Just bought this, what should I expect? I wanted something with nice wood and open sights. I already have a Bergara B14R as my accurate 22lr rifle.
>>65613454>what should I expect?Fun .22 shooting times?
>buy thing>research after
>>65613454A lethal BB gun just like every other .22lr.
>>65613454>what should I expect? I wanted something with nice woodlewer you expectations and expect that nice wood to break at some point. hopefully while its still underwarranty and you can get a free replacement and not 10 years later when the guns been discontinued and your fucked.
>>65613454Get a suppressor for it with no first round pop and enjoy the quietest gun out there. Then get a scope.
>>65613472>Get a suppressor for it with no first round popis that a thing? or are you talking about wipes?
>>65613475It's a thing.
>>65613454Easily my favorite .22 rifle out there, and I've had plenty. I have a "military trainer" 452 (basically the same as the premium but with a more basic beechwood stock) and a 455 american in .17hmr. both are fantastic
>>65613468i'm not using it as baseball bat. I'll barely take it hunting, maybe once in a while shooting bunnies after walking half a mile from the car.
457s are sweet. Plenty accurate and they have fully adjustable triggers from the factory. I got a 22" royal and had it cut down to 16" so I could rethread it for 1/2x28 (2nd from right, this is the most recent pic I have with it). I brought the trigger down to about a lb and I can hit anything out to 100 yds on the first round, even shooting subs. It's easily mine and my kid's favorite .22. We will set up empty brass on a 2x4 at about 30 yds and they will plink all day.
>>65613454>what should I expect? The feeling of superiority that comes with owning a bolt-action rifle with iron sights.
>>65613460They are calling him the "median consumer"
>>65613454>For those who knowk-know what???
>>65615587If you have to ask...
>>65615619
>>65613472Thinken of getting a nice Leupold with glossy finish for it. Don't need that many zoomies, this is a plinking gun
>>65615737I really wish more classic style scopes were made. My .22 has an old Japanese Tasco on it
>>65613745I hate how gay and retarded the prices for pump action .22s and single shot .22s are
>>65615737.22 max range is like 125 yards. 4-12x is plenty for that.
>>65615824I can hit steel at 350m with my Bergara B14R with good ammo (Norma Tac-22, Eley ULR). After you account for drop and have good marksmanship fundamentals, the biggest issue is wind.
>>65615838Yeah I've hit out to 250 but I must have been aiming 10 feet high.
>>65613454>what should I expect?Fun
>>65615813Bolt action .22s can still be had for cheap if you can do some basic refurbishing. A lot of pawn shops used to have barrels full of super cheap .22 rifles in shit condition, a few of mine were picked up in such state for about $50. As long as there isn't any really bad pitting a bit of boiling and rust bluing gives you a good plinker. You'd have to find a really shitty pump action to get it cheap tho, those are certainly hard to come by. And single shots tend to be a special/expensive thing unless its a single shot bolt action. >>65615824Sheeeiiiitttt I'll take my hi standard supermatic out to 100yds. 200 is ezpz with a rifle as long as the wind is consistent. However you're still correct, 12x is about all you need. A simple 3-9 works just fine. Part of the draw of rimfire is you don't need a super long range to have fun.

A simple 3-9 works just fine. Part of the draw of rimfire is you don't need a super long range to have fun.I love my Ruger Rimfire Precision. I've got a big 50mm 3-12x Vortex scope on it. It has a small little dot for the center reticle. Anywhere from 50-115ish yards the bullet will always go exactly where that dot is. It will not deviate. Loudest sound is the sound of the bullet hitting the target. So little recoil you can sometimes see the bullet in the air with the scope. It's always the gun I teach people to shoot with because it's so damn fun. I love .22 bolt action suppressed guns.
>>65616061>bolteww>>65616506>>65616061>>65615824>>65615874It depends on what you're doing. normal .22lr shit is like 125 yards, but shooting .22lr out to either 200 or 300 yards is similar to shooting an AR out to 600 yards or something. it really rainbows but some guys do it to practice long range shooting on a shorter range
>>65613475Little to no FRP exists. The Mask HD 22 has little to none.
>>65616506My 457 royal is quiet enough that you can hear the bullet spinning thru the air as it goes down range if you're shooting the big 45gr subs. Kind of a *click* zzzzzzzzzzzz *thud*. If the 60gr SSS were more available I'd want to shoot some of those to see how they sound. >>65616528Oh yeah, it's far from point shooting at those ranges. But it teaches you Kentucky windage, or you can even dial in dope if you wanna get autistic about it. It also teaches breathing and trigger control. At 50ish yds it's still fun to plink trash or leftover bits of clay after they've been broken. Also, kids and new shooters have a lot more fun when they actually hit shit instead of simply blasting into the dirt.
>>65615813New or used? Ironically Cabelas of all places has cheap used semi 22s, like $70 sometimes (K-Mart, Squires Bingham, etc). For single shots, there are so many relatively cheap new single shots it's insane. I just found a new one today, the Henry Mini Bolt. Complete with a flat, downturned, curved bolt handle which is an odd choice for a kid's 22 as that's a wildly uncommon option on any US hunting rifle these days. Of course, most of those cheap single shot 22s are kid's guns but I think you should be able to get some with stock extensions or a larger stock. They're often so tiny/short that they seem like a really handy option.
