They need to make a 1mm bullet that leaves a 1" pocket pistol at 5,000 fps.

Enjoy your bullets that cost like $20 per round.

What's the propellant?

Not even a TIG welding rod costs that and they are far longer than you could ever use in a pocket pistol.

5000 fps is like what…* 0.3 so 1700 m/s…
That's kinda Mach5 ish but also not impressive. Current tank rounds go that speed and a 1mm projectile will not carry that speed for long if not in vacuum.
If you think „i will go faster“. You know v^2 = energy.. Air resistance goes up squared, too.

This is not the eraser movie…

Good fucking luck out of a 1" rail.

It's common knowledge that gun designers often take inspiration from their penises.
John Browning looked at his and designed the big, heavy and effective BAR.
Eugene Stoner looked at his and decided that 20 inches is ideal.
The guy that came up with the Zip .22 looked at his, made a gun equally dysfunctional and realized why his wife is acting so distant.
OP looked at his and...

I think you could do it using some fancier propelant like cubane and using multiple charges that all nest inside the barrel to give as much acceleration as the barrel would allow.

AP rounds aren't legal on the civilian market, nor is making your own.

a 1 inch gun isnt going to be something you fire at more than 5 paces away.
>>
>>65616694
you're illiterate. barrel length is meaningless here. the fact stands that it's leaving the barrel at 5000 meters a second (which is the actual error, here. it should be feet per second)
>>
>>65617256
Your point being?
>>
>>65615863
I like the idea, but I also suspect the bullet/barrel would not survive the rapid acceleration, even if you had the technology to achieve it in such a short barrel.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light-gas_gun
When the hydrogen develops sufficient pressure to burst the scored section of the disk, the hydrogen flows through the hole and accelerates the projectile to a velocity of 6 km/s (22,000 km/h) in a distance of about a meter.

NASA also operates light-gas guns with launch tube sizes ranging from 0.170 inches (4.3 mm) to 1.5 in (38 mm) at Ames Research Center.
