i did a double major in pure mathematics and computer science at a t5 cs school, faang/quant internships all 3 summers, and competed icpc (did ok) and putnam (did well but this probably didnt help me)
took ro from my junior summer internship, hopped after around half a year, and corporate climbed. keep in mind that undergrad basically only gets your foot in the door, if you want to make bank you need to be willing to play the game (or go to a quant firm or frontier lab lol), which comes down to a lot of soft skills that ics tend to be bad at. i will be entirely honest as someone who is an academic at heart and very much a turboautist, i was much happier making less and getting to focus on interesting technical problems, but with llms looming on the horizon im just trying to secure my bag before everything collapses under us
also avoid amazon like the plague it isnt worth it. meta is also shit but at least youll make it past a year lol and the severance is a little nicer (or was this past round of layoffs)
