Replaced my slide spring with a 24-pounder. Supposedly, this kills the spring guide so I have a spare in case that happens to be true.

why use a heavy spring for a long slide in 9mm? Is that too much resistance? Why not get a metal spring guide if the spring is to much for the plastic one?

I think nowadays it is. The Glock 19 has been dominant for so long that OTC 9mm cartridges are basically designed around it. I've seen the argument for the Glock 45 being a popular duty weapon is it's essentially a Glock 17 but due to the shorter length of the barrel it's better for cops who sit in a car or at a desk all day.

I still kind of want a Glock 49 since the smaller grip is better for CC and you don't really care about barrel length

The argument I’ve heard for the 45 over the 17 is draw speed. I don’t know any departments in my state using the 19 or 17. Everyone seems to be using the 45 with a light and night sights minimum.

The lockup is too weak with 17 pounds which I suspect was chosen by the factory because law enforcement uses ultrasoft loads like Gold Dot, Critical Duty, et c.

Not in my experience. I had already been using a 20-pounder that works fine with carry and range ammo but it's starting to feel like the original after a year of live and dry fire.

"Sticky" slide, unburnt powder spewing from the breech and horrific primer drag as you can see by the spent cartridges with which my Glock left the factory. The ones on the right don't look as bad but two thirds of the symptoms is enough for me to replace the spring.

The gx4 is actually pretty damn good especially for $200-225, but the tx22 being $399 is crazy. They are probably the best 22lr pistol out atm without spending over a grand but realistically its all demand from the FRT and chasis market. Speaking of chasis I would seriously reccomend the Titan Precision Works chasis. It's been phenomenal for me and is also one of the cheapest designs despite coming with a free FRT ect in the package. Really great customer service as well, I have been nothing but impressed with them.

I ordered 2 of Titan Precision Works extended mag kits when I got the chasis to try them out. Then UPS "lost" the package with the FRT and chasis and mag kits in it. I contacted them and they didn't just send me a new package with everything for free they also offered to include another mag kit. I offer to buy 2 more mag kits as a thank you for sending me a new chasis free of charge and covering the new shipping cost for me. Then about two months later the first chasis shows up with those mag kits in it. I guess UPS "found" the package

I'm fucking swimming in 30 round mag kits for the TX22 man.

Ruger is discontinuing a lot of their revolvers and is going to revamp many of them so if you're willing to wait they may soon make a better version on newer tooling with less QC hiccups. Of course its a dice roll, new ones may have MORE qc hiccups but it may be worth the risk to you.

If you just want the classic style the revolver guy I know says to get one made awhile ago because they used to make em better, so getting a older used one could actually not just save you money but also be a straight up upgrade in quality.

Tl;dr get a past or future blackhawk if you buy one
>>
>>65622941
If they bring any of the things back that they're discontinuing, it's going to be more expensive and crappier.

>>65622968
>You don't actually believe this do you
I am genuinely just an optimist man. Maybe the reason there has been so many issues with their revolvers is the machinery is too clapped out to maintain tolerances and while youre retooling anyways you may as well make improvements

Ruger revolvers were hands down yhe least problematic revolvers you could buy the last 5 years other than $4,000+ kortths and custom revolvers. S&W, Colt, taurus, rossi, charter arms, NAA, heritage, the cheap European revolvers, and kimber all have worse QC and generally shittier performing revolvers.
>>
>>65622979
It’s an N frame revolver.

