Why don't they develop rifles which have a microphone on the barrel and a small digital screen indicating the direction of incoming shots? In a lot of Ukraine war footage, the guys are in forestry shooting blindly towards incoming fire. Surely it would be quite simple for a microphone, or even two small microphones at either side of the barrel, to detect where the enemy is shooting from so that soldier can aim there?
>>65613488>Put a microphone right next to the loudest part of the gunYeah, and they should put a mic in the engine bay of all cars to help listen for and indicate anyone who may be in the driver's blind spots
>>65613494?The car would be running which makes it difficult to parse other sounds, but if the gun isn't being fired what's the issue?
>>65613488>Surely it would be quite simple for a microphone, or even two small microphones at either side of the barrel, to detect where the enemy is shooting from so that soldier can aim there? If that sort of thing was really easy, it would have been done ages ago.Sounds bounce a whole lot (good luck reversing that) and it's rarely just one dude firing at you. People have tried all sorts of weird shit to get hard to spot enemy's location. Let's just say sound isn't one of those which actually work.
>>65613522I guess so, but it's weird to see a group of guys in a forest shooting blindly in all directions. If one of them could pull out a little digital map and see red dots which are larger or smaller depending on estimated range it would make more sense in my uneducated opinion.
>>65613488Gunshot locators aren't new. Every MRAP in GWOT had one (that post with the spikey thing on top is a boomerang mic), several countries played around with backpack ones at one point and even the Ukrainians have their own one, the 2021 trade show pics of the malyuk has one above the barrel. Problem is, they're fine for locating single snipers but when shit kicks off they get overloaded and become ineffective. The way they work is by using the sound of both muzzle report and the supersonic crack to gauge a bearing of its origin, so when you've got a lot of muzzle blasts and a lot of cracks coming from different places its easy to get false positives. Also presumably less effective with widespread suppressor use like you see in Ukraine, but idk for certain about that.
>>65613488I'm guessing using that indoors would be a mess to filter out interferences properly. At most you would be able to get a general direction indicator, which for CQB cenarios probably wouldn't get you noticeable results vs. just using your ear.
>>65613488>Surely it would be quite simpleSo do it Einstein.
Probably more feasible to have sound as an additional layer of information picked up by a drone swarm, analysed by AI, then combined into some freaky digital night vision/thermal/satellite view/WIFI radar/sound wave/local drone camera view godmode-tier ESP hax. At that point, anything that isnt peer to peer would be easier than playing video games on journalist mode.
>>65613488Real game changer would be AR glasses attached to the helmet that has a shared enemy ping system From the Ally Drones and Other soldiers. Kinda like a binoculars work in the far cry games. pretty sure anduril is already making something like that.
>>65615123Yeah anduril took over IVAS from microsoft.Luckey is a weird guy, making autonomous fighter aircraft one day and gameboy clones the next.https://goyimx.com/austinnasso/status/2077089676150915400
>"It would be quite simple"The firearm industry is a hungry one, brother. Patent your brilliant idea and start shopping for investors.
I can never tell if these threads are some weird form of bait or if op really is that much of a faggot
Acoustic detection was kino
I would pick a lidar I am sure you can tweak them to track a bullet
