The most common defense I've heard of that "drag queen storytime" stuff is by comparing them to clowns, and that's exactly why I dislike them- they treat femininity as a subject of ridicule rather than a genuine form of self-expression. The whole premise of "haw-haw, look how ridiculous things like makeup and heels are" is obviously sexist against women in the sense that its caricaturing things that are stereotypically associated with them, but its even more sexist against men who would otherwise be inclined towards engaging with such things in a more genuine and tasteful way, any attempt for them to do so would be conflated with drag performances by the general public. If you're being extremely charitable you could make the case that it gives such men an outlet for such things, but I feel like making it into something that needs an outlet in the first place rather than a form of genuine self-expression is even worse.
It's an old slang term from when trans women had an even more antagonistic relationship with cis people than they do today. It's grown away from it's roots and isn't intended to be disparaging. It's always used as a compliment and I like it because it's one of the only words that cis ppl haven't appropriated from us.