>>
>>65622991
>Hard R frame when?
>>
>>65622986
There's a chance they may switch from cast to billet/forged parts, but unlikely.
Instead what they will do is randomly release small batches like their No.1s, and Jack up the price, so a $700 sp101 will be like $1000 new, but because if the limited availability assholes will buy them up fast and flip them on gunbroker for $1500+
>>
>>65622991
S&W has never made a revolver other than an x frame that can handle modern 45 colt.
Ruger where the only ones doing it.
>>
>>65623004
And how did that work out for them? Not so good I hear
>>
>>65623010
They had pretty much gotten rid of their 45 colt offerings anyways.
But 45 colt standard pressure is a 250gr bullet @~800fps, while proper revolvers can handle loads surpassing hot 44 mag.
Revolvers aren't a money maker anyways. S&W is floating on the M&P, and ruger is making its money from what they kept in production.
It wouldn't be surprising to see S&W cut a lot if not all their revolver production within 10 years, I assume their recent push of revolver models is basically from the same reason as ruger dropping theirs, bad sales and low interest in revolvers, but S&W is doubling down and falling for the sunk cost fallacy.
The difference is if you actually wanted a revolvers, the rugers were cheaper, stronger, better, and had far less QC issues than S&W.
But hey go spend $1200 on a ugly guns that can only handle low pressure 45 colt and 45 acp, with a 13lb DA and a 6lb SA trigger, with a high chance of timing issue and a complete lack of trigger reset ability, then you can spend a year and a half dealing with their infamously bad customer service to get the thing shooting. All for you to keep it in a safe 99.9% of the time.

My personal tinfoil hat theory is that the higher ups at Taurus only actually care about revolvers and also shit out cheap semis because they sell well.

you're bragging about a jewish guy shooting 4 teenagers armed with knives and screwdrivers versus the modern threat of multiple guns, sometimes rifles, sometimes machineguns and body armor.

>this is home defense!
in my area it was a thing to just follow people home from the grocery store and jump them while they're unloading groceries, gaining access to your home at the same time, your CCW is what you'd have on you.

Another thing was that I think with two stolen cars is to block the road in front and behind you and then rob you and steal your car. multiple guns and you're flanked.

4 kids in a subway car is nothing compared to our modern reality. There's a ton of instances with attackers >4, it's just that often most of them disperse after the shooting starts.

Yes. Beretta peaked in the mid to late 90s. Everything new they've made since then has been shitty, ugly, or both. They cheapened the 92s in the 2000s, ran QC into the ground in the 2010s, and won't stop trying to replace it in the 2020s with awful "updated for the modern audience" models. Great. You'll love it. You won't be able to pick up on the barely perceptible ways it isn't quite as good as a $3,500 competition pistol. It's a good first gun because it's accurate, reliable and holds a lot of bullets. You'll also have the opportunity to learn a double action/single action trigger, which I'm pretty sure a lot of people never do. It's kind of like a manual shift transmission. Strictly speaking, you don't need to learn it, but you'll be better for it.

Yeah, I didn't realize how much when I got my snubby, but to be honest, I got it for the Philip Marlow LARP. That being said, the idea for defensive ammo is controlled expansion and penetration. I have some .357 Magnum 125 gr Critical Defense for it (pic related), but I don't really carry it much, and never as my only gun. I still want to get a large frame 6" gun to develop some loads for shooting a bear on the other side of a moose at 300 yards.

It apparently doesn't test very well, but it's basically just Winchester Ranger T but with a more closed nose prioritizing more penetration and less expansion.

I don't know, the only test I watched (there are others I'm pretty sure) the guy only had 5 rounds to test since I believe it was stolen or apart of the reject batch that was sold off. The military has different needs than normal LEO, usually they're using FMJ ammunition so when their JHP over penetrating doesn't matter to them. I don't know why they have this ammo since the gayue convention bans expanding ammo. Pretty sure CONUS MPs aren't even issued this ammo.

What is the point in all that power if you want it to reliably stop within a human torso? Especially within the context of law enforcement. Remember, pretty much no hand gun calibers produce secondary wounding characteristics.

Don't get me wrong. I like a big fuckoff round that kicks like a mule just as much as the next guy, but that's just dicking around at the range or maybe for big game hunting.
Regardless, bullet construction is the most important part of terminal ballistics.