>>65616578I meant like remington rolling block style single shots. like old used .22lrs from 100ish years ago before they started making semi auto .22s. Those old gallery guns are all over priced with boomer tax
>>65616570Double check your silencer's concentricity to the bore with a concentricity rod if you're getting a zinging noise on heavy bullets. My front sight on my 10/22 was proud of the face behind the threads and I was getting that same noise with SSS when they were in production. They're not being produced until Aguila gets their new factory running. If your accuracy is fine with regular ammo, though, I doubt it's a concentricity issue and more a barrel hating heavy ammo issue. Pic is after fix; I swear I had a pre fix one though.
>>65616593Try finding a Stevens (?) Little Scout 14 1/2. Yes another kid's gun but it checks the box of rolling block 22, about 100 years old, before semi auto 22s. They're stupid tiny feeling despite like a 20" barrel. Sadly no modern equivalent. Stevens also made other weird shit like the Visible Loader before semi and bolt 22s took over. Oddly, Tippmann manufactures a modern version of this in 380 complete with a loading gate called the "pirate pistol". It was based off a 20 year old prototype that the founder of Tippmann made. Wild gun and threaded. Kinda want one, kinda want to SBR it.
>>65616593Also fits into cheap IIRC. Neat gun. Single screw takedown (barrel removal).
>>65616610the miserable loader
>>65616578That looks like a rebrand of the cricket .22, my first rifle and the reason i hated shooting until i was an adultIt would spit powder back in my face every shot
>>65616620The Visible Loader can be a good gun IF, and big if, it was taken care of. Both the Visible Loader and Little Scout have an OAL of 34". The Visible Loader also has the same 20" barrel length and a LOP (butt to trigger face) within a quarter inch of each other. The Visible Loader also has a shorter receiver in the front (excluding tang). And that's a pump repeater VS a single shot. Make that shit make sense! I wish the designer would've been interviewed. What a wild fucking contraption it is. It looks like someone cobbled a repeater out of a falling/rolling block receiver.>>65616627Everyone has one of these damn things now, it's insane. Keystone makes the Crickett, Savage makes the Rascal, Henry makes the Mini Bolt, the list goes on. I get the appeal but surely they're not making much on $150 22s people buy for their kids before upgrading to a normal 22 later on. Crickett and Savage have a small cult following in the ultralight/bugout/survival autists especially with their pistol versions (Crickett) and trappers (Rascal, Crickett) because some of our state Fish And Game are so gay we can only use manual action pistols for hunting or dispatch of game. But semi 22 rifles are fine. Actually, 8 shot 357 revolvers are fine too. So is my AR. So is a theoretical RPK with a drum mag and bayonet. But god forbid you dispatch game from 20ft with a silenced Ruger MK II instead of a 22 revolver that makes your ears bleed. Contenders weren't even in production for like 10+ years, either. New manual non-revolver 22 pistols almost don't exist except "pistol" bolt actions.
Also for some reason I see a strange amount of trappers use specifically this bright pink model of Rascal for dispatch. Maybe it's down to weird sample size/outliers but it's kinda funny.
>>65616610also, thanks>>65616689I heard that like none of them work
>>65616697Maybe they want it to be hi-viz?
>>65616578>flat, downturned, curved bolt handleI love those
>>65616725YW. Also yeah mine is fucked because someone didn't just leave the last case in it and dry fired it. The gun physically cannot eject the last case as it uses the next round to pop it up and out. There is zero reason to dry fire a Visible Loader without an empty case in place due to that fact. I need a chamber ironing if not a very careful weld popped over the firing pin dimple and some cleanup done. I also missed out on the spare cross taper pins someone had a batch made of and I'm regretting that as it seems that part does a lot to take out slop in the rifle when that pin is new. All in all, a really neat rifle. Unfortunately most are pretty clapped out, and parts availability? What parts? Where parts? Used parts maybe?Oh also youtube seems to have taken down the one video I could use for taking it apart and the rifle requires some absolutely strange ritual to disassemble it. Remove this screw, punch out the cross taper pin, unscrew the magazine tube, pull it out and slide the ring holding it out of the barrel's dovetail, put the interacting parts near the forene in the right condition by putting the pump forend in the right spot, remove the pump with screws and slide it forward, those parts come off the gun, and at some point in this mess, the barrel comes off and the pump assembly and bolt slide out the front of the gun. Yes the magazine tube is connected directly to the bolt IIRC and may even move when pumping. Seriously wild gun design. If I had instructions I wouldn't be so confused but it's like 100 years old.
>>65616959I assume that, it may go on clearance, or it was a grandkid's or something that was outgrown (or is being borrowed lol). Tiny and handy though.>>65616961Weirdly not the only kid's 22 to feature that bolt handle style despite the rarity of such a design. Daisy's 2201 has it too. Cheap gun, single shot, but very cool. Barrel attaches with a "spanner" (hook wrench) nut. Plastic stocked version has a built-in adjustable butt to adjust LOP like a high end rifle. Receiver is literally the same material as their air rifles, some kind of zinc alloy. And on top of it all, some of the best faux wood I've ever seen with pretty impressive color swirling. Oh yeah and a skinny little barrel injection molded to fake an octagonal profile. The semi auto version takes mags and has a plunger rather than a bolt handle like the old Winchester plunger gun. So many odd choices.
>>65616965>Oh also youtube seems to have taken down the one video I could use for taking it apart and the rifle requires some absolutely strange ritual to disassemble it.Ron had to fucking censor tightening the action screws on his rifle like a japanese porno due to jewtube rules. Like literally all he did was take a torque screw driver to the exposed action screws to check to see if they were at the correct torque
>>65613745>older sa22exquisite tastes my friend, a newer one was my first gun and a great uncle at one point gave me his until he wanted it back for a grandson that never came
