>>43776928Unironically, because of the history of the term transgender. The word used to mean someone with two distinct personas, a male and a female. ie, crossies and drag queens. Then in the 80s with the aids panic the CDC noticed there were a whole bunch of people who weren't "gay men" but were still acting as vectors for HIV. Since they didn't want to list all the different perverts and weirdos seperately they co-opted the term transgender as a catchall to mean "people who aren't technically gay men, but are vectors of HIV anyway". And thus was born the phrase "gay and transgender". HIV is a HUGE part of gay history of course, so the name stuck, and eventually morphed into LGBTQ. Transexuals until recently always identified as transexuals, not transgenders, but did include themselves under the transgender umbrella because HIV is scary (and apparently the only STD we're in a high risk category for, seriously, vaginas are gross). Fast forward to the 2010s and "trans rights" are in vogue. Cishet don't like using the term transexual because it has sex in it, so they used the term transgender because it felt more comfortable for them to say. Then in the great egg crackening of covid there was all of a sudden an army of fresh trannies who only knew about transexualism at all through cishet channels, and so they believed that the term transgender referred exclusively to transexual. And I think it's time that we actually stop doing that and identify as transexuals, NOT transgenders again. Transgender means drag queens and enbies and sissies and bulldykes and whatever else. Transexual means people who's neurological sex does not match their genetic sex.