Same. It isn't like there is an endless amount of new posters ITT, so I generally try to be supportive of the newfags and guide them in the right direction. Even the guy who constantly LARPS as a new/potential gun owner. Maybe that's just the "unc" in me.
>>65625936
>.380 fmj confirmed best defensive round
I mean... I carry a .380 ACP an awful lot because it's convenient, I shoot it really well and I have a lot of confidence in its ability to "end the threat." My only concern is capacity because I get in these LARP mind games where I am set upon by a large group of determined attackers, even though the worst thing that's ever happened to me in 20+ years of carrying a gun is some sideways looks at the gas station. Maybe there's something to be said about the confidence carrying a gun give you in there somewhere.
>>
>>65625945
Fast bullets expanded better and actually stop faster in targets. Force is Mass * Velocity ^ 2, so higher velocity rounds are more “powerful” at an exponential rate.

Anecdotally, cops issued the Federal 115 gr +P+ JHP said it was one of the most lethal rounds they ever used. I think Georgia state patrol? For a while. Lighter projectiles don’t do well through barriers.

>Fast bullets expanded better and actually stop faster in targets.
That can lead to under penetration missing anatomical structures that might otherwise incapacitate a threat. Early 165 gr .40 S&W was known for that.
>Lighter projectiles don’t do well through barriers.
Very true. Velocoty is also hugly impotrant to barrier penetration, which is a big concern for law enforcement. It was a big selling point for .357 Magnum back in the 1930s. The original load was a 158 gr lead bullets moving at over 1,500 fps. That's smokin' for tin pot Ford Coupes in a time before wide spread penicillin.
>>
>>65625990
Get whatever you like, I'm not trying to discourage you, but if you are limited to 3 guns by law it might be a good idea to really think ot over and get the the guns you really want, even if it means saving up for a year or two. $30 a week is $1,560 in a year.
If I had to pick 3 guns and only 3 guns, I'd have a Glock 19 with a dot for basic gun duity (CCW, home defense), a nice AR or Arsenal AK in 5.56 (eat my balls, Ukraine war. 7.62x39 rulz #1) and... something old school. A bolt or lever rifle of a powerful revolver.

Shield 45
>>
>>65625885
>without passing through
>>65625945
>reliably stop within a human torso
Not only is this not particularly desirable, it's not really possible. A bullet that doesn't pass through a skinny methhead torso in a square, front-to-back shot is a bullet that fails to adequately penetrate in a great many other shots, including of course the infamous through-the-arm shot in the Miami shootout.
In the FBI's ensuing ammo testing that led to both the FBI's short-lived selection of 10mm (and indirectly, the use of .40 S&W afterwards, up till 2016), and more importantly the industry-wide change in JHP design for all calibers that continues to this day, there was no penalty for overpenetration.
In this testing, penetration beyond 18" is not considered bad in itself; it's only bad to the extent it reflects a missed opportunity to do more damage inside 18". And in the context of such a multi-test battery, a few >18" shots in one test may not really be a missed opportunity -- the change to "fix" that result may cause a worse issue in another test.

FBI LEB November 1986:
>It should be noted that no maximum penetration standard
>was established. This reflects the judgment that underpenetration of
>a handgun bullet presents a far greater risk to the law enforcement
>officer than overpenetration does to an innocent bystander. Consid-
>ering that approximately 80% of the rounds fired by law enforce-
>ment officers engaged in violent encounters do not strike the in-
>tended targets, it was deemed somewhat unrealistic to attach too
>much significance to the potential risks of overpenetration on the part
>of those that do. Nevertheless, in assessing the potential volume of
>wounds created by the test bullets, greater attention was given to the
>potential tissue displaced up to a depth of 18". For practical pur-
>poses, penetration beyond that range would most likely carry the
>bullet outside the body.

A woman was hit the other day by a stray round in a self defense shooting. I was reliably told that this never happens
>>
>>65626360
Who told you this never happens? 50% of the reason for the existence of hollow point ammo is to have the bullet stop in your target and not go through your target to the thing behind it. But also that's why you're supposed to be aware of your target and what's behind it, however that is not always an easy endeavor when your life is on the line.
>>
