>recently bent my Mark 4 receiver beating the rear sight off
>decide to see if I can find a gun smith to try and save it since I wanted this specific upper and they're stupid expansive now
>have 2 different gun smiths tell me this upper was toast and there's no way it would ever run right after bending it back since the tolerances are so tight on these pistols
>fuck it, I'll do it myself
>grab 2 pieces of soft pine and a rubber mallet
>put my upper in a vice
>strip the bolt down so I don't damage any springs or the firing pin
>tap the bolt in as far as I can
>start beating the shit out of it the opposite way I bent it
>bolt starts sliding a little easier
>keep it up for the better part of an hour untill the bolt slides freely
>for some reason the bolt dosen't look like it going completely into battery, about a 32nd of a inch off
>use a feeler gauge and the lipstick test and confirm full bolt face contact with the breach
>extractor works, feeds just fine
>take it out to the woods, don't want to get kicked out of the range
>functions flawlessly
>put 200 rounds and some change though it, can't find anything wrong with it.
>>
So it ended up working out after all

i saw that thread a while back, i'm glad you got to fix it
i figured it was fixable, just needed some careful care

you can now say you're a gunsmith, congrats
>>
>>65611576
Oh hey I remember your post! Nice dude.
>>
>>65611693
But that's not a MKIV.
>>
>>65611576
First off, nice job fixing it. Secondly, I totally understand a gunsmith turning this job down; this only had a chance of working. Assuming it didn't work, they'd still want to get paid for their labor/effort, and you wouldn't want to pay them if there weren't good results.

>>65612320
Yes it is, that the target model.
>>
>>65611576
What's a lipstick test?
>>
>>65612606
Lipstick is like a really soft crayon, it dosen't run but it sticks to everything. Really good for painting contact points because you can apply a thin, even coating to surfaces that leaves a highly visible mark on the surfaces it contacts.

Well done OP

Looks kind of like G1 Megatron

I have a less dramatic story but the CZ 97 barrel bushing is notoriously flimsy and of course mine broke right away. I don't live in the US so I couldn't just send it to CGW and CZ makes like 10 of them every year, so after a year of waiting for CZ to send me a mail about the parts being in stock I genuinely thought I was SOL.
Until I trawled half the internet to end up on some random tiny German gunsmith shop's webpage and they had custom in-house bushings, ordered one and it worked. I already sold the gun because it was a POS, but at least it now shoots for the new owner

father get garbage marlin 795 for appleseed
sends it out for aftermarket trigger work
likely spent more than the gun is worth
doesn't work
fuck with it it on and off for a year
finally realize they forgot a washer and the trigger and hammer can get out of line
fold up some aluminum can to hold em in place
works fine

he hasn't shot appleseed ore than twice

Not exactly the same thing, but over a decade ago I was shooting an IDPA match when I prematurely pushed my 1911 out as I was rounding a barrier and smacked the muzzle into it. This somehow depressed the recoil spring plug and dislodged the barrel bushing. I fired 2 or three shots before the bushing rotated all the way and the plug shot across the range. I think the RSO was just as surprised as I was because he didn't call "Stop" so I picked up a piece of .45 brass off the ground to use as a field-expedient plug, fixed my gun and finished the stage (only like 3 more targets).
Match director debated on whether to DQ me for continuing with an "unsafe gun" instead of parring out, but since the RSO never called STOP, it was the last stage of the match, and the ordeal destroyed my time on that stage anyway he decided to let it slide.

This makes me happy. Remember the guy in the last thread who lock tighted his shit together?

>alcoholic
>builds guns
>building Romanian akm
>at least 0.10 BAC entire build
>thing will not cycle
>one round feeds and speeds but will not eject
>assume rails are positioned wrong
>bend rails back and forth, center punch them to add thousandths to their height
>flair them up
>completely fucked the receiver
>decide to try again and buy another flat
>rebuild entire gun
>same issue
>start looking at barrel with beer goggles
>"Is this barrel bent?"
>decide to disassemble the bolt
>extractor spring is powdered rust
>ohhhh.jpg
>spend $4 on replacement
>runs flawlessly
I've built like 10 Aks this way. Biggest fuck up was when I accidentally set my lathe to cut the wrong way and cut an ENORMOUS chamfer on a Galil barrel I was turning. Will not change, will not learn from my mistakes. Lol. Lmao.

I love repairing old guns guns like enfirld 53s originals and sniders. Often this means a part replacement but since I want to keep the arms original I use original parts and try and ensure they have the same inspectors marks, millions of spare parts were made for this guns and they have good interchangeability, things like sears, tumbelers, hammers, firing pin spings and firing pins, barrel bands. I also like restoring and repaioring old flintlocks but that is very slow and time consuming I only het one done over about 2 or three years, this means tracking down wood that was from the same region and the same age and the same grain or finding parks from the same gunsmith or cast. This gets me in touch with a wonderful and strange world of similar people. I have used gunsmiths in p;aces like London with worldwide reputations and agreed to pay and my experience was frankly bad (wrong model stock replaced, parts taken from bad Indian reproductions) so I just don't trust them. It is extremely rewarding to get a 170 year old gun back in fully functkional conition using orifinal parts as you are not just experiencing what the person issued the weapon did ho;lding it but you are connecting with the workers, casters, fitters, stockmakers and gunsmits that made it and the 'wierd' bit is that the gun is thankful and a bit like a resue dog taht will be very loayal and devoted to it's rescuer an old gun that you repaired and saved will smile every time you walk into pick it up and make an extra effort to be on target and help you make the shot. I do extremely slowlt when working on antiques no wire wolls no chemicals, just linen, hot water, what are called parafin and shite spirits. I use medical rubbing parafin and unscented white spirits, the only heat is not with blowtorches, only steam and boiling water poured on linen. It's lovely you fixed your gun, now it will be your friend forever.

I'm sorry but I spat out my drink
>>
>>65614404
I know I saw it too and grinned, white spirits of course glad you got a laugh
>>
>>65611576
I'm the one that told you to do that, sort of. If I recall correctly, I told you to start gentle and work your way up, not to beat on it like a rented mule, but fuck it, you got away with it. The next time that you're considering beating the fuck out of a firearm, remember how you bent that upper and take a moment to reconsider. It doesn't always work out that well.
>once beat the fuck out of a m2 that had been run over by a 5 ton forklift to try to get it running again
>had to take a fucking 5 lb. sledge to it to move metal
>got it running again, mostly
>>
>>65614397
Anon when your gun starts smiling and talking to you, DONT LISTEN TO IT
