't already occupied, or simply do it better, DO take off. 300 blackout, 6.5 sneedmoar and 300 legend are all recent cartridges that have been big hits for this reason.
>>65612359It's funny you think I think about you at all.
>>65610621>Most hunters even out west consider a shot past 450 to be about the limit of what an ethical shot will be based on flight time. The Back Country addresses that by arriving at a target 500 yards away almost a quarter of a second faster.FFS just kill it with a drone at that point, how is shooting an animal the next county over that you never even get close to an enjoyable hunt?
>>65612369Cared enough to respond to me but not actually argue the point. Sounds like you're deflecting because you don't have an actual argument besides "nuh uh!" Stay mad/ >>65612361One could also argue Swift if you squint. I'd say 6mm ARC / PRC are too niche to consider them "popular" but that shit's too annoying for my blood.
>>65612353I don't understand, why would 7mm bullets get less expansion and fragmentation compared to .308 bullets? Wouldn't the smaller diameter bullet have an easier time expanding or fragmenting?
>>65612477There's a lot to bullet construction, anon. Jacket thickness ect. It's not a one size fits all thing.Someone smarter than I am on this will soon chime in to elaborate further

>>65612376It's been a thing for a long time. Back when I first got into shooting, "beanfield rifles" were the big hunting trend. Basically imagine a bolt action varmint rifle with a heavy barrel, wide forearm, high magnification scope, etc. except it's chambered in some kind of flat shooting 7mm or .30 cal magnum round instead of .22-250 or whatever. Guys would plop their fat asses in a tree stand on the edge of a bean field (hence the name) and shoot durr at several hundred yards. The guy who started the trend was named Kenny Jarrett and he bragged about taking deer at like 1,000 yards or something like that. Oh yeah, that was the other thing. Retards would pay exorbitant prices for a gin-u-wine Bean Field Rifle built by this guy when you could get a nearly identical precision rifle built by any number of well regarded gunsmiths for a fraction of the price. I believe a fully kitted out one was well over $10,000 in the late 90s-early 2000s.
>>65612376>dronenigger utterly astounded at the idea of enjoying shooting.
